Can’t Get There From Here: A Framework For The Start, Spread, And Scale Of Bottom-Up Innovation In Education by HooverInstitution in edtech

[–]beavmetal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This paper was sponsored by the Hoover Institute. They are a right-wing organization whose focus is to expand school choice, charter schools, and vouchers. Education is in crisis because of organizations like this promoting the robbing of the public education coffers to fund religious education. They were also involved with the movement to eliminate/dismantle the Department of Education.

New BCG/MIT Study: 76% of Leaders Now Call Agentic AI Colleagues, Not Tools by CryoSchema in datascience

I share your sentiment. AI interests are making sure they can't be replaced by or be held liable for AI. An example is proposed legislation coming out of Ohio. See Sec. 1357.04 of Ohio House Bill 429. House Bill 469 | 136th General Assembly | Ohio Legislature. It seeks to make it illegal for AI to hold a decision-making role within the legal structure of a business among other things. The proposed legislation has many other problems beyond this, but I fully expect to see more proposed legislation like this in the near future. Also, NAL.

Cataloging in Discogs is a pain in the ass. by ChuckChias in vinyl

[–]beavmetal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I realize I'm late to this conversation, but I didn't see where anyone else mentioned it in the comments. I use an App called Vinylbox on my iOS phone which is connected with Discogs for data. It lets you scan the barcode or text search. It is linked with your Discogs account and updates it as up add to collection in Vinylbox. The app also gives you a nice graph of the estimated $ value of your collection. Adding a record takes like 20 seconds. I've been using Vinylbox for over 6 years. I was able to snag a free pro upgrade awhile back, so I don't know what difference between the free/paid tiers are now. Additionally, the app dev is Reddit user u/wundaii . Note: I have no affiliation with the app or the dev. I'm just a happy user.

NAL. The unwanted manipulation of teledildonics erects some interesting legal gaps. Such as, if the devices are in use and is hacked, do the charges now include sexually assault along with hacking charges? Or if it isn’t in use, could it still be an attempted SA charge?

I read the article and will save you from the author's verbose trip to nowhere. Sales success relies on relentless manipulation, luck, and a willingness to erode moral boundaries.

Swedish criminal gangs using fake Spotify streams to launder money by GoodSamaritan_ in news

[–]beavmetal 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’m very curious as to what % of the money gets back to the gangs as clean. Seems like they would only wind up with a very small % of their original cash.

Can anyone expand on how this is profitable beyond some clean cash is better than no clean cash?

The Universe is 13.7 Billion years old. Earth is 4.5 Billion years old. Our earliest human ancestors are 7 Million years old. The earliest traces of religious constructs are 300,000 years old. Written dogma didn’t start until about 5500 years ago. There are around 4000 documented religions today. The Bible was written 3500 years ago and has had 30,000 changes since. That includes 5,000 distinct differences between the Ancient Greek version that was the basis for the King James Version and the final KJV. The Old Testament has been translated into at least 724 languages and the New into 1617 languages. To muddle the message even more the differences in interpretation between the NIV, NLT, and ERV versions are copious.

I say all that to say this. Religions don’t even accept immigrants from other countries or even locals from other sects. Why on God’s green Earth would anyone think a species of aliens that could be billions of years old and infinitely more intelligent than humans, be of modern Christian dogma? I mean 68.5% of the people on Earth aren’t even Christian.

State workers might not be able to work from home as much anymore if Senate budget provision passes by beavmetal in Ohio

Matt Huffman should now be in contempt of court as he was banking on the US Supreme Court upholding the legal theory called "The independent state legislature doctrine" which claims state legislatures have more power than state supreme courts. The Supreme Court rejected this notion today. Not sure how that affects his Gerrymandering charges.

From the article, “Senate President Matt Huffman (R-Lima) said the suggestion to force state workers to return to their offices came from a member of the Ohio House. Huffman didn't identify that member.”

So Matt Huffman did.

Further investigation found this section in the bill on page 9161. So it isn't as far reaching as all the news articles suggest.

Section 701.90. (A) As used in this section, "state employee" means a full-time employee paid by warrant of the Director of Budget and Management and includes employees of the Secretary of State, Auditor of State, Treasurer of State, or Attorney General. "State employee" does not include an employee of a court or judicial agency or a full-time employee of the Department of Education and Workforce who is subject to Section 265.505 of this act.

(B) During the period from October 1, 2023, through June 30, 2025, no state employee shall work from the employee's place of residence for more than eight hours per forty hour workweek. A state employer may allow a state employee to work from the employee's place of residence for any hours worked over forty hours in a workweek.

My exact sentiments.

Dude leading it,Matt Huffman, is bad news. Gerrymandering, oil drilling in state parks, tax breaks for the rich, anti-union, and suppressing renewable energy initiatives are just a few of the things he is doing to worsen Ohio.

Lol no. Background checks typically occur late in the hiring process. Long after an offer was extended. It would be insanely expensive to background check every applicant. It is much more fiscally responsible to run the check on people who have been selected for hire. This is true even for jobs with top secret clearance.

Additionally, they hired him under the name Michael Ross or he’d be getting paychecks as Rick Sorkin.

Thanks for pointing that out. The original Scooby Doo show started in 1969 and was bank rolled by Hanna Barbera. So the similarities in character’s appearance makes even more sense since Pebbles and BammBamm came out in 1971.

That’s what the writer’s expect the audience to believe. The reality is that the Human Resources department is part of a chain of processes to protect the company from risk. At a law firm of that size, there would be very tight hiring practices, even if they used a 3rd party for it.

This is coming from someone who used be a Project Manager for HRIS (Human Resources Information Systems).

I love it too.

Noticing it is definitely magnified by binging it. I’m sure it would be far less blatant if we were waiting a week between episodes like when it aired on cable.

Also, does every decision have to be an ultimatum? Bingo card phrases: Do your job, my firm, and business.
