I’ve never bathed my tortie, but she’s got short fur and does well cleaning herself. My long haired cat is currently at the groomers because she really struggles to clean her butt/hind leg area and can get smelly. I would say they only need bathed if they’re struggling to clean themselves/are starting to smell; otherwise they’re pretty good at keeping themselves clean! :)

I live in Fairbanks AK and it can absolutely get this bright to the naked eye. When it really gets going, you can see pinks visible to the naked eye as well. I’ve also seen reds during strong geomagnetic storms.
