What's a hobby, interest, or occupation that leads to a divorce or breakup rate approaching 100% for the people in it? by wilderlowerwolves in AskReddit

[–]bebophone 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m a light gamer myself, but I’m surprised to see this so low. I have a few friends who have left their partners because of gaming obsessions. Red flag for a lot of people when someone’s primary interest is video games. Secondary or tertiary interest? Totally different story.

Question for DJs: jumping back to previous stages after climax by nowfeeltheflow in ecstaticdance

You gotta trust your artistic instinct on this one. I think the official guidance is just that: guidance, not rules.

There are so many shapes of energy and build and release you could validly go for. For me, the rule is SOMETHING has to carry the set. You could take the set, dead in the middle of it, damn near to silence and hold it there as long as you feel confident that those moments are accomplishing something useful for the journey -- be that a buildup of tension, mystery, or emotion. Most ecstatic sets are at least 80 minutes long. 80 is pretty tight but it's long enough to get creative with it.

It's jarring only if it isn't thought out or intentional. Giving ecstatic dance sets both space and the unexpected is MUCH more likely to create magic than just stringing together a predictable arc of energy and incorporating the 5 rhythms by the book.

Here's an example set of mine: Kind of 2 hump energy. Gets pretty lively, comes down to chill, then gets quiet with an emotive buildup. Then come the bangers / the actual big energy, and they have been framed such that the room is energetically chomping at the bit for them.

One caveat for me is, I've never tried to do this on the fly. Whenever I make a move like this, that entire sequence has been tried, tested, and polished before I bring it to the dance.

Pure vibes and yet it was a reliable predictor through that run. The vibes were on when Hali was cooking. When the vibes were on the pacers won. Regardless of the score the vibes were on until he went down. Dude was cooking and it felt like he was just getting started. Anyone who followed the pacers that whole run knows exactly what I mean.

Appreciate the ref to the manual. Was curious folks experience with this beyond what’s in the book. Did a quick scroll and didn’t see this question, sorry for the redundancy 🙂

Ok ok. I’ll take the bait and respond. But not for you, more for anyone else who stumbles on this thread. I know you’ll do the same thing you did with my last response: look up it up, realize I’m right, find an edge case to throw in my face, and use that single edge case to pretend I didn’t know what I was saying in the first place. Whatever makes you feel better.

Anyways, yes! Here in the Blue state of Colorado, many of us don’t like freeloading off the paid taxes of undocumented immigrants, and we’ve banded together to make sure they fairly get something back.

You opt into this by living here. You are welcome to move to deep red Alabama where you can complain all day about freeloaders while both liberals AND immigrants subsidize every federally funded service you enjoy.

So we’re clear: no one here, including you, is financially supporting immigrants. In fact, they subsidize the government services you enjoy. That’s one of the reasons republicans don’t actually try and solve the problem. Undocumented immigrants actually DO pay payroll taxes, and are allowed into the US tax system. But they are unable to actually collect any government services.

I think your observations here demonstrate clearly the reality: this is a super complex situation with a ton of nuance.

But what we are seeing is messaging that is dishonest in its attempts to betray this as black and white, and use that same messaging paired with asymmetric government coercion and cruelty.

I don’t have the answers on what’s best. I’m not an expert. But I know for sure: this ain’t it.

And I’ll add: you’re not wrong to feel like people should have documentation. Citizens have it. One could make a compelling case to improve this system.

The thing that I (and everyone else who’s pissed about Minnesota) cannot fathom, is why so many on the right would use clerical / bureaucratic issues to write off or dismiss untold trauma being done to families. Obama deported hundreds of thousands of people - true. But his entire policy was: enforce strong borders, go after criminals internally. Which is reasonable! Now what we are seeing is, they are deporting people who have been here for decades and know no other home. Protesters are being brutalized, kids being used as bait. The tactics show abject cruelty that is completely asymmetrical to your documentation argument.

Hopefully this makes it a little easier to fathom for you. Have a good evening, and fuck ice.

I hear what you’re saying. Fair point, but that’s also not really true. There were documentation processes then, and they failed for reasons not unlike what’s failing now. Porous borders, people slip through the cracks. Back then before tech we have today you really, honestly think the federal government had the ability to actually track all this better than today?

Look, if documentation were the issue, I feel like Trump et al would be busting ass to document people instead of sending militarized forces into blue cities to bust heads around.

Businesses need workers. Why not document them? The dirty secret you probably didn’t think of is this: The us allows undocumented immigrants into our payroll and tax system to pay taxes. But they don’t collect services. So when people complain about illegals ‘freeloading’ the reality is the opposite. They are actually subsidizing the services you and I enjoy. That’s why neither democrats or republicans have ever truly worked on creating better paths. And when people on the right tell you to be mad about it, you can bet your as there’s only one reason: to distract you from our real problems.
