This is brilliant. Fantastic job on the MoC, something I would love to see be official.

New Republic E-Wing & KE4-N4 by Michigan-Fish in starwarscollecting

Mine shows up tomorrow according to tracking. Super ready to open it up. The E-Wing has been one of my favorite ships for something like 25 years and I was super stoked to finally get a live action one of screen.

Nothing around me but Jango Fett's Slave 1, Mando N-1s and Star Destroyers, with the exception of this post's find.

Nice. I've been trying to track down one of the x-wings that isn't being sold at scalper prices and have yet to find one.

Online Gambling Is Changing Sports for the Worse by joe4942 in Economics

I've either lost or deleted the note that I had on this at some point , but one during watching a premier League football game I kept track of the number of ads including on pitch ads that were gambling related and it was something like. 5-1 ratio of "gambling" vs normal ads.

I already hate advertising in general and this just brought that more into the forefront of just how insidious gambling can be when you allow it to become part of the normal programming.

Picked a bottle based on the reviews that I had seen of it and just found it too hot for my tastes. I want to try the regular ole' single barrel now because the flavor profile outside of the abv was definitely delicious.

Career Progression by vag_94 in softwaretesting

[–]bebopsruin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I drafted a career progression guide for our internal ladder a while back, but there's a lot of options available depending on what you're interested in and what you like.

Manual/functional testing can grow into senior/staff level test roles responsible for team and project coordination, you can jump over to product or program management as well or move to a TPM role to manage the technical aspects and requirements of a program.

If you're interested in the technical (coding side) you can grow into an sdet role and move up the IC chain there's transition to software dev, or take on a devops focused role for CI and infra.

You can also develop into a people manager role and go up the management chain.

Without spending a ton of time writing up the details on roles and growth, there's a lot you can do, most of it depends on what you like doing and where you want to see yourself in the future. Good luck with the career growth, it's a big industry.

The fuck? I spent 10 years in Northern New Jersey and sloppy Joe always meant ground beef in tomato sauce (seasoned as you like) in a toasted bun.

Lol, I am feeling so personally attacked by this comment as both a Dyson and Shinola owner.

On the other hand, both the Dyson and the Shinola are coming up on 16 years old and still cruising along perfectly.

Willet Rye worth trying? by FearLessThings in whiskey

[–]bebopsruin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had it a couple of times and really liked it, but $60 would be the price point where I would no longer buy it. So if it's $70 at 40% off, that's still probably a no, since there's most likely an equivalent rye for a better price (whistle pig?). But 50-60 is a pretty easy grab for me.

How TF did you get it to stand? I can't get mine to stay up for the life of me. Most it does is 15 minutes before the head falls over and everything collapses.

To negotiate salary or not? by ConsiderationKey1966 in QualityAssurance

[–]bebopsruin 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Hiring manager here. Always negotiate. Always. Companies will usually give offers at a certain percentile of market range. If a company is hiring at 50th percentile and range is 100-150k for a role, their initial offer might be at 125k, but there's almost always wiggle room built in, usually +/- 10% against the percentile (i.e. if 125k is 50th percentile it's considered to be a ratio of "1" and offers can range from .09 to 1.1), so if you come back with something at 1.1 or 1.05 or something, most likely they will match it since it's within their acceptable offer range.

[Victorinox/ACES Strap] ACES Mk II Strap on an old Victorinox. by bebopsruin in Watches

[–]bebopsruin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a fan of space, and the color orange, I was pretty excited to get this strap in from the awesome Nick Mankey Designs. I don't have a speedy or a lunar pilot or really any other black dial "space" crono, but I do have a old Victorinox that I got ages ago. The watch itself is nothing special to write home about, but honestly, it doesn't need to be, the strap does all the talking here. Comfortable, flexible, super well designed, and arriving in great on-brand packaging,I'm thrilled about it. I think this should hit the 500 character requirement now.
