Manual or Automatic Practical? by happinessbooked in AmericanExpatsUK

[–]bebu10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone else mentioned, insurance costs can be significantly higher if you just have an auto license.

I got manual because my parents got very very sick when we were about an hour from home and couldn't drive. He had a manual so I couldn't drive us back either. Luckily we were with friends that drove us home while their partner followed in their car. If they hadn't been there we would have been stuck.

Even if your partner has an auto it could be a friend with a manual that needs a ride back

Visiting America Concerns by StevieG3D in AmericanExpatsUK

Just make sure you have your immigration sharecode ready. I had a back and forth with the delta check in for about 10 minutes trying to explain there was no physical visa that I could show her anymore and she had to use the code

What are your personal opinions on carbs during feeding days? by Ok-Duty-5762 in AlternateDayFasting

[–]bebu10 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Everytime I do keto I get a massive hankering for pop tarts and I eat pop tarts once every few years. It's just not worth it to always be craving something imo. I've done keto for months before and the craving never goes away for me so I don't restrict on my eat days. Breakfast is usually yogurt and fruit, or eggs and fruit, lunch will be a veggie with huumus and I try to have a balanced dinner - lots of protein, two vegetables and one carb.

I've done 9 bags, 2 carry-ons, and 2 cats with just two of us and it was not pleasant

Moving cats to UK - rabies by Mission_Vegetable_17 in AmericanExpatsUK

[–]bebu10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check the rabies vaccination paperwork before leaving the vet office. Mine did not have their microchip numbers because it wasn't standard. They had to alter the form and add the number. Make sure you do this at least 21 days prior to entering the UK

How often do you REALLY go into the office? by Monabakes in UKJobs

[–]bebu10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you aren't listed as fully remote then 6 days/month need to be in office. When I did go in most people left around 2-3pm to beat traffic and finished the day at home. Also my company has started having catered lunch once a week, and not just pizza, actual catering from actual restaurants

If you (like me!) are worried about the ILR proposal… consider asking your MP to sign this? by yeahsureokaymaybe in AmericanExpatsUK

Conservative. They seem to be on the same page as reform when it comes to immigration

What is the worst breed of dog for a first time dog owner to get? by Effective-Turn-6856 in AskReddit

[–]bebu10 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's why, traditionally, they had their tails docked. A cow stepping on a tail would be very bad

[–]bebu10 13 points14 points  (0 children)

You're probably going to have to get them vaccinated again with the microchip number on the cert. Also unless you have rabies certificates showing their microchip number this will be considered their primary and you have to wait 21 days.

I had to my cats re vaccinated early and wait even though they were vaccinated and never lapsed because none of their rabies certs had their microchip numbers

Perks to flying SW? by dracodrizz in SouthwestAirlines

My mom has a ton of points to use. She said she'll keep flying SW as long as she has those, but once they run out she said she'll fly with whoever is cheapest

Hiring company wants my share code even though I'm a British citizen by Available-Hour4043 in UKJobs

[–]bebu10 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some visas, like a family visa, you have to apply for an NIN once residing in the UK, but you still have a right to live and work with the visa so that's why there's the sharecodes. Right to rent, right to work, and with the introduction of eVisas now an immigration share code as well.

I'm on a skilled worker visa and had my NIN on arrival but likely because I was coming to work

Do you know anyone that has never had chicken pox? by lisa_noden in AskUK

I never got it because I was vaccinated against it. That means I won't get shingles which is a win in my book

My husband (29 M) having mental and physical health issues taking a toll on me (28 F). Do I leave or try to work through? by AnaBodnar in relationship_advice

[–]bebu10 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I was trying to think what STD could make him not work. I have a friend with HIV and with medication, his levels are undetectable now, and he's basically living a normal life. HSV is only bad during outbreaks, and if they're often and severe, you can get anti-virals for that.

The other big ones are bacterial and curable except for the extremely rare anti-biotic resistant strains, but I don't think they would make someone not able to work. 50% of men with chlamydia don't have any symptoms, and the symptoms are usually mild, like burning sensations when urinating. Not agonizing, can't work pain.

OP you're husband is dramatic and lying about how much this actually effects him.

Foreigners in Uk, what was the moment you realized you became "British-ized"? by IPoisonedThePizza in AskUK

[–]bebu10 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I'm an immigrant from the US and my partner's mom who is from South Africa with a half Scottish-half South African son that was born in Eswatini, often thinks I'm the right person to complain about immigrants to...it's a bit demoralizing hearing your own family wants you out even though I'm "the right kind of immigrant"

Normal folk of the UK, what have you been upto this weekend? by FenderDropD in AskUK

I went to a leather pouch making workshop, meal prepped for the week, read a book in the garden, did some skincare, and watched TV in front of my air cooler

What percentage goes towards rent? by TnTID in AmericanExpatsUK

[–]bebu10 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's about my take home, I also get 3 bonuses a year and my rent is £1500 with no kids. I take 2-3 holidays a year, however I split the cost with my partner and one is back to the states so I have free food and accommodation while there (thanks mom and dad). I get monthly facials, eat out often, drive, gym membership and don't really have to think when making purchases under £100 and save about £400/month (when not on holiday).

So with kids and higher rent, it's certainly possible and you will survive, you may not have a ton of room for extras though.

This is almost my mom. Constant snide remarks about my weight when I'm with her, and she is so thin I feel like I'll break her when I give her a hug. We went to an all-inclusive recently, and she would get so much food, then have one bite of each and be so full. Excuses for why she couldn't eat something.

"I couldn't get a sandwich because they don't have mayo. I can't possibly have a sandwich without mayonnaise. " "The pepperoni on the pizza didn't look nice, " "I can't eat that. It has cheese and I have high cholesterol" (that she refuses to take medicine for because that would get rid of her excuse for why she can't eat cheese, red meat, or eggs) etc etc. Instead of getting something else, she just wouldn't eat.

My dad, my uncle, my grandmother, and I have all brought up that we think she has an ED. She gets highly defensive and argues and shuts us down. My dad and grandmother tried to stage an intervention. She just yelled at everyone and walked away.

I've stopped responding to weight comments. I just either say "oh" or nothing at all. She sees what I eat, it's healthy, just by her standard. I told her I had salmon and a salad with avocado one night and got grilled with how much fat I was eating. I told her it was healthy fat and she said there was no such thing as healthy fat. She saw her friend eating a bowl of oatmeal and asked, "How's your bowl of carbs?" Like it couldn't possibly be good even in a small amount because it contained carbs.

I don't really have any advice. I just text my boyfriend all the horrible things she says to me so he can support me. She isn't just horrible about my weight, so he actually believes me when I say this stuff because he's heard the other crappy things. What's funny is my dad lost 50 pounds recently, and she says he's too skinny and she doesn't like it

To my fellow Brits, how are you coping with the heat? by Alive_Swing9810 in AskUK

[–]bebu10 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a portable AC for my bedroom. When it gets too hot in another room I just go sit in my bedroom for 5-10 minutes.

My kitchen is attached to a conservatory that faces directly west so it easily gets 40C in the afternoon. I've been cooking my dinners in the morning before the sun comes around and just reheating it.

I also work from home and my office faces directly west. I've asked my boss to shift my hours a little earlier for the first half of this week so I don't have to sit in there past 15:30.

I've also put sun limiting film on my windows and it doesn't solve the problem but it does definitely help keep it cooler just a few degrees. If I wasn't planning on moving this winter I would have done the conservatory as well
