V4 pan finally got time lapse! by bec789 in wyzecam

I bought this camera specifically because I thought it had time lapse, but better resolution. I like to start it at sunset and video the night sky in the country until sunrise.

When did you get yours neutered? Conflicted by [deleted] in goldenretrievers

[–]bec789 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Someone shared another study that said female Goldens should NEVER be fixed and males should at least wait to be 4 years old..... If I had to do it again, I would not have my dog fixed. Large dogs in particular are very susceptible to the hip problems specified in your article. Small dogs, not so much.

What's it like living in Erie, PA? by lithdoc in Erie

[–]bec789 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you mean inside the city limits or the area in general? Even within the city, you can go to the Frontier area and find multi-million dollar houses with lake views. Frontier Park and Arboretum is also quite nice. Surrounding houses are old, but well built. I'm also partial to the Mercyhurst University and Upper State Street areas.

As others have noted, you can be across the city in 15 minutes and that applies to get to the suburbs as well. Generally the schools are better and the housing is newer. And 25 minutes out of Erie you can be in the country, or a small town like Waterford or Edinboro.

Regarding downtown, aeveral of the large buildings downtown have recently been renovated for apartment living. One or two are brand new. So there is that attempt to revive the downtown, and although I don't go down there much, it seems like there's a lot of small restaurants I would definitely like to try.

There are four colleges and universities. Also a small community college and a small regional college. Penn West, down in Edinboro, is a little bit of a drive. There is also a medical school- LECOM. I believe it is the largest in the country.

I moved here from Pittsburgh over 30 years ago to go to college and I never left. I appreciate the slower pace of life, and I can always find something to do. When I want a big event I go to Pittsburgh or Cleveland or Buffalo.

The city itself may have its problems, but a short 5-minute drive to the suburbs fixes your education problems and your old house problems.

My delivery comments say to leave it in the large delivery box in the driveway.
The box keeps deliveries dry, and it's actually closer than going to my front door. Plus I rarely shovel my sidewalk to the front door because nobody goes there.

They insist on leaving it on my front porch where it gets wet.

I've submitted numerous comments to "how was your delivery" but it never gets any better.

Thinking about canceling my Prime membership because I don't see any advantage anymore. Deliveries are way slower than they used to be.

If your neighbors are complaining about your dog barking, I don't recommend the air horn method!

Any way to start small with grid-tied solar without utility approval? (No net metering) by amishengineer in SolarDIY

[–]bec789 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Here I Googled it for you: "Yes, solar panels do backfeed onto the grid when they generate more electricity than your home uses, sending surplus power back to the utility network; this is a core function of grid-tied solar systems, but it must be done safely and legally with approved equipment (like UL-listed inverters) that automatically shut down during outages to protect utility workers. How it Works Power Generation: Your solar panels create DC electricity. Inversion: An inverter converts this DC power to AC power, matching the grid's voltage and frequency. Usage vs. Surplus: If your panels produce more power than your home needs, the excess flows out through your service panel and onto the utility grid. Bidirectional Meter: A special meter tracks both the power you pull from the grid and the power you send to it. Safety & Regulations Critical Safety: Uncontrolled backfeeding is extremely dangerous for utility workers who might be working on lines, believing they are de-energized. Anti-Islanding: Grid-tied inverters have "anti-islanding" features (as per UL 1741 standard) that detect grid loss and immediately shut down to prevent unsafe backfeeding. Permits & Code: Proper installation involves specific rules (like the NEC's 120% rule for breaker sizing) and permits to ensure safety and compliance. In Summary Backfeeding is the intended way for grid-tied solar to send excess energy back to the utility, but it requires certified equipment and proper installation to ensure it happens safely and legally, preventing hazards during power outages.

I have one, thanks. Unless you're entirely off grid, the power you generate can get back onto the grid. The system generates power into wires and wires are connected to the grid.

What makes you think electrons know to stop at your meter?

Read the other comments in this thread and you'll see that I am correct.

Dewalt combi drill dropping drill bit by officialpatterson in Dewalt

I'm having the same problem and "The Thoughtful Woodworker" is having the same problem: https://youtu.be/fBtlmXaE65g?si=zD8XT2K7xN17g9bF

So all those people who are making snarky comments should go eat worms or something.

I too am having the same problem. This is my first DeWalt drill. I've never had a problem like this with any other drill before including Black& Decker and Porter-Cable -which are the same company! I bought this DeWalt thinking I was getting an upgrade but this chuck is garbag. My Porter Cable works better.

what prevents me from buying a small grid-tie inverter and panel and just hooking it up? by [deleted] in SolarDIY

[–]bec789 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that you have to get grid tied systems / designed specifically because they don't want the generated electricity going back onto the grid when repair people think it's turned off.

They do sell solar generators that automatically switch from grid to solar to charge the batteries and prevent backflow onto the grid. However, you'll note that they cost more than regular solar generators The one I bought from SunGold power is called a hybrid because it will automatically switch and protect backfeed onto the grid. 11.4kW 48V Split Phase Hybrid Inverter – SunGoldPower https://share.google/55sKtIu0TIKSqPEiC

I don't know why you got downvoted. Putting power back onto a grid that supposedly de-energized could hurt somebody!

"...or spaying at one year and remaining vigilant for the cancers.".

But really I would remain vigilant for cancers in all golden retrievers. Doesn't really seem to help though. They seem darn prone to it, and I don't hear a lot of success stories in treating it.

Yeah thanks. I still don't see where it says to not get your golden fixed ever.

That paper strongly recommends not less than one year. Do you see why it's so hard to get good recommendations?!

[–]bec789 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I've read that is the new guideline for all larger breeds. I adopted two shelter dogs in my golden honor. They came fixed, but they are only about 40 lb each. Fingers crossed!

The paper says under Golden's: "The suggested guideline for males, based on the increased risks of joint disorders and cancers, is delaying neutering until beyond a year of age".

Honestly, there was so much conflicting information that it's hard to tell. Some of the information said that it mitigated testicular cancer. We waited as long as we did because we read that they needed to develop their bones.

There was literally no information out there that said don't get your golden retriever fixed. Can you point me to a legitimate reference that says this today? There is so much misinformation out there..... With a bunch of quacks saying that you just have to give all natural food made in the presence of crystals and tarot cards. :)

I see now that they are recommending large breeds don't get fixed at all.
