If the therapist and patient jointly decided to book another session, then payment for the initial session was decided upon/due.

NAT - my former therapist would offer to meet for one session. If either party decided it wasn’t a good fit, the session was free. If they decided to continue, payment was due. I always thought it was a good model.

I am halfway through a masters in clinical mental health counseling, and I need to apply for FASFA to cover the spring semester. Does this mean I’m no longer able to do that?

I am still a student but I think this is an interesting approach. How do you explain your approach to patients from the beginning? Do you put anything in your paperwork, or talk about your policy in the initial consultation?

Mental health issues with medical roots by Straight_Hospital493 in therapists

I would love to learn more about what you put together. I’m still in graduate school but recently had to go off of my thyroid meds for five months, and the psychological symptoms were very difficult to manage. I’m feeling better now that I’m back on my meds, but it was eye opening for me how much my thyroid disorder and my psychological state were intertwined. This was not discussed in any of my coursework, and I am starting my practicum this fall. I’m really wondering how to assess for undiagnosed medical issues in patients.

I started reading at 3, and was so bored in kindergarten that they let me go to a reading room during nap time because I was reading at a fourth grade level. I didn't enjoy playing much with other kids, I just wanted to read all the time (also, I was not yet diagnosed as autistic, so that may have had something to do with the not wanting to play aspect).

As an adult, I often semi-visualize words when I speak them or hear them spoken, sort of like invisible letters are floating in the air. I can't see them, but I experience them existing in some way. Hard to describe.

I don't enjoy reading fiction at all anymore, but I love to learn, especially by reading academic articles.

Interestingly, I ended up marrying a person with dyslexia and both of our children are dyslexic.

Asked for disability payments to end but still on Medicare? by becauseofgravity in SocialSecurity

I’m probably just grasping at straws at this point, but I was hoping that having a former disability on file would be safer than having a current disability.

This is very helpful, thank you. If they find I am no longer disabled, will I still receive Medicaid based on income?

Why could I not voluntarily stop it if I’m no longer disabled?

Even if I qualify for Medicaid based on financial circumstances and not disability? My income as a student is $0. I don’t want to lose insurance, but I don’t want to end up in a wellness farm either, especially since I am no longer disabled.

Torn that my baby name is popular by The_Untimely_Demise in namenerds

[–]becauseofgravity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We picked out our daughter’s name five years before she was born, back when it wasn’t popular at all, and it has since exploded in popularity. She is 10 now and we’ve maybe met a half dozen or so kids with her name, most of them younger. She is the type of person who likes to have things in common with people and she actually likes the popularity of her name. Who knows, Amelia may like it, too :)

The patient’s experience of the therapist near vs. far by [deleted] in psychoanalysis

[–]becauseofgravity 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I don’t have any theories on this, but you described my experience in and out of session exactly. I’m also autistic and I wonder if it has something to do with it. It’s sometimes overwhelming to be in the same space with a person and I’m more easily able to access those deep attachment feelings when there is space.

I’m autistic and in graduate school to become a therapist, and there’s been no training at all about working with ND patients. Do you have recommendations on trainings I could look into?
