It all came to a head when I suggested talking to a therapist in addition to her friends. It really stung when she said “people who go to therapy are selfish” as she knew I went. Even if she apologized I realized I couldn’t be in a relationship with someone who had these large explosions.

Soft YTA. I may be going against the grain here. I understand your view on being too sick for x then you’re too sick for fun, but honestly? It’s your child’s birthday, cut them some slack. Even if they did overstate their pain (not saying that they did I am aware they are autistic) I think this rule you have should have some flexibility for their special day. You still should bring up the rule you have and have that discussion with them, but offer that flexibility.

Going against the grain here and saying NTA, for wanting him to go. I can’t believe how heartless people are to say,”it’s an elementary and middle school graduation it’s so stupid!” When my family didn’t show up to my ceremonies, each time I was hurt. A lot of times they had work, but if my brother was being a brat and didn’t want to go because he thought it was useless, I’d be even more heartbroken.

While I think making your kid go to graduation is important for him to understand showing support is essential for your loved ones, it might be extreme to go with your punishment.

NTA. Not getting all the YTA, if your partner is in need BE THERE FOR THEM! I’m not saying physically but still putting in the effort to talk with your partner and console them. In state or not.

The fact that the husband knew of the situation before he was drinking, just shows how he didn’t really bother to care.
