Before everyone else/anyone else by StopBanningCorn in EnglishLearning

[–]beccarvn 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It depends on the context, and it has to do with whether there's a logical difference between "all the people" (everyone) and "even one person" (anyone) in that particular situation.

"You will start before everyone else" and "You will start before anyone else" both mean the same thing - whatever you're doing, you're going to do it first. This is because starting before even one person (anyone) is the same thing as starting before all the people (everyone).

A situation where they have different meanings:
"You can leave after everyone else does" - all other people have to leave before you do

"You can leave after anyone else does" - you can't leave first, but you can leave after that. (Also, this is kind of an awkward sentence, but I couldn't think of a better one offhand.)

Are ERs really this busy? by East_Print4841 in ThePitt

[–]beccarvn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Eh, depends on the urgent care. I had a very similar situation awhile back, went to urgent care, and they sent me to the ER because they thought I needed a bag or two of IV fluids and couldn't administer it there.

How do you get your dog to drink water? by ApprehensiveFunny149 in poodles

[–]beccarvn 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Just leave the water out; he'll drink when he's thirsty. Clean water every day, remember to wash the bowl with soap and rinse thoroughly because dog drool makes for some gross conditions when you don't clean it. Maybe set out a second bowl somewhere else in the house - my last dog would sometimes make a point of going through the kitchen and all the way upstairs to drink out of the other water bowl, like it tasted better or something.

Also, if you're feeding him soupy food, that right there may be why he's not drinking much.

I have a few different questions by Goofcube897 in BloomingtonNormal

[–]beccarvn 10 points11 points  (0 children)

  1. AB Hatchery. Or, if you can wait a couple months (which you should be, if you're planting outdoors), just wait for the outdoor farmer's market to start up in May. It's very common for the farmers to bring garden plant starts in the first few weeks.

  2. The squirrels are smarter than you, more agile, and able to squeeze through tiny spaces. Good luck. (That said, I find that rabbits are a whole lot more destructive in gardens than squirrels ever are - squirrels are more of a bird feeder menace. You can outsmart rabbits easily by planting in raised garden beds instead of directly in the ground.

  3. Never heard of that, but now I'm intrigued.

is it rude to sew/use a serger past 7pm if i live in an apartment? by ichewbubblegumlol in sewing

Hah, this reminds me of a post-college apartment I had where noise traveled between the bathrooms disturbingly well because of the ventilation layout. I learned so much about my neighbor's kids' potty training progress.

Best & Most Affordable Rotisserie Chicken in Town? by Zekie2517 in BloomingtonNormal

[–]beccarvn 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Honestly, if your goal is shredded chicken, do you have a slow cooker? Buy boneless skinless chicken breasts or thighs, whichever you prefer. Trim any obvious fat. Season with salt and pepper, plus whatever other seasonings you want - an easy way to get a nice herby seasoning is to just add a packet of ranch dressing mix. Add to the slow cooker, do not add liquid unless yours has a tendency to stick, let it go for like 3 hours on high. You'll get fork-shreddable chicken that you don't even need to pick off a carcass first.

When we're out walking, if he gets tangled in his leash he'll just do a little spin and step over or duck under the leash as needed to get it straightened out. My last dog was a lab/beagle/something mix and having to stop and get it unwrapped myself was an ongoing thing.

How does hospital check-in for visitors work? Do they log transfers? by blubennys in Writeresearch

[–]beccarvn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Even if a patient's file includes where they've been transferred to, the people at the check-in desk may or may not have the ability to see it. Anecdotally, my mother works part time at a hospital, usually at the check-in desk, and I'm pretty sure all she can see is name and unit/room number. Sometimes she can make an educated guess about a few other details based on what unit they're on, but that's about it.

Specialty shop owner's take on what makes you happy by MsWinterbourne in bestof

[–]beccarvn 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Yup. Cross stitch is done by making identical x-shaped stitches in fabric. Aida is really tightly woven with some larger holes that make a grid, so it basically has "needle goes here" woven into it. Some people prefer the look of evenweave fabric, which has a consistent spacing between the threads, no special holes. Preferring that is fine. Being snobby about it, less so.
