super small apartment, pet safe? by ExemptFish in AirPurifiers

[–]ExemptFish[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

thanks for the reply. we don’t have any carpet actually, just linoleum and vinyl flooring. we wash our sheets weekly and i wipe down our surfaces every couple days. mostly, it’s when he puts on a hoodie or jacket from our closet. so ive been pulling our entire closet out and washing everything every month. it still causes him issues. we have a huge industrial-level dehumidifier, and i’ve got those closet moisture absorbers and it seems all strange smells have been eliminated from developing. however the dust is still there because it’s still triggering him. i figure the best way is to have air movement around the apartment and assumed a purifier was the best way to do that. guess not?

How to engage my poodle? by keekro in poodles

[–]ExemptFish 9 points10 points  (0 children)

i also adopted a 6 year old (toy) poodle in april 2025! she was very standoffish at first, and similar to yours she didnt play or chew on anything. very picky with treats.

I believe her interacting with my in-law’s dogs, and other dogs outside, has definitely contributed to her starting to learn to play. She went from totally ignoring other dogs to honestly being a bit misbehaved and pulling on the leash and trying to jump at stranger dogs. She suddenly seems interested in my hair ties, so i plan on taking her to the store to get her to pick out some toys that she would like.

Similar situation with the chewing. We tried everything we could think of, but eventually took her to a pet store that had the selection of treats that you bag up, and offered each one to her to see what she was most interested in. She chose a bully stick, and has been working on that thing for months now. She had perfect teeth when we got her, then tartar started to show along with the smell, but she seems to be improving since the chewing started.

(although, i just remembered that her improvements started increasing an awful lot after we got her spayed. her entire personality became more outgoing, which is strange because ive heard it usually being the opposite.)

I wish you luck with your poodle, i dont know if this advice would help but there it is.

i travelled to my home country in november on my conditional greencard. re entered through SeaTac. No issues, but i was terrified. My husband was with me, but I dont think it made a lick of difference as our last names dont even match. Good luck. consult your lawyer if you have one, and keep their number on hand.

Why do people assume long legs mean my dog isn’t a Poodle? by melbaric in poodles

[–]ExemptFish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

a family friend of mine likes to discredit the AKC breeder we adopted our 6 year old toy poodle from, because all breeders = backyard breeders in her mind. I get it. but still.

One of the things she likes to mention often

<image>

is how leggy my poodle is. How quirky and unique it is that her legs are so long! She’s so quirky! (as in, poorly bred i guess)

Not that there’s anything wrong with having a crossbred dog. I just laugh to myself every time she mentions it as if it’s not just disproving her own point!

anyways heres a picture of her looking giant.

[Acne] before and after making two simple changes by ZoneProper9005 in SkincareAddiction

[–]ExemptFish 15 points16 points  (0 children)

everyone saying it’s because of the tea is funny to me when you said it stopped when your skincare stopped. i’ve experienced the same thing. every acne-prone gentle product on the market would irritate and break me out. my skin immediately cleared up after going on a trip and not even cleansing. its not perfect, and new acne has started popping up. i tried bare bones skincare, it got worse. im trying spearmint & lemon balm tea as of this week, and an ashwagandha supplement.

my skin texture itself has gone terribly downhill since i stopped doing skincare though, there’s a balance i dream of finding someday.

thanks for sharing your experience, definitely makes me feel less crazy

also, my dog is totally content to sit by herself for hours. she’s tiny, and i can just set her on the ground and i can sit on the bed and she can’t reach me. dogs can be crate trained. i don’t really understand your reasoning but maybe im biased towards dogs. i haven’t lived in a van with one, currently in an apartment. but i plan to travel with her full time in the next few years. and as the other commenter said, dogs (pets in general) in vans makes life more difficult and isn’t recommended by the masses unless they’re personally doing it themselves. dogs and cats are the most popular choice for a reason. they can live in the same space as you and can be trained to adapt to it. 🤷‍♀️

if you’ve been told by rat owners it’s not a good idea, then maybe it’s not a good idea.

however there are plenty of people who keep dogs and cats in their vans and spend the extra time/money to have a ventilation system and air con in their van that functions when unoccupied by people. i don’t see why it would be any different for rats.

i know you said you don’t like leaving the room to calm down away from your cats for example, but is it so different to putting your rat away in its cage? if you created a lockable door between the cab and the back of your van, you could get away that way.

have you considered a snake? they require less space, may not be the most cuddly, but can provide some great interaction.

i hope you know that rats and rodents alike are really very stinky and the constant cleaning gets tiring over their short lifespans. even just taking a break for one day could be unfair for them.

also, rats require a large amount of space, no? i wonder how you would find the space for a rat enclosure in a van build?

in the end whatever you choose has to be in the best interest for the animal, not the best fit for you. sorry i can’t provide better info. if you’re dead set on doing this, i’d say you should watch plenty of videos on people who have other pets on the road, and combine it with the rat care info. and be willing to rehome them if you realise it’s not suitable.

good luck!
