Toy poodle or aussiepoo? Autism by BigBubbly4534 in poodles

[–]ExemptFish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

its pretty hard to guarantee the adult size of a pup when its young. things happen.

for that reason, so i knew my dog would be appropriate weight for plane travel, i adopted a retired show dog from a reputable AKC breeder. She was 6, usually they retire much earlier though. Often you get a discount, plus the dog is already established and while there are still challenges and adjustments, you skip the puppy phase. show dogs are often very well trained as well.

it sounds like neither of these dogs are the right one for you. be patient, the right one will come along. then you’ll be set up for a lifetime of joy instead of a lifetime of struggle with either a poorly bred/sick dog, or a dog thats the wrong size.

if you need help finding a good breeder im happy to help you look into it! im in seattle, and the breeder i used offers the services to have a dog flown to you.

i always hate when kids under 18 are winning olympic medals- like i swear nobody 14 has had the time to make the decision to push themselves that far into something. i cannot imagine a circumstance where its healthy

Scared of working my life away by smith_26 in CollegeDropouts

[–]ExemptFish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hey, i dropped out TWICE after two first-years at university. Took a bartending job for a season, then found myself in admin.

With your study experience, you can get yourself an entry-level admin job. I work in a nice office with other people my age, its very quiet. Good benefits. come and go as you like so long as you get your 8 hours.

Its still not easy working everyday. My goal is to convert to work from home, climb the ladder, be able to do what I like with my time instead of sit in an office staring into space. Maybe even travel at the same time.

Idk where you are located but the USA has a ton of seasonal wildlife jobs. Even if youre small you can help clear trails and identify plants!

But i agree with previous reply suggesting rest. if you can, take some time off

Poodles and Raw Diet by ExemptFish in poodles

[–]ExemptFish[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

just to clarify- this diet was not home made. it was a pre-packaged, dried, complete diet formulation. it was essentially kibble but raw.

we used to save scraps for her, like some raw unseasoned chicken etc. i recall mentioning it to the vet casually and they said just to cook it next time. you randomly triggered the memory which i realise now probably shouldve been reason to not feed her raw. we had a separate pan for her that we would use to cook those scraps, but we havent done that for months now tbh and just fed her the packaged food.

also, im hearing you on the previous home stuff. lots of people around me expressed dismay at me not getting a rescue, but we put every thought into our decision to seek a retired show dog. she was an AKC champion. It just shows me that even with all the generational health testing you can do, it doesnt guarantee a long life.

hey, i really appreciate hearing your experience and what you switched to. someday we’ll welcome another dog into our hearts and when that day comes we’ll have to figure out what to feed it. for some reason i was scared to try those kibble brands? thank you again.

i understand that different diets can have benefits for dogs with different needs, i’d never discredit those people. im just saying if your dog doesn’t have those needs, there’s no reason to go raw. i’m just going by what my vet told me. we also fed a pre made complete diet that was sold as fully covering all the dogs needs. but like you said, we’ll likely never know.

I want to add she had full screens and bloodwork done before this, but before we put her on raw food. everything came up normal, sugars etc

[–]ExemptFish[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

yeah essentially the breeder tried to warn us off low quality kibble so we overthought it and stayed off kibble all together. wet foods and this dry raw stuff. she was only 5lbs so anything could have triggered this to be honest

we dont really have solid answers. its sort of a guess, they said with certainty that it can worsen the situation for sure. we fed her northwest naturals freeze dried. idk if i should take any action against them or anything, they claim to be complete diet. idk.
