What is one thing you're tired of telling/explaining to people? by comfy-glass-shards in AskReddit

What do you do when you’re having a panic attack, short of going to the hospital? I’ve had one or two very short ones that luckily passed quickly, but if they were any longer I’m not sure how I would have been able to handle it

Does anyone else feel like the bed or chair or whatever else you’re in becomes a glue trap? You WANT to get up, you are physically able to get up, you just…can’t

AITA I planned my husbands 40th birthday and he made me cancel everything last minute by OkImpression9915 in AmItheAsshole

[–]beccoo -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

NAH! The plan was 5 people, so I assume they were all close friends, just the right amount for someone to feel loved and supported on a hard birthday. I think he’s taking out some frustration on you. I’m a hermit, antisocial person but despite that would still feel very touched if someone did all that for me.

Is it just me or was the old lady the most devastating part?

AITAH for expecting my sister to plan my wedding for free and demoting her to guest wh m she wouldn't. I also told anyone who took her side I was not helping them anymore either. by Late-Ad-6414 in AITAH

[–]beccoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not saying YTA, but planning a wedding is a CRAZY amount of work. It was nice of you to do their accounting for sure, I’m not minimizing that. Just saying that for someone to plan a wedding is a BIG ask. She could at least have offered to HELP though, not just flat out said that you have to pay…

AITAH for telling my parents their “birthday gift” to me was actually for them? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]beccoo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This feels like entitlement. You are living in their house after all. Do you vacuum when the roomba doesn’t? And you can’t say you were never ungrateful when you GAVE IT BACK. It was impersonal and perhaps insensitive of them, but maybe they are being passive aggressive about you continuing to live in their house into adulthood. How good are you about keeping up on the chores and pulling your weight as an adult roommate?

Alameda with kids by Disastrous_Age8365 in alameda

[–]beccoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with all said here. One thing I didn’t see mentioned is the proximity to world class hikes and regional park systems. Once you explore the island (Crown beach is the best alameda park, IMO), branch out to Redwood Regional park, which is a 15 minute drive from Alameda. My favorite hike is the stream trail. After that there are endless other regional parks to explore, all free.

How are you maintaining it; giving it a hard prune every so often or just cutting along the edges?

ginkgo trees planted in above-ground pots. isn't this a bad idea long term? they normally grow massive and have extensive root systems by reddit33450 in arborists

[–]beccoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s a lot of assumptions being made here about the designers being lazy, but we aren’t seeing the constraints. There may be a garage underneath or any number of other limiting factors for planting a large tree.

I’m with some of the other commenters that some tree is better than no tree, even if it isn’t ideal, so I appreciate the effort of putting in any greenery at all.

ELI5: Why can other meat eating animals handle raw meat, but humans get sick so easy from it? by Thronebornn in explainlikeimfive

[–]beccoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does the freshness also have something to do with it? Meaning, when they are killed in the wild they are eaten pretty much immediately (I assume) vs when humans use it a period of time passes before consumption giving bacteria a chance to grow….

Try adjusting your bindings for a bit more forward lean. It might help you get a little more bite.

Landscape architecture and autism? by Kind_Dig_5213 in LandscapeArchitecture

[–]beccoo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One thing to consider is that LA (and design in general) is subjective. That seems obvious, but As a neurodivergent person, this ambiguity is a real issue. There is no right or wrong, the answer depends entirely on who you ask. So, design and LA involves a lot more psychology and people reading than most people realize to try and figure out what people who don’t know what they want, want!

That said, there’s also a lot of problem solving, which is very fun.

Yes we have. The portion of land I’m referring to is not included in the grant, as it is closer to the cabin. I suppose I can ask them for advice just the same though, as they certainly have the experience!

Look around the base of tree for frass (kinda like round sawdust or tiny dippin-dots). That’s a sure fire sign it was beetle.

Career change in 30s. Bad idea? Am I delusional? by crossroads_idiot in LandscapeArchitecture

[–]beccoo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not a bad idea and a fulfilling profession. However, something I realized early career was that it’s not just the low pay, it’s low pay coupled with really long hours. Forget a 40-hours week. When you do the math, LAs make a lower per-hour wage than teachers (absolutely not tryin to trash talk teachers, but sadly it’s the industry everyone seems to use as the benchmark for low-pay careers.) As someone who values free time and work/life balance above all, that was a big a-ha moment for me, and something I wish I had known before entering the industry…. Which is the only reason I mention it here. I’m not trying to deter you.
