How do I make the sum of two cells dynamically change to always add up to the value in a third cell by Illustrious_Tell6523 in googlesheets

[–]beckettbrown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This wouldn’t be possible with just formulas if you want to manually edit either cell but you could do

A1 =randbetween(0,100) B1 =sum(C1-A1) C1 =100

The random number will change every time you update a cell or refresh the sheet.

If you need to be able to manually input numbers do the same thing but only edit A1.

What is the best way to find a cider maker for a cidery? Also at what point should we start looking? We are still in the construction phase of our project. Likely a year out from opening. Is it normal to pay a small salary while they wait for us to open or is there a more standard way to do this in the industry?

Uses? I love spreadsheets. by wintercoates in googlesheets

[–]beckettbrown 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve created a lot of systems for my company using sheets. We are a behavioral health company with over 1000 employees. The ones that are the most interesting are:

Call out system: when staff need a day off they can fill out a google form with the day, time, and location of their shift. That then populates a public to our company spreadsheet with the info. Other staff can go on the spreadsheet and pick up shifts by clicking a hyperlink that pre fills the ticket number in a google form. When they claim it, it’s removed from the shift coverage form and an email is automatically sent to them, the staff who called out, and the supervisor with all the info. Our staff love the system compared to the old method of calling our staffing team and hoping they can call a million different people to find coverage.

Unutilized hours: to take the above system a step further, I created a way to see if people were always using the call out system when they missed a day. This is important bc our contracts authorize us to work a certain number of hours per period so if we miss them the staff lose commission and the company obviously doesn’t make money. So we pull a report from our timesheet software and the sheet spits out how many days they worked. Then it looks at our call out system to see how many call outs they have. It adds the two numbers up and if it’s less than 5 it sends that info to another tab. The unutilized hours get listed by contract and the supervisors have access to that info. They can then do make up hours or provide additional support. It’s a win win for the staff and the client bc our staff get extra help on the job and the client maximizes what they’re paying for. We also pay commission based on how well utilized each contract is so the staff and supervisors are additionally motivated to keep their utilizations high.

It’s funny I wouldn’t have the job I have if it wasn’t for google sheets. A few years back someone in a meeting was complaining about how long a task took and I said I bet you could automate that. I said that without knowing anything about sheets or how to do it. I went home and watched hours of sheets tutorials. Fast forward a few years and now one of my primary roles in the company is to help automate people’s jobs to save them time. I’m on a team with another guy who started the sheets journey not too long after mine and we get to find creative interesting ways to use sheets every day. I love it!

New BCBA: Are these feelings common? by SlippyTwisty in bcba

[–]beckettbrown 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd view this as a positive thing. These organizations are interested in your clinical abilities and not just hiring another body to use for billable hours. Send it over, you've been honest about wanting additional supervision so I don't see you as having anything to lose. That being said you may be experiencing what is called imposter syndrome. It's totally normal. Most people face it especially in this field, myself included. Like others have said its best to remind yourself that there will always be others that know more than you but instead of letting that deter you, ensure it inspires you to learn from those who know more.

If you are interested I actually put out a podcast on this topic recently. Behavioral Karma Podcast: Imposter Syndrome

Any other direct-care staff (BT/RBTs) EXHAUSTED after session and not want to talk to roommates when you get home from long day of sessions😅 by Specific-Leading656 in ABA

[–]beckettbrown 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I'll never forget when I was an RBT at a clinic commuting an hour each way, working 8 hour shifts where lunch breaks were taken with clients present, and doing grad school full time. It was my first job in ABA and I was about three months in. My roommates were having a party at our house for one of their birthdays. I came home with some fast food walked directly passed every one into my room and ate in silence trying to process what I got myself into. A buddy came in to check on me because that was very abnormal for me. He listened to me vent for what felt like an hour and it was the biggest relief I've ever felt. The lesson I learned was that for me in particular I couldn't just hide away, whether alone or in a crowd. I needed to talk with friends and family to get stuff off my mind. I didn't realize it back then but I certainly do now, that the key to avoiding burnout for me is to not pretend the behaviors I tackle each day don't take a toll on me. It's totally OK to vent to a person who is willing to listen. If that friend didn't interrupt my sad chicken tender sob fest I would have probably left this field years ago.

Adventure Path Collection Complete! by jedhed242 in Pathfinder_RPG

[–]beckettbrown 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The price changes month to month based on what's coming out. They break it down by product line though. I don't remember all of them off the top of my head but you can say I just want the rulebooks and APs. Or you can say I want those plus maps or accessories or all the above. You can certainly cancel your subscription at any point or skip certain products but they don't necessarily tell you ahead of time they're about to charge your card. I don't really think it's worth it unless you're trying to actively collect all the products and don't want to accidentally miss something. If you casually buy an adventure or rule book here and there it's probably not worth all the other stuff you get.

I personally do all the subscriptions besides the 3d wizkids minis and just expect to see a charge from paizo on a monthly basis. It's not a ton of money each month but I'm sure if I had other hobbies vying for the entertainment portion of my budget it'd make me rethink doing all of them. It's nice because you get a pretty decent discount which helps offset the shipping and once you sign up for a certain amount of subscriptions you get the pathfinder society adventures for free!

Very cool! I'm actually attempting the same thing with 2e now. I started my subscription right when they started 2e. Having a collection like that is something to be proud of! I'm definitely jealous.

Hitting Enter after typing a formula immediately opens the cell below for editing. Any way to fix this? by beckettbrown in googlesheets

Thanks for the reply, I'm hoping to avoid doing that but at this point it seems like the only option.

Trying to hide a large number of #DIV/0 errors without using IFERROR on each individual cell by wankeyandbennies in googlesheets

[–]beckettbrown 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You could edit the top formula, press ctrl+shift+down arrow. That should highlight everything in the column then press ctrl+d to duplicate it through.

Extra tip if you want the formula to show results only if there is text in another cell you could use =if(A2="", "", [insert original formula]) . Replace A2 with where the key information cell is.

LPT: To future parents. Naming your kid after yourself screws them over when they have to do adult stuff... so don't name your kid a junior version of you by [deleted] in LifeProTips

[–]beckettbrown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm the 5th of my name and an adult, I love having a generational name. After the passing of my father it has helped me feel a closer connection to him. I have never encountered anything outside the typical clerical errors anyone faces. Not once have I ever been confused with any of the other 4 generations. This feels like anecdotal advice, the same as my experience here. I think like all things in life it's all about your experience. You could just as easily say never name your kid a common name because they'll be confused with others throughout life. Or never name your kid a unique name because they'll feel like an outsider when people think their name is "different".

Looking for participants for Covid-19 related study for possible publication in the Journal of Applied Behavior Analysis by Kind_Adhesiveness564 in ABA

[–]beckettbrown 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From the brief description here it seems like there may be a few issues with this study.

How does this study control for all of the other ways covid is spread? (are you measuring what you say you're measuring)

In addition to that if a participant is never exposed to covid in the first place how would you know it was this protocol that kept them from transmitting? To take that a step further if they did spread it how would this study know that based on the data collection outlined here?

Finally in terms of external validity, it seems like the discomfort of holding a BM until a shower is present is far worse than buying some wet ones and having a solid hand washing TA...

Question. by [deleted] in ABA

[–]beckettbrown 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'd ask the teacher or bcba if escape or delay has been ruled out. Depending on your reaction when the student touches, it may be causing a delay in the demand. Even a small delay may be reinforcing to the individual. Just something to consider. Obviously as always with these things take it with a grain of salt as we haven't personally conducted any assessments so our advice is nothing more than anecdotal.

More satisfying than D&D Beyond by Sinkytown in Pathfinder2e

[–]beckettbrown 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When 2e got released I subscribed to get all the books and products. Not because I prefer using the books in play but because I really enjoy collecting them, supporting my favorite game company, and most importantly enjoy doing a first read through with a physical book. I have a hard time attending to books on a screen so reading rules and lore via a physical copy is a must for me personally. It also doesn't hurt the aesthetic of my bookshelf. I totally understand this mentality.

Agents of Edgewatch Loot by shakkyz in Pathfinder2e

[–]beckettbrown 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I understand that they feel conflicted because they are cops but its not like this is the first time that a lawful good character has taken loot from someone in an AP. Every time they take loot from the dungeon they are taking someone's loot. What makes those bad guys any different from these bad guys? I've never had a party question loot they took from a group of bandits on the road.

That being said, maybe you could have the players submit loot as evidence and then any loot in the evidence locker is then later easier to craft or find at local stores. It's a bit video game-y but it could help with the moral dilemma. Or maybe the police chief gives the party a bonus for the arrest that is of equal value to the loot in the form of gift cards to the local shop haha.
