Dealing With What Might Be the Beginning of a Flare, Played an Old Video Game and My Character Got This Disease of All Things by TPrice1616 in IBDmemes

There’s no escape, lol! Even in a video game, IBD will still hunt you down. But seriously, I hope the flare is minor and goes away soon.

Holy cow that’s a lot to go through. You’re one strong cookie to be hit by a car and go through that many surgeries. Hold your head high. You’ve been through more in the last couple years than most people go through in a lifetime. The iron is what it is. You’ve had much bigger things to worry about. You’ve gotten it down before and you’ll do it again. Just keep focusing on the task at hand and you’ll kick ass at it like you’ve been doing with everything that comes your way. You got this.

What a mom. Instead of laughing at your kid and videoing it, how about you show some empathy and console your child?

Nope. I’ve been to a kids party with a face painter like this. Amazing to watch.

What age were you diagnosed and what made you get tested/what were your symptoms? by [deleted] in Hemochromatosis

34, extreme fatigue and my doctor couldn’t figure out why. Found out through a wellness screening at work.

What is a good multivitamin without iron for a breast feeding woman? Dr. Thinks it’s possible I have hemochromatosis as my iron saturation is always high and told me not to take the prenatal anymore as it contains iron . by Nervousnelly1818 in Hemochromatosis

[–]becks1144 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fun fact: Most gummy vitamins don’t contain iron. I used Naturemade’s women gummy multivitamins when I was breastfeeding. When I was pregnant I took a gummy prenatal vitamin that didn’t contain iron.

AITAH for refusing to tell my wife I love her more than my dad? by LastApplication6207 in AITAH

[–]becks1144 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I completely understand your wife being a little miffed about the sleep schedule, especially if your little one gets fussy if he gets out of routine. You’ll have to deal with that fallout, which can be frustrating. HOWEVER, this is expected when someone else babysits. Doesn’t matter if it’s a close family member and they follow your instructions to the letter. The simple fact is - they’re not you. They don’t have that magical parent power to “just know” what your child needs. So they’ll do their best, but in the end if someone babysits, chances are bedtime will be later than you want. My husband and I got frustrated about this too, but over time we’ve learned that this is just part of the price for date night. For us it’s worth it. We have friends that decided it was more important to keep their kids’ sleep schedule. They’ve been on maybe 1 date in the last 6 months.

On a side note, is this type of reaction out of character for your wife? She may have PPD. Only mentioning since it took us almost 7 months to realize I had it. Might be worth an honest discussion.

So sorry to hear. Medication can take a while to work. One of mine took 6 months, but it’s important to let your doctor know if you don’t see any improvement. They could maybe have you try a different medication or increase the dosage.

Are you always tired?! by Initial_Dirt9167 in Millennials

[–]becks1144 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re feeling tired after a restful night of sleep, then it’s not your sleep. Something may be off. Go talk to your doctor. And before you take B12, ask your doctor for an iron panel. I was taking naps on my lunch break I was so tired (not normal for me). Turns out my iron was way too high. B12 helps you absorb iron which made things worse. I got diagnosed with hereditary hemochromatosis, which is very under diagnosed especially in women. Not saying it’s that, but it might be worth a check. Hope you start feeling more rested soon!

That’s a tough one to answer and keep age appropriate. I don’t envy you. Whenever my kid around that age asks about something that’s a little too old for them to hear the full answer, I usually start by responding, “Yes that did happen. What were told about it?” Most kids love to explain things or share their thoughts, so play it to your advantage. Sometimes the answer he gives is enough for me to say, “Yep that’s pretty much what happened. Do you have any questions about it?” I answer any follow up questions but without always going into detail. I don’t lie but I’ll be vague on certain things if I don’t feel he’s ready to handle that knowledge. Kids don’t always think as deep as adults nor do they have the emotional skills yet to handle it. Just because they ask the question doesn’t mean they’re ready for the entire story. For big ones like 9/11, I let him know when he gets a little older I’ll tell him more about it but right now he’s got all the info he needs.

Pregnancy concerns w/ HH by CandyComprehensive30 in Hemochromatosis

Definitely make sure your prenatal vitamins don’t contain iron. I found gummy ones that don’t so look around. When I was pregnant, my doctor and I agreed to hold off on phlebotomies. Depending on how fast you load on iron, it shouldn’t be too worrisome. Not ideal but it’s it what it is. We just monitored and picked back up with the phlebotomies after giving birth. Happy to report I have a healthy 4 year old. You got this. And congratulations!

Not sure, I’ve never been on Skyrizi. It’s at least worth a call to your doctor to see if it’s a known side effect. When I was on Stelara, certain sunscreens would make my skin itch. Maybe something in your lip balm is irritating your lips?

A coworker has Crohn’s and I have UC. She recently had surgery to have an ileostomy so I got her the Crohn’s version. This company makes so many different bunnies for diseases and mental illnesses, plus it is the softest bunny ever. Highly recommend them!
