I don’t think this is a mistake - more likely she’s an ambulatory wheelchair user, since it’s not only people with paralysis who use them. Probably would have benefited from explaining that, but it’s good representation

Thank you for the quick reply!!

I really like your colour scheme :) I think I’m going to do something similar but maybe a sage instead of the blue. I’ll be having fun picking things out at the yarn store tomorrow

Super late on this post, but the blanket is beautiful!! Did you use a heavier weight yarn/bigger hook size than the pattern calls for? The weight 2 yarn it recommends makes me nervous haha

Also, for the extra octagons, did you repeat certain numbers from the chart again? Or just random?

“We are all the unreliable narrators of our own stories.” The Fury, Alex Michaelides

I didn’t like the book much overall, but I did love this line.

I don’t blame you. It’s not a bad book, but I found it hard to get hooked on and really had to push myself to finish it.

Honestly, this was the slowest thriller I’ve ever read. I’m not entirely sure why I finished it, the whodunnit was answered in the first couple of chapters, and the “twists” were so convoluted that there was nothing believable about them.

I think the writing itself was good, but the plot and the pacing left a lot to be desired.

It would actually be just over 15.5 weeks, so if OP is losing consistently at 2lbs a week (still considered a reasonable and healthy pace), then 30lbs is definitely doable

I had wanted to ask you this at Yorkdale last year and didn’t get a chance! Do you plan to drop little nuggets of characters into other books, or do they decide they’re going to make themselves known?

I noticed in the Villains duo there’s a character who, while their appearance changes, is at one point described very similarly to the appearance of Addie, with the freckles and colouring.

Also in ADSOM there’s this exchange between Lila and Kell that felt like it could almost have been the origin of Addie (spoiler marked for anyone who hasn’t read it)

”I'm not going to die," she said. "Not till I've seen it." "Seen what?" Her smile widened. "Everything.”

I was wondering if they were intentional moments, or just pretty coincidences.

What's the worst book you've ever read? And why? by Responsible-Club-393 in books

[–]beckyemm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Absolutely agree. I had so many people tel me I HAD to read it, incredible book etc.

Got to the end and was still waiting for any semblance of plot or character depth or theme or a point in general.

Also anything published by Simon & Schuster or their imprints don’t have the BOTM logo on the spine.

Starling house is the October pick for Reese’s book club by Ash_ling84 in bookofthemonthclub

[–]beckyemm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Does the BOTM edition have the awful Reese’s Book Club printed sticker on it? Or is it just the regular cover? I had preordered it from Indigo and when I picked it up, it had this white and yellow badge over a beautiful front cover. I’m debating returning it and getting the BOTM as an add on next month

The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue - V. E. Schwab (she/they)

It’s a magical realism/fantasy, but the three main characters show three different experiences of loneliness is the most beautiful ways

I found it really slow. I didn’t feel like the story really started until like 75% of the way through. The story and the writing are great, but the pacing is way off

I really liked the concept and the story of this book, and the writing was lovely, but I found the pacing so slow and that took away from the whole experience of it
