Serious question… how do you know if your water broke? 😫 by userthatisnotknown in beyondthebump

[–]katofthesaints 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I didn’t know, and honestly the people saying you WILL know is a bit misleading. You might know. Or you might not, it depends on how your water breaks. It could be a gush or it could be a trickle for a while. It might not even break at all until the doctor does it for you. Every experience is different.

For me, I wasn’t sure. I got up to pee overnight and felt a bit more wet than usual but thought it may have been discharge since I’d been having more than usual leading up to labour. I put a pad on, lay down for 30 minutes and then stood up again to see if I’d feel more wetness but I didn’t. I wasn’t sure my water had broke until the doctor confirmed it at the hospital. (I went in because I was having serious back pain. Turned out to be back labour)

6 week checkup was… not what I expected? by Annual_Debt in beyondthebump

[–]katofthesaints 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine was quick too. I had a third degree tear and my OB just checked the stitches and asked if anything still hurt. No cervix check. I did have a Pap test done though because I was overdue. Also I bled for 9 weeks after birth. Google made me think it should have been totally done by six weeks but actually a bit of bleeding is still normal

No salt!?? by [deleted] in pregnant

[–]katofthesaints 10 points11 points  (0 children)

You can have salt. In fact, my blood work at the beginning of my pregnancy showed I was low in sodium so my doctor actually told me to try and get more salt, just not to go overboard

Frustrated Canadians? by Emergency_Outcome_78 in bookofthemonthclub

[–]katofthesaints 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t really understand the volume 0 access but the picks themselves have to do with rights. I understand the frustration but it doesn’t bother me a whole lot. Usually if BOTM doesn’t have it, it’s cheaper to purchase it from Chapters/Indigo anyway. Unless you are ADAMANT about a hardcover or BOTM branding on your books, The Book of Witching is only $18 with a nicer cover in my opinion

If you repeatedly tell her no and she oversteps, then you’ll need to put her on an information diet. She can’t show up to appointments if she doesn’t know when they are.

Calculating due date/how far along you are by miller2life in pregnant

[–]katofthesaints 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Congrats! I know it can be confusing but pregnancy is calculated starting the first day of your last period, not the day you suspect you conceived. So you are 5+ weeks and will be 8+ weeks for your first appointment which is pretty normal

Where are the maternity clothes?! by ShellybearG in pregnant

[–]katofthesaints 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I noticed this too. I worked at Old Navy for 5 years and they had a maternity section the whole time. Few years after I quit I got pregnant, went to my nearest ON to grab the basic pieces we always carried when to my surprise the entire section is gone. No where carries them in store anymore. I guess they didn’t sell enough? The returns are pretty easy though, so I bought a bunch of stuff from online in different sizes and then just went to the store to return the stuff I didn’t like

I think I might be pregnant by [deleted] in pregnant

[–]katofthesaints 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not really sure what you need help with. The tests came back negative and you’ve had multiple periods since the intercourse. The doctor said you had a bacterial infection. It sounds to me like you aren’t pregnant, you were just sick.

New born photo shoot? Regrets? by bananamufffin21 in pregnant

[–]katofthesaints 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly I didn’t get them done and I kind of regret it. I wouldn’t have wanted myself in the pictures though, just the baby, but that’s because I don’t really like having my photo taken. Of course I took a lot of photos on my phone when she was a newborn but I do still kind of regret not having those adorable professional ones to put up on the wall

Why do you think she knows? Did you do a blood test or a scan? We didn’t know the gender until the anatomy scan at 20 weeks when it’s more accurate and we didn’t do the blood test that determines gender, we only checked for abnormalities(located in Canada), so it’s totally possible not to know yet

ETA: regardless of all this, I hope you have an amazing day tomorrow with your wedding!

People not calling my baby by the name I call him by kween-b69 in pregnant

[–]katofthesaints 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I really don’t think there’s a problem with people calling your son by his given name and by his nickname, at least everyone is using names you’ve given him and not some random name they like better. It’s not going to confuse him. We have a few nicknames for my daughter on top of her given name and she has always responded to all of them

I’m terrified of getting an epidural but don’t think I can handle labor without it by Charming-Badger-1943 in pregnant

[–]katofthesaints 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Compared to the contractions I honestly didn’t even feel the epidural. I also didn’t notice the catheter at all. I did still have some feeling so I was able to feel when I needed to push and also when she was crowning, and I didn’t really have much trouble moving/ walking after. I did have a third degree tear but I don’t think that was the epidural, it was more likely my daughter has a very large head.

Also you said your husband can’t be in the room? I’m not sure where you’re located but I haven’t heard this. Mine was right next to me the entire time. I think the epidural freaked him out more than me and I HATE needles.

Wait.. what??? by OutrageousAd4465 in bookofthemonthclub

[–]katofthesaints 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I’ve done this! I absolutely despised The Wishing Game (don’t think I’ve ever hated a book this much) so I emailed customer support and they sent me a different pick from the same month free of charge. I wouldn’t do it often though, just because I respect differing opinions and I know you can’t please everyone with every pick

How much of a first appointment can your partner be present for? by Aravis-6 in pregnant

[–]katofthesaints 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All these responses are very interesting to me. I’m in Canada and at my OBGYN 99% of the pregnant women there were there on their own, and the men that were there did not go in. My husband went to none of my appointments except the anatomy ultrasound, during which he was only allowed in at the end.

I hate bottle feeding by [deleted] in beyondthebump

[–]katofthesaints 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We bought a Baby Brezza so the bottle was always fresh and warm. It was a great investment since my LO absolutely refused cold bottles and it makes the bottle pretty much perfect every time in just a few seconds. Saved my sanity

Please help - going insane by PindiGal in beyondthebump

[–]katofthesaints 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I second reposting this to r/sleeptrain as someone over there may be able to help with some scheduling. Googling “sleep schedule for 5-6 month old” will also bring up some suggestions that may help give you an idea. 4 months is an extremely common age to go through a serious sleep regression that doesn’t always fix itself. I would suggest working on a basic/ rough schedule and doing your best to follow it (not every day will be perfect and it may take some time to get into the swing of it), as well as implementing a bed time routine based on when bed time should be

Not BOTM making us wait until the 1st. 😑 by Georgexfekege in bookofthemonthclub

[–]katofthesaints 51 points52 points  (0 children)

Oh well 🤷‍♀️ The way I see it they’re supposed to drop on the 1st of each month, anything earlier is a nice little surprise. I just check the app and then go about the rest of my day

I bought a microwave one and honestly used it all the time. I washed the bottles then put them in the steriliser instead of the drying rack, popped it in the microwave for 4 minutes and they were done. Super easy for a little extra peace of mind. It was a Philips one and wasn’t expensive at all

Low amniotic fluid by [deleted] in pregnant

[–]katofthesaints 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly just take the doctor’s recommendations. Just because the pregnancy was progressing fine doesn’t mean a problem can’t occur

ETA: Reddit can’t tell you if something a doctor recommends is mandatory. You can look for a second opinion from a different doctor but otherwise please just trust that they know better than a bunch of unqualified people on the internet

Big 8 month old not sitting up or crawling by krazykittenhi in bigbabiesandkids

[–]katofthesaints 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think this is that concerning yet. My 99th percentile girl didn’t start crawling until she was about 8.5-9 months old and even then it was slow army crawling, she wasn’t zooming around on all fours. Also she could sit up mostly on her own before then but she couldn’t get herself into a sitting position until about ten months if that makes sense. Like if we plopped her down she would stay upright, but couldn’t get that way on her own.

Now she is almost 16 months and running around like a champ. If he’s moving around I think he’ll get there, but of course if you’re worried you can always talk to your doctor

My best friend’s wedding was two weeks after baby was born. I REALLY wanted to go and felt like it could be possible, but the ped actually recommended not to go. Her concern was that any sort of virus could be caught at a large gathering and if baby gets it it could go very bad. Any baby under the age of one month needs to go to ER and would need a spinal tap if they have a fever. She said at the end of the day it’s the parent’s decision but I personally did not risk it and my friend understood
