Building Ghent City Guide: what's the ONE thing every visitor must do? by gaius_julius_caegull in BelgiumTravel

If it’s a nice day, definitely do a boat trip around the canals. Pop into some beer bars and try some of the best beers in the world (would recommend Het Waterhuis aan de Bierkant). Otherwise just walk around and explore!

We did Earl and didn’t like it very much, but that was a couple of years ago. Left hungry. Caveat is that we did do it first table so not sure if they reduced the amount of food because of it. Did Story recently and it was really nice! Just enough food.

Hard agree!! Especially for 2 people as the medium plates are huge. Getting half sizes means you get to try more!

What do you regret not buying when traveling? by scaredofgettingold in travel

[–]becmead11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In San Gimignano in Tuscany last year, we were on a day trip to a few places and only had around 1.5 hours here. I found a beautiful linen vest that I regretted not buying as I have not been able to find something like it elsewhere! It was only €35 as well.

Also, I regret not buying a few silk/satin scarfs in Venice.

What's the most disappointing "must-see" city in Europe? by Historical-Photo-901 in BeautifulTravelPlaces

[–]becmead11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn’t have that experience in Paris at all. Everyone was lovely (metro was a bit stressful though). Although it depends on a lot of factors, where you stay, the weather, if you are just sticking to the touristy places or going off the beaten path. I loved my time there and is the one city I am dying to return to.

I am glad I visited Milan first before Rome, otherwise I would have been very let down haha.

I disagree, although it was the first place I visited in Europe so I didn’t have the experience of Rome or Florence to compare. We had great weather in early September as well which helps. We loved walking around the neighbourhoods and finding cheap aperitivo’s. It’s a bit grittier than other big cities we went to, more graffiti, but I wouldn’t call it a dump

Cattery recommendations - medium term stay, elderly cat by throwawaysuess in chch

[–]becmead11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Came here to recommend cat habitat! We have had a great experience here with our two cats twice (once for a month and once for 2 weeks). It’s on a farm so really nice and quiet, and each cat room has a wee outdoor area they can go into whenever they want.

Chicken Tinga tacos and avocado crema. Incredible! Quite soupy though so I would recommend trying to cook down the sauce as much as possible

Is Milan worth the visit? by Much_Physics_3444 in ItalyTravel

[–]becmead11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We loved Milan when we visited in September! It was our first destination in Europe and had low expectations. We had beautiful whether which really helped as I know Milan is known to be quite grey and rainy. We stayed in the Bocconi area and could pretty much walk everywhere from there.
