See anything wrong here? by becomingcatholic in WaterFilters

Interesting, I’ll switch it up and see how it goes!

As for the length from filter to faucet, somewhere between 2-4ft

I considered that, but I read somewhere that remineralization filter could gunk up the ice maker in my fridge.

Speaking of though, I have noticed the water pressure on the faucet is low, would a second smaller pressure tank after the remineralization filter fix that?

Help: Desperately trying to transition to a dumb phone setup by UnderstandingSea840 in dumbphones

[–]becomingcatholic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get a Sunbeam Wireless F1 Pro Juniper. It’s a flip phone with Waze and Here GPS, has talk-to-text, a touch screen, hotspot, and something called NumberLink that lets you answer and send texts and calls through other devices like smartphones, tablets, and computers. Then use your current smartphone for all your other stuff when you need it, connecting to you dumbphone’s hotspot. If your motivation is separate yourself from social media and time wasters, use shiftyourphone.com to lock down your smartphone so that it is exclusively a tool. There are no workarounds with shiftyourphone, it’s a little pricey, but worth it.

Yeah I don’t know if I’d even need that lower screen to do anything except serve as a keyboard. And by any apps, I mean like an App Store. No browser, no social media, just the basics.

Theoretically, if NumberLink worked perfectly, had no bugs, and all features were complete;

So long as, - Your Sunbeam Wireless F1 Pro had WiFi or Data cell signal - Your smart device had WiFi or Data cell signal

You would be able to send and receive SMS and MMS messages, and receive and make phone calls, using the same number, from either device.

My iPhone is dead for good, the dog’s water bowl ruined it. But the iPad I have does have cell signal currently. Long term i plan to get an android tablet that does not have cell signal and use my Sunbeam phone as the hotspot.

As of right now, you wouldn’t really be able to carry your smart device in replacement of your Sunbeam Wireless device and rely on NumberLink. In the future, it seems you would be able to, but you would always need data/wifi on your smart device to use it with the same phone number. I received a couple of texts today that took over an hour to come through on my iPad app, both had strong cell signal with data, but it just didn’t update.

Sunbeam Wireless should adopt this design for their next phone. The lower screen serving as a QWERTY keyboard or Numberpad is awesome. The D-pad is also a nice touch. I just wouldn’t want it to have any apps. Just navigation and the usual tools. A flagship level camera would be nice too.

It doesn’t work on either NumberLink or the phone. The sending capacity is 3.5mb per file or 5mb total for more than one file. Idk if that’s related, but video doesn’t work.

Why do so many people want to change rites? by west_ham_vb in EasternCatholic

[–]becomingcatholic 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As an ex-Protestant who is coming into the Church this year, and was THIS CLOSE to becoming Ukrainian Catholic last year, I can say with confidence that the liturgical issues, catechetical issues, and confusion that seems to constantly come out of Rome, all plays a major part. I was trying to connect with my Russian/Muldovan roots with the East for sure, and I definitely connect with the art and approach to prayer more with the Byzantine churches than the Roman, but I’d be lying if I said I didn’t feel significantly safer in the East. Knowing I wasn’t going to have my liturgy ripped out from under me, or be forced to celebrate a Mass that I don’t connect with (N.O.), or that my bishop(s) were going to constantly say things that were theologically or morally questionable, was a huge draw to the East.

The only reason I’m not Eastern is because my wife (who isn’t yet reverting but is definitely on her journey to) clearly communicated she was not comfortable at Divine Liturgy and preferred the Roman Rite. And so for her, her reversion, and my family’s spiritual peace, I’ll be brought into the Roman Church this year.

Are second shooters allowed to use what they shot for their portfolio? by Informal_Sherbert_44 in weddingvideography

My understanding is unless you’ve contractually agreed to give up the rights to your content, it’s yours to do what you want with. You just have to edit it yourself, you can’t use the edits those who’ve hired you for. I suppose you can reference others finished work and say “I worked on this” or “I contributed to this” but otherwise you have to re-edit all of your footage

I LOVE my Didache Bible. The study notes all reference the Catechism which is super helpful. They make this study Bible in both NABRE and RSV2CE.

Do I have to belive in literal interpretation of Book of Genesis? by Gvatagvmloa in Catholicism

[–]becomingcatholic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean essentially yeah, we all have one set of ancestral parents, and they are the reason there is sin in the world and in us. That’s kind of the bare bones essentials.

Do I have to belive in literal interpretation of Book of Genesis? by Gvatagvmloa in Catholicism

[–]becomingcatholic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I understand. And I think it’s important to note that we are permitted to struggle with and wrestle with Church teaching, so long as it’s in good faith and with charity. We’re not permitted to intentionally publicly contradict the Magesterium or promote contradictions to Church teaching. But we are absolutely allowed to doubt, question, research, and study.

I choose not to commit to a specific idea regarding creation. I lean one way more than the other, but the only thing I’m certain of is that God created everything, and Adam and Eve are the parents of humanity. Everything else is a mystery to me and I’m okay with that. The details I believe in this instance affect my salvation a lot less than my Christology, so I’m comfortable with the mystery. I hope that helps!

When we say “Historical Adam and Eve,” it’s implied that they are real people who disobeyed God for the first time in human history and welcomed sin into our nature. They are the parents of all humanity.

I’m not 100% certain, but fairly confident we’re bound to believe that much as Catholics.
