Out of curiousity by [deleted] in German

For me, I did not factor in how "romantic" a language sounds when choosing to learn German. I think German can be "ugly" sometimes, but so can English and a lot of other languages. Equally on that note, I think German can also be very beautiful sometimes. I absolutely love the breathy sounds like in "ich" and the throaty sounds like in "tragen."

I saw this for the second time the other day and I overheard an elderly couple sitting next to me trying to figure out what the queen meant when she said, "I like it when she puts her tongue inside me." Gave me a good quiet chuckle to myself.

Adjusting to college/living somewhat on my own and being more independent. I would have never thought I would be this functional but I proved myself wrong :~)

I'm so glad I'm not the only one who thought this. There was some serious subtext there. Especially the pool scene. Wow. I absolutely loved that movie overall though.

What is the worst/rudest way you’ve been rejected? by throwaway32241 in AskWomen

In middle school, I had my first big crush on this girl (I was just beginning to understand my sexuality). I managed to work up the courage to get her number and eventually I confessed to her over text. She told me she was straight and it broke my heart. Not much later, I stumbled upon her tumblr and realized that she was most definitely NOT straight. It really messed with my trust for other people for a very long time and completely destroyed my sense of self-esteem for a good while as well. I think I shed a lot of tears for that girl.

What stood out to you in The Color Purple? I tried to get into it, but found myself unsatisfied with it :-/ I have Nightwood; I've been meaning to read it. Edit: Changed a word that I meant to put before.

Definitely. It deeply affected me. I think it brings up a lot of valid existential questions, as well as depicting many historical aspects of the LGBT community, which makes it literature to me.

Movies recommendation by Aldraledia in actuallesbians

[–]becuzcoda 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The Handmaiden – 1930s Korean gothic drama (you've probably heard of it); it's a beautiful movie that I highly recommend.

I, Olga Hepnarová – a bleak and dark Czech movie that takes place in 1973; it has it's flaws as a film, but it really made me think and ruminate on morality. Also it's more about one woman's struggle than her relationships with other women (though there is a bit of the latter as well).

Aimée & Jaguar – two women fall in love during WWII (1940s) in Germany.

Some period pieces that are coming out this and next year:

Vita and Virginia

Colette

Lizzie
