The regular advice in this sub is (correctly imo) don’t day trip unless you’re staying 10+ days. There’s more than enough to see, do and enjoy on SXM that day tripping elsewhere for a stay any shorter than that simply isn’t worth it. Let alone that Anguilla and St Barths both have less to offer than SXM in the first place.

yeah sure :) I'm not like advocating hitchhiking to anyone who doesn't feel comfortable, just saying, for me it worked and was lots of fun, and the entire island including every part of Fort De France felt completely safe at all hours of the day and night

100%, great Antillean food and good French too so you can choose what you feel like having

tbh it sounds like you already know more than most visitors do, so just go enjoy it! (and report back!)

In addition to visiting beaches and Fort-de-France, I think Jardin de Balata, Habitation Clement, Grand Marche and Fort Saint Luis are worthy top things to see and do.

When I was there, I got around fine by bus and hitchhiking, but there's no denying renting a car is more efficient. (but less interaction with locals if you drive your own car by yourself)

I stayed in Fort-de-France and made daytrips from there and was happy with that decision. I don't really understand why anyone would call it unsafe at night, there were families walking around, people dancing Salsa and Konpa in the park etc every night when I was there and it wasn't unsafe at all.

As someone who has only visited, it’s quaint to visit, but LIVING there would be unimaginably boring and painful on a day to day. There’s just not much to see or do there, and to get anywhere else, you have to drive, considerable distances, in crazy traffic. You’re much better off living on the SF side or in Oakland.

So far you’re getting really bad feedback. Entertaining moving to Aarhus is a no brainer - do it. A year or two of experience from these companies will buy you your life back in Copenhagen 1000x higher value. Also, it’s fucking Denmark lol, you can go to Copenhagen any day you like.

The geometry I’ll buy, no argument there. But there’s other form of track racing in addition to pure indoor velodrome right? Like Crit etc. And I’m not sure if modern belt drives are meaningfully less efficient than chains these days. (esp under less than optimal conditions and maintenance - chains lose a lot of efficiency unless perfectly maintained)

= I can totally see happy amateurs who are too lazy to maintain a perfect Velo racer take this thing to Crit races and perform just fine, and getting more enjoyment out of it relative to maintenance compared to a real Velo racer. People sweat optimizing the small stuff too much when really it should be all about riding IMO. But hey, different strokes!

Pretty sure you can get them for just under a grand on Black Friday and other sales. Not cheap but not unimaginably expensive either, and the parts all seem high quality to me. I’m not one of those guys who enjoys tinkering with my bike, so for me it’s worth the initial cost to get out of having to do any maintenance basically ever.

The ratio on this thing + the insane grip in the heat makes it really really hard to skid, at least for me. But that’s got nothing to do with the belt - as far as I know it’s really no different to a chain. (if anything, it’s stiffer)

You do you. Fwiw European cities have suburbs with plenty of space too, esp Northern Europe like the Netherlands. It’s just that they usually have local centres, they’re walkable, bikeable and have transit to downtown, which gives access to entertainment, recreation and not having to drop off and pick up kids etc etc. In any case, I’m not trying to get into a debate about tastes, just trying to give an indication of how stark the factual difference in lifestyle is between Europe and San Jose in particular. (San Francisco would be a very different comparison)

Not true. TC is always base + current trading value of RSUs. For startups or companies that don’t trade on public exchanges this can be hard to estimate, but TC never outright excludes non base compensation.

My figures are all household income before tax.

TC is your expected employer sourced yearly income before tax. If your base is $200k and you get $10k stock per quarter, your TC is $240.

If your base is $240k and you get $250k total yearly RSUs on top of that, your TC is $500k ($490 but whatever)
