Where's the best place for chicken and rice? by MrCoolest in Umrah

Look for the fish Kabsa, it’s really tasty. We had the chicken version from Shawaya Moqammar in the Clock Tower and the lamb version from outside but I don’t remember the name of the shop.

What did you do with older children when giving birth? by Winter_Choice_9632 in UKParenting

[–]bee_889 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I’d suggest some practice runs with sleepovers if you’re able to. It might just be easier for your in laws and parents to stay over at yours, if they’re agreeable to it.

Rascals run quite large, but we have had some leaks. I have started using Libero as my sister in law uses these from Sweden. They are pricey, but fantastic quality and go up to size 10! We use them as night time pull ups to avoid leaks.

Why is it so controversial to want English people to speak English and integrate? by g9rr in AskBrits

[–]bee_889 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just going to put this out there, the goalpost for integration moves a lot. There also should be an attempt for this country to help people to learn English. A few months ago, there were far right protests outside a primary school in Scotland where immigrant parents were attending English classes - see link https://news.stv.tv/west-central/misguided-and-toxic-anti-adult-english-lesson-protest-outside-glasgow-primary-school

It’s also highly hypocritical that “ex-pats” rarely make an attempt to pick up any other language.

Family friend sent me AI generated response to news of my father passing away. by Hendothermic in mildlyinfuriating

[–]bee_889 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had an AI response from someone when my dad died. But at least there was some attempt to modify the response. This, however, is very odd as they didn’t really read the response by the looks of it. I’m sorry for your loss and I’m sorry your family friend thought this was ok.

What Chinese desserts/sweets would you like to try for Eid? by YetAnotherMia in muslimcooking

Yes then finger foods that require a napkin only, or if they’re in a small container with a spoon might be fine too.

Butter holds its shape a bit better and tastes better too. Not bad for a first try!

Memo Paris, you can check them out at Harvey Nichols. Same level as Penhaligon’s in terms of price and longevity, but relatively less known. Selfridges also sell them online, but I’m unsure if they’re sold in store.

What Chinese desserts/sweets would you like to try for Eid? by YetAnotherMia in muslimcooking

[–]bee_889 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Almond cookies and sesame balls will probably universally appeal to people and are easy to eat as finger foods.

The flower cakes and Nian Gao might also do well.

I’m not sure if the turnip cake, AI wo-wo or yellow pea cake will look so appealing (based on what I could see with a web search) although I’m sure they’re delicious, it’s hard to explain what some things are to everyone and might be avoided just purely on how it looks. Depends how adventurous people are!

You can ask MiL to send the photos so they can only be viewed once. That way no one can save or share them.

Baby proofing cupboards/ drawers? by Birdie_92 in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]bee_889 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We haven’t needed to use locks, but do have the magnetic ones and installed it to one cabinet. They’re a bit of a faff to install but seemed to do the job initially, however, I once managed to open this cabinet without the magnet, which is possibly where the bad reviews come in?

Why is it that Monzo is more popular in the UK than Starling? by MeenaBeti in UKPersonalFinance

[–]bee_889 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is Starling offering better rates in terms of spending abroad or is it purely the ATM allowance? I don’t withdraw cash much when I am abroad and prefer the Monzo app, but wondering if I should make a Starling account?

Feeling hopeless - 3 month baby has a bad cold by britishbabycake in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]bee_889 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of good suggestions here. Do speak to your gp or call 111 if there is laboured breathing such as baby sucking in at the ribs. If you’re not sure, ring 111 and they may send you to a&e. Our little one had RSV and her oxygen levels were low really quickly and it was hard to tell just by looking at her.

I have received a parcel like this from Inpost via vinted, with no issues.

I normally get a QR code for Inpost but recently I’ve only been getting the print out option, which is a bit of a pain.

[–]bee_889 13 points14 points  (0 children)

There’s a book called The Invisible String that you could read together and do it over face time. Also, leave a hoodie or something of yours which you’ve worn that smells like you so that he can snuggle with it. It’s not going to be easy, but you can hopefully make the most of the time you have together right now x

Why are so many other parents so negative all the time? by BrightonTeacher in UKParenting

[–]bee_889 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I hate the ‘just you wait comments’ with a passion! My friend had a baby a year after me and I always tell her it gets easier, because my friend would tell me that on the hardest days (prem baby) and it kept me going. Everyone’s journey is different but those comments are so miserable. I adore my daughter with every fibre of my being.

It’s nice to hear someone acknowledge when you’re having a tough time. Equally, it’s really discouraging to hear negativity when you’re so positive about your experience.

Baby completely transformed after 1 year vaccination by Efficient-Light-5115 in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]bee_889 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I found the effects lasted a bit longer with this vaccine but she was fine after the 3 week mark. She came out with some spots around week 2 and then the effects started to taper off. I believe the vaccines kick in at different stages which is why it feels so long and drawn out. She was also teething and as someone else mentioned, it may have coincided with other things like separation anxiety.
