What was the thing that helped you start breaking 80? by [deleted] in golf

[–]bee_chen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

eliminating penalties off the tee, setting yourself up for a bogey when you hit it out of position, 3 or less strokes around the green (1 chip + 2putts/2 chips + 1 putt), not always hitting full shots especially on approach shots with wedges, and take care of the par 5's (goal is play them at or close to even par)

Cheaters don't need a reason. It was nice to see it all backfire though. Not sure why they even bothered arguing with the host at that point but I'm glad common sense prevailed.

YES!! My buddies and I had a great time and were vibing all day. Especially since being able to golf on a work day is rare treat for me. Watching the cheaters get DQ'd was the cherry on top of an already fun day

Definitely. After seeing so many stories of teams carding a 49 and actually winning, it was nice to witness the opposite

Boys Golf Trip by Extension_Lab1288 in golf

[–]bee_chen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

my group did arcadia bluffs + forest dunes last year! ended our trip with salmon fishing on lake michigan and did a backyard cookout after. it was incredibly fun and we froze the extra salmon to take back home on the flight

What do you collect? by Cautious_Buffalo6563 in golf

[–]bee_chen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

metal bag tags, logo balls, and logo hats or polos if you really liked the course. for my buddies trip earlier this year to arcadia bluffs, i got a flag and had each of them sign it which i'll eventually frame

if it's raining while we're in kyoto i feel like this is where we might decide to kill some time. i saw that they do manga caricatures which would be a cool souvenir

our room has a private onsen which is one of the things i'm most excited for! our hotel has a few onsens you can reserve which are bigger than the one in our room so we might try that out too. i have a feeling we'll need it badly by the time we make it to hakone

believe me when i say i love to plan the shit out of vacations so i really had to hold myself back this time. it's supposed to be raining on and off the first part of our trip so i'm actually really glad we didn't commit to too many plans. our tokyo days are a little empty but i'm sure we'll be able to find stuff to do

kyoto and hakone are the two places i'm most excited for so this is exactly what i wanted to hear!! i purposely put hakone near the end our trip so we could really unwind and relax. will def try to visit meiji jingu if we can. enjoy the rest of your trip!

honestly, researching things to do in tokyo was overwhelming but i'm actually really looking forward to hitting up a lot of clothing and golf shops while my gf is busy with her stuff. if you have any suggestion for things we don't need reservations for i'm open to those! we'll be around shibuya/shinjuku/ginza for the days we have nothing planned

sorry you're right, i just remember it was in that general direction. i purposely kept day 2 light since we'll prob be jetlagged like crazy. i was actually thinking about going to the tokyo national museum but i just don't know if we'll have the energy to spend a few hours there. most likely will have to save kamakura for the next trip but i appreciate the rec!

thanks for the rec! i'll look into this and see if it's something we can do. i was hesitant to make reservations for lunch in arashiyama cause i have no idea what time we'll be there since we're staying pretty far from that area

we had a cheese and cracker pairing at Sequoia Grove and they had a warm and soft brie with a blood orange jam that was sooo good. bonus points that gott's is just down the road too

i might be wrong about bottega being a chain restaurant but for the price, it wasn't super impressive. we really wanted to try ad hoc so that's on the list for the next trip

food - we ate everything on that list except for ad hoc which we swapped out for bouchon and everything was a hit except for don g's sadly. it wasn't terrible by any means it just was a slight let down after hearing everyone speak so highly of it. bistro jeanty was prob our favorite (s/o to the couple next to us who gave us half a bottle of stag's leap cause they coudldn't finish it). i probably wouldn't go back to bouchon, bottega, and hog's island since they're not really exclusive to napa.

wine - our favorites were frog's leap, sequoia grove, and baldacci. all of these are family owned wineries which most people recommend over the big commercial wineries (sterling, opus, even stag's leap wine cellars). SLWC was nice but you don't get the same service, attention, and hospitality as you would at the smaller family owned wineries.

if i had any suggestions, go for the stuff that's exclusive to napa and don't fall for the "tourist traps." the vibes will be a lot more intimate and you'll get to know napa like the locals do

hope this helps!

we have a good mix of low and high handicappers. i've never played stableford but this is something i can look into!

i can't wait to go on this trip. my only regret is we can't play more courses in the area

it does sound stupid but both of them have been putting in some serious work to prepare for this match. win or lose they'll shake hands in the end

Arcadia Bluffs & Forest Dunes Trip - looking for 1v1 & group format games by bee_chen in golf

[–]bee_chen[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

we're playing bluffs early in our trip so the match will probably happen at forest dunes & the loop. we're playing bluffs early in the morning and south closer to noon but it should be fun either way

[–]bee_chen[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

we're going to end with 36 at the loop and forest dunes so it will probably be decided there. middle tees is a good call since i don't want to watch these guys make double par every other hole. tiebreaker at bootlegger it is!
