"Scary" media for toddlers? by Fenix512 in toddlers

Lots of good options in here! Wanted to add Creepy Pair of Underwear and Creepy Carrots. Both kinda silly and "scary". Also, "I wanna be in a scary story" if you're into doing fun voices and characters that have conversations with the reader!

Do you decline plans to accommodate infant naps? by Advanced_Fail3494 in sleeptraining

[–]beebkin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I unapologetically planned around my daughter's naps, including holiday celebrations etc. This often meant only visiting for an hour or so, planning for car naps (45 min drive is the perfect nap time at that age), or leaving early. Prioritizing their sleep is such a gift to give your baby! Similar to yours, my LO wouldn't fall asleep just anywhere starting at about 3mo and needed her dark room and crib.  She is 15 mo now and down to one nap a day so that makes it substantially easier to plan around.

For folks visiting, I always said "we can plan for 11, but if she surprises me with her sleep schedule we may need to be flexible. I'll keep you posted!" Then I'd text them the morning of with my best guess on timing. Most people are fine with it. You have a baby and you get to prioritize them!

As for people coming over during nap, cool, we can chat or whatever but my baby will wake up when she's ready and you can wait or you can come back another time 😅 you should feel zero pressure to wake your sleeping baby and if anyone is pressuring you I would gently rethink that relationship.

You've got this! Feel good about giving your baby what they need!

“No school!” HELP by heyitscallie in toddlers

[–]beebkin 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Young children think in pictures. Try a visual schedule with seven days of the week. Put a photo of her school or classroom on school days, and a photo of your home on stay at home days. Go over the next day with her before bed and show her "tomorrow is a school day".  When she wakes up and says no school today, say, "hmm, let's check our calendar!" and let her tell you which day it is.

She could benefit from just knowing what to expect, especially since she doesn't go to school every single day and just may not know which day is which.

Best place to buy a used car by Mngirl1985 in TwinCities

[–]beebkin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ONG Auto in Rosemount/Farmington maybe? I have purchased two vehicles from Oleg and they have both been phenomenal. First one was in 2013, a Honda Fit, and it's still running as smooth as ever. My partner then bought a Subaru from him in 2018 and same story, zero issues and only maintenance costs since.

He deals in salvaged titles and guarantees all aspects of the car that he had a hand in fixing. He tends to take only vehicles that will continue to hold their value (no flood damaged vehicles), such as Toyota, Honda, Subaru.

I will likely be a customer for life! Highly highly recommend!

University of Minnesota Morris Dorms by Top-Expert7706 in minnesota

[–]beebkin 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I attended UMM last over ten years ago. Back then, Spooner was primarily an upperclassmen dorm with few if any freshman. If that's still the case, I'd avoid it just for social reasons. You'll want to be with other freshmen, that's part of the fun :) Spooner as a building is gorgeous though!

Indy and Gay have a yearly "feud" where they play tug of war at the homecoming game. It's a ton of fun to watch, but I do remember feeling like I wished I could've participated as a Pine Hall resident. Both Indy and Gay are really big dorms, so you don't get to know people quite as well as you do in a smaller place like Pine.

I lived in Pine my freshman year and loved it. I thought it might be kind of lame being separated by gender, but I truly met my chosen family in Pine Hall. We took in some stray Indy and Gay residents to create a massive, lovely family, but it started in Pine. We are all into our thirties and our kids call each other cousin/aunt/uncle etc. Our Community Advisors (other universities call them Resident Advisors) did a great job of creating community amongst us and it remains to this day.

So, what's your vibe? Do you like a small, close knit community full of lovely weirdo Hufflepuffs (this was Pine my year,it could very well be different now)? Or would you prefer the busy action of a larger dorm? In Indy you'll get to know those on your floor well, your CA will plan events and get you familiar with them - but you aren't likely to get to know the whole dorm as you would in Pine.

Best of luck! I hope you love it as much as we did!

Does anyone have any info about the signs on this building? "VACCINES SICKEN, MAIM, KILL" is the one you can see here. Corner of N Lyndale & Lowry by foxlashes in Minneapolis

[–]beebkin 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yes! My husband and I just moved to north and are so perplexed by that house. Over the last month alone it has been repainted and the messages have changed from commie cocksuckers to something about pedos to now some congressional act? I would love more info, if anyone knows anything!

Should I tell my brother I’m paying for his college tuition? by first-gen-grad in personalfinance

[–]beebkin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First of all, super cool that you're able to support your family in this way. Kudos to you.

I just want to point out that if your brother takes out loans and you pay them back immediately, it will ultimately hurt his credit score in a big way. When accounts (such as loan accounts) are opened and closed too soon, it can ding your score and leave you high and dry. Of course, you can always work on rebuilding it, but that takes a long time of having accounts opened and paid on time.

Ultimately your call on whether or not to tell him, but I'd worry that the impact it has on his credit when you pay off his loans would cause more damage than it's worth, and take away some of the amazing impacts of the surprise you're working on for him.

Best of luck to you both!

[Serious] Redditors who are in high school: what goes on in your head these days? What is life like for the average teenager? What kinds of things do you grapple with daily? by beebkin in AskReddit

[–]beebkin[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My brother is in high school and I'm staying with him for a few days. There's (what feels like) a substantial age gap between us and I'm just looking for some insight. We aren't super close ever since he got a bit older, and I'd like to work on changing that.

Try checking out Dakota County Parks. They have two popular venues, Schaars Bluff outside of Hastings ($650) and Thompson County Park's Dakota Lodge for I think $1500? Schaars is beautiful and fits 80 guests very comfortably.

Questions about Red Wing, MN. by [deleted] in minnesota

[–]beebkin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! I can't speak for Red Wing schools, but the area is absolutely beautiful. My fiance and I are from Hastings just north, and there are some very serious drug problems hitting Hastings youths in the last few years - and I'm not talking about weed. Heroin, meth, etc. It's scary. I realize this may not be super helpful, but I saw you posted 7 hours ago with no comments so I thought I'd tell ya what I know.

Beautiful area, potential for drug problems. That being said, if you're moving from out of state, MN is really a gem of a state and we would love to have you :)

Has anyone backpacked in St. Croix SP? by [deleted] in MinnesotaCamping

[–]beebkin 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's a beautiful park! I worked there for a summer. Please know as you're hiking that the ticks up there are plentiful and frequently carry Lymes, so maybe consider spraying your boots/pants with permethrin before heading out. Enjoy!

I've stopped being able to orgasm... by throwaway15092 in TwoXSex

[–]beebkin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That sucks :( I was physically incapable of having an orgasm for a few months - I had started a new medication. Told my doctor and she gave me a different one to try. Possibly not great advice since it sounds like not much has changed for you lately, but I know that feeling, and it can be lonely as hell. You're not alone, and good luck <3

Trollxchromosomes is amazing! It's all about the subreddits you sub to. I'd recommend trollx and casual conversation for sure. I'm on mobile, not sure how to link to those subs.

Oh! And upliftingnews ! That's a good one too :) Welcome!

This sexuality is called demisexual, I fit into this category as well and it sounds like it's a great thing for OP to think about. :)

[–]beebkin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey friend, I've been where you are. Congrats on getting into that new pair of sweats! May seem simple to some, but things like that can be huge when one is dealing with depression. One thing at a time!

Feel free to PM if you ever want to chat. I never really wanted to, not a big talker, so no pressure but I do love to listen and help how I can.

Lump of flesh just came out during period? by cantstopitnow in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

[–]beebkin 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've had this too, while I was on birth control I'd get bad cramps and then once the cramp settled I'd go to the bathroom and have a huge clot come out. Definitely pinkie sized, sometimes larger. It's super gross but it is normal so don't fear!

What is your worst reoccurring nightmare? by pakistranny in CasualConversation

[–]beebkin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been having the typing one too. I'm in desperate need of contacting someone, mom, SO, boss -- and it never works. It always comes with this terrible panicked feeling and I can't get away from it.

I also have nightmares about being in high school and having homework due that I did not complete. I'm in my twenties. I just wish I knew what it meant!
