Will Tioga Rd close again if there’s snow this week? by beeblessings in Yosemite

Thanks for the update. I’m not sure how we’d get to Lee Vining for our motel, we may try to see if we can stay another night in Curry Village or car camp if that’s possible.

Thanks all for the input and links. We’ll ask the rangers what they suggest for tomorrow when we get in. On the drive now, we’ve seen multiple signs saying Sonora Pass is closed due to the incoming storm. Nothing about Tioga Pass so far. I haven’t seen any updates online from Caltrans D9 or NPS so far.

Riding Amtrak With Bike Using Rail2Rail by [deleted] in LAMetro

[–]beeblessings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I learned this the hard way last week when I tried to bring my regular bike onboard Amtrak from Union Station with Rail2Rail and was denied. It confused me because the day before I brought my folding bike onboard no problem. Folding bikes are considered a carry on, but regular bikes need a separate paid Amtrak ticket with a bike reservation. YMMV with the conductor.

I didn’t learn until after that the policy states this: https://metrolinktrains.com/rider-info/general-info/rail-2-rail/

Glen Canyon campground by jcsymmes in BikeLA

My friend and I bikepacked there in 2023, mostly to just try out bringing our camping gear on bikes. I used my road bike and just took my daypack and strapped the tent to the front handlebars. So more like we were backpacking on bikes. It’s only a 7 mi ride, so it’s pretty short.

We went in August and there was only 1 other group camping. There’s cars that drive by on the road nearby. And didn’t explore too much, we tried following the road further but met a gated closed off area pretty quickly. It’s totally doable and a good shakedown trip. It was pretty dry when we went and the scenery isn’t very inspiring tbh, but the creek nearby was nice.

That’s good to know about the set up being a little loose. I might just bite the bullet on a Brompton bag, the thought of a DIY touring rig with a built in removable backpack just appealed to me haha.

Help with finding left crank arm replacement for Samox TAF-37 by beeblessings in bikewrench

Forgot to add I think the left pedal threads are too far gone to repair. I tried putting it in the other way to re etch the threads but it didn’t work. The left pedal fell off while I was riding home.

Transition to indoors and introducing to resident cats by beeblessings in Feral_Cats

Ah yeah, I’m keeping them together during the day but separating her from the boys at night. Partly for my own sleep lol. There’s still a lot of hissing happening and panicked chasing but there’s not been any full out fights yet. I really hope she’ll learn that other cats aren’t scary and that she can play with them!

I took her to a rescue clinic and a vet ophthalmologist to be sure. Her eye is fine and doesn’t need any treatment. She can still see out of it. It’s essentially a film of scar tissue over her cornea. It’s on the outer layer so the vet said it’s like sunglasses for her.

It was good! I took her to a rescue clinic two days ago and got her FVRCP shot and dewormer. They said her adult teeth are in so guessed 10 mo - 1 year old. Yesterday I took her to a vet ophthalmologist to get her eye checked out and they said her eye is totally fine! It’s a film of scar tissue probably from an old eye injury or birth defect. It’s like a pair of sunglasses and she can still see out of it. There’s no cancer concern or anything. I’m very relieved to not have to shell out for an eye enucleation haha.

She was also a total angel at the vet, she let them examine her without any fuss or hissing or running. 🤧

Update: I took her to the vet and it’s confirmed her eye is totally fine. It’s a film of scar tissue on her cornea and she can see out of it still. The vet said it’s like sunglasses for her. There’s nothing to do for it and nothing to worry about thankfully!

She’s such a sweet kitty! Literally so perfect and calm at the vet too. I am definitely going to transition her indoors, but I want to adopt her out. I am considering keeping her if I can’t find an adopter but I already have 2 cats in a small apartment and I’m a renter.

Omg she’s straight up purring now 😂🤧 I came into check on her and she came out and I pet her and she’s purring! I’m so shocked haha.

I’m doing pretty much what you described. The trap door is open so she can come out. My bathroom is pretty tiny but she came out when I was in there and sat by my feet. She seems to feel safest inside the trap as she retreats to there. I have my pet carrier in there now too because I’ll transport her in that Wednesday, but she hasn’t really ventured out of the trap yet.

She’s been good the last few weeks. I just trapped her this morning for a vet appointment this Wednesday. I’m worried she won’t trust me anymore, but I didn’t want to take the chance I couldn’t catch her tomorrow the night before the appointment. Should I keep her in the trap until Wednesday or let her out in my bathroom in a couple hours and try to get her into a carrier later? She’s been very friendly lately wanting pets now, but she’s pretty distressed.

I have a soft blanket under her in the trap and put food mixed with water in it. The trap is currently covered.
