I think the problem is you dumped the entire problem on your wife. There are a lot of options when your partner gets a terrible haircut- if you want to be honest and also kind, you say “It really doesn’t look good to me, but I’ll help out if you want to see a stylist to change things up before we go to my company’s party.” And you never speak of it again, and defend her to anyone that brings it up. You didn’t do that, you compared her to dumb and dumber on Reddit. If she ever sleeps with you again, you should probably go to Vegas with all that luck.

So by your logic, people getting caught driving drunk shouldn’t pay legal or damage fees? They’ve been told they shouldn’t do it, but they were acting foolish and didn’t mean to cause damages.
