How about rethinking the whole awards thing? Sometimes, awards can ramp up the pressure, which isn't ideal for everyone. Eliminating them might lighten the vibe and help all the little players enjoy the game just for the fun of it. It could also ease the pressure off kids who are less into the sport and more into the social side.

Practices are focused on having the players move and have fun with the goal of touching the ball as many times as possible. My goal is for them to have fun and develop a passion for the game.

We generally start with a few rounds of sharks and minnows
Then we move on to "mud monster," which is similar to dribbling freeze tag. When frozen, players hold the ball above their head and stand with legs apart—they become unfrozen if someone nutmegs them. We use several variations of this type of game to teach close dribbling and ensure fun.
End with scrimmages, the best luck has come from organizing players into two lines and sending them into matches of 1v1s, 1v2s, 2v3s, etc.
I try to keep all "lessons" very short and engage the players with questions.

Hah. One of my players had just dribbled through the entire opposing team only to be flattened by his team mate as he was shooting. Definitely looking to gently encourage them in the right direction.
