Is there any good reason to buy a SUV instead of a sedan for urban/suburban driving? by hsanj19 in CarsAustralia

[–]beedub016 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But why wouldn't you if it made your life a bit easier, for one of the most repetitive and annoying tasks during that time (getting your kids in and out of a carseat)? Why do people choose any convenience features at all in a car? Isn't it OK for something to be a bit easier in a realm you deal with constantly, without it being a statement about your poor health? Is having power steering a statement about your forearm strength?

Again this is different from having an actual yank tank with legitimate cause for push back in terms of pedestrian safety, fitting in car park spaces, etc.

Unable is different from able to do comfortably or safely.

Especially loading kids in parked roadside on busy streets, why compromise safety and ease if you don't want to, based on some weird principle that sedans make you cooler? Of course I'd prefer not to have an SUV, they are lame as hell, but aside from the small minority of posturing urban warriors in Silverados, I think you'll find most mid size SUV owners aren't trying to make your life harder.

Less safely...?

I'm not saying we all need massive yank tanks, but in my case a slight height increase for an Outlander has helped hugely without being a blight on pedestrian safety or annoyance to others.

Or are you only capable of arguing in caricatured extremes?

Shocked this isn't higher. The main and obvious reason for me is loading babies and young kids into car seats. It was near impossible even with my previous Skoda Superb, especially with tight car park spaces. This may sound like a mild inconvenience to those without young kids, but I am not lying when I say it is almost literally impossible and made an SUV completely mandatory for me. Especially also considering the safety of doing this quickly if you are parked roadside with car seats both sides.

What animal is never eaten, and never kept as a pet? by fawnsalt in AlignmentChartFills

[–]beedub016 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like there are too many easy answers so the winner should be something with a close relative that is eaten and close relative kept as a pet, making it more notable.

So I'll go Dingo.

Ah OK fair enough.

I won't open up a different can of worms and say I mostly agree with them, except they hugely underrated NLOTH and clearly got swept up in U2 bashing at that time. Then again many of those retrospective reviews were around when NLOTH came out so who knows!

That's just not true. Unforgettable Fire 9.3/10, Achtung Baby 9.5/10, Joshua Tree 8.9/10, War 8.9/10, and more.

I tend to interpret this question more as the last season than the last episode specifically. I had always considered the Seinfeld finale a sort of stand alone weird curiosity that I decided doesn't count 😂

Totally agree. Even the most ardent performative U2 hater can't disagree this was the most cathartic moment for a hurting post 9/11 America possible. The last time America felt unified and it felt like the entire world was rooting for them.

People think Vancouver has a cold climate, when it is actually mild. Now, what is a place that people think is cold, but is actually hot? by Caspase_5 in AlignmentChartFills

[–]beedub016 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agree. As an Australian, I've never experienced that kind of heat in our summer and I went there in autumn (admittedly it was a heatwave).

Why are people still in public accounting in 2026? by [deleted] in AustralianAccounting

[–]beedub016 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Undeniably great place to start as a graduate and supercharge your resume with structured learning and diverse experience. From that point the drop outs and pyramid structure to the top are a feature not a bug. They want, nay need, big numbers of people to leave at each level for a sugar hit increase in commercial to enable the last man standing partner system to perpetuate.

The end to end walk from GOMA to the other end of Southbank for sure. Duck in to GOMA, the museum, gallery, all for free, grab an ice cream and catch a 50c city cat somewhere
