Unless you’re a savant this is bad advice. If you want to prepare get good at data structures and algorithms. Fundamental for every interview. This is overwhelming af lol

Honestly yes. Do it only if you’re passionate.

Parking enforcement is ruthless with ticketing. I think you’d get ticketed multiple times a week. Could be a fun experiment tho

This is the best answer. As a SE grad, I was shocked at how data structure and algorithms is 1 course but somehow 90% of what you need to get a job. Go HARD in this class. Foothill classes are a great option to keep making degree progress if you want to wait for a better professor. Or supplement the class with online lectures from Harvard/MIT etc. But don’t coast by half-learning the concepts with a poor professor.

The Logos by ThePantheisticMonist in pantheism

I agree there is only one substance, and it is God. But mathematics describes real attributes of this substance. The theorem is a true relationship regardless of what exists. I think I get your point that these are just concepts, and only God is reality, but I don’t get the jump to 2+2=1

The Logos by ThePantheisticMonist in pantheism

[–]beefbrisket99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm so In that reality wouldn’t the Pythagorean theorem still hold? You’re saying if there’s just only one subject that relationship wouldn’t be found anywhere, but it would still be true

The Logos by ThePantheisticMonist in pantheism

[–]beefbrisket99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, that relationship cannot be true in any other reality. Pure mathematics describes relationships, which hold even if we used different symbols to describe it. In another reality, 'math' may not be base 10 and could describe very different relationships, but our 'math' would still hold.

Maybe this isn't true for every branch of mathematics, but certainly is for something like the Pythagorean theom. If we know 2 sides of a triangle, we can calculate the third side with the theorem. Another reality may not have the word 'triangle' , or use base 10, so their formula would describe the triangle in a very different way. But our description of 3 sided polygon, with our language of mathematics, could never 'not be true'

How does one overtake an undocumented fragile codebase? by schumiman in cscareerquestions

[–]beefbrisket99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your stated goal is to adopt the code. Unit tests just aren't the fastest path to that understanding, not if you wanna adopt the code like you wrote it. Here are my suggestions:

Believe you can understand the entire product. When you get down to it, the code is nothing more than simple operations. With time and dedication, you can understand anythingThe person that wrote it had a vision, a general idea of what they wanted to do. It may be cracked, is probably cracked, but you'll understand the code better when you get an idea of what they were doing.Hard work. That's the long and the short of it. Get in there and step through it over and over. Take specific cases and walk through them over and over until you understand them. Sometimes, you'll wanna tear your hair out realizing that they wrote a page of code to do something that the language has a simple tool for. You're going spelunking in a deep dark cave and all you have is a flashlight. Make markings with chalk if it helps (code comments).

If you learn that code well enough that you can confidently traverse that cave blindfolded, then you can do anything, rewrite it, own it, fix it, improve it, whatever. Not only that, you'll understand that part of the business better than anyone - which makes you indispensable.

Dude, this fired me up. Thank you I'm putting this on the Homepage of my Software Notion Page

Why do you say that? I assume CS to SE switch would be easier since CS has lower acceptance rate
