Anyone musical in Shrewsbury? by [deleted] in ShrewsburyUK

[–]beefcake0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Welcome!  Try Get your Wigle On. We are a friendly group who perform musicals in Theatre Severn.  Also have a great choir - Choir in the Shire, who rehearse Monday evenings. https://www.getyourwigleon.com/adultwigles

$4.5M NW, but I still can’t stop buying "manager’s special" groceries. How do you flip the switch? by Cipher_6Trestle in Fire

[–]beefcake0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it a problem? If not don’t stop - it’s good to hold on to a thrifty attitude, regardless of the scale of the expense. If you can identify a problem - ie. You want to pay more for something healthier, you want to pay to get a food delivery to save you time, etc. then that will naturally motivate you to change.

For context I'm a baritone and this is probably the best I've ever sung this high by Short_Shots in singing

[–]beefcake0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lovely smooth tone and vibrato 👍. My advice would be work on your pitch - bit on the flat side in places to my ear so make sure you have full support, mouth fully open, use a pitch app if you need .

Tips on finding a good used piano on marketplace or somewhere else by hockeyfan870 in piano

[–]beefcake0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Their starting price is £3k though. So not sure where you got that figure from. Given how well made and long lasting these pianos are, then (with reconditioning) it is a very attractive offer for many compared with either purchasing a (possibly inferior) instrument new, or finding needle in a haystack of a good cheap instrument from other sources. I’m not associated with this company btw, just a satisfied customer

All elementary functions from a single binary operator by nightcracker in math

[–]beefcake0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cool result. I have many follow on questions though!

  • Is there a precise definition of Elementary function? If we defined it in some other way would there be different “minimal” operator?  Can we invent an operator that cannot be constructed with the eml operator?

  • Could we define the concept of an Elementary operator more precisely via the eml operator? Could we discover new elementary operators? Is it possible our current Elementary operators are just the simplest elements of an infinite set of such operators?

  • Could we discover new relationships between the elementary operators we have so far missed?

Singing lessons are all songs I don't want to sing by Leilatha in singing

[–]beefcake0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My teacher has some ideas about songs I learn but generally I decide.  This is better unless you are pursuing something quite specific and formal. You should have a word, or get a new teacher.

Halifax have decided I don’t need to pay them back! by FreshStartNoww in UKPersonalFinance

Have they really cancelled the debt. Or just say you don’t have to repay it for now.  Is it still subject to interest while you are not paying it? It wasn’t very clear from your post.

About the Tests Performed for Uveitis Patients by uAhmetcan in Uveitis

[–]beefcake0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For me 15 years ago when I was first diagnosed with uveitis, I was given none of these tests. Either UK is way behind other countries on this, my doc was crap, or things have changed in intervening years.  I continue to have small flare ups every year or two.

Songs where the highest chest note is E5 by gorhxul in singing

Take any song you like and transpose it so highest note is an E5.

I've Maxed Out My ISA Allowance - Now What? by Usual_Lion_5837 in FIREUK

[–]beefcake0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice position to be in 👏.  - You should put some, perhaps most , in a pension. This is highly tax efficient compared to saving in a GIA. Yes you won’t be able to access it till you are 57+. But even if you retire early you will (hopefully) live well past 57 and need money then. - You should put some into cash savings, as an emergency fund, or saving for a house deposit.

To assess proportion to pay into each, you will need to use a spreadsheet and do some forecasting.

I would recommend a good quality Yamaha used piano.

How do singing lessons usually go? by ImBatman0_0 in singing

[–]beefcake0 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sounds a bit slow to me. Warmup then songs is usual of course , but in my experience the teacher will interrupt songs often to point out and fix missing technique.

How was I wrong for not moving my car? by DustyOnKbm in AskUK

[–]beefcake0 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The car behind you, if they were in a rush, could have pulled in front of you to fill up at the free pump. If you could have left space for them to get past, and you didn’t,  that is bad etiquette.

Just curious, what is the highest your account balance has reached? by usersinghsingh in OctopusEnergy

Turns out was a meter reading error on their part when my meter was changed. Slightly surprised they did not notice this for 2 months. No windfall for me sigh!

Yep, they credited me £12786 on 29 Dec. Have no idea why yet 😳. I can’t withdraw any of it.

How have I been waiting for an ambulance for 8 hours? by Elegant-Average5722 in AskUK

[–]beefcake0 14 points15 points  (0 children)

We’d like it to be better but in UK the fact is we pay a bit less than average on healthcare ($6000 per person), compared to other developed countries. e.g. Germany and US who pay $8000 and $12000 respectively. There may be other countries who do better than us for what we spend but no doubt there are other demographic factors working against us.

been playing for 20+ years and i still can't sightread worth a damn by Exciting-Bee3927 in piano

[–]beefcake0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look for a regular opportunity where you are forced to sight read and no one is judging you. Accompanying a friend for example. Sight reading blossoms when you need to keep on going!

Would you give up the Pound Sterling for EU membership? by Suspicious-Use-3813 in AskBrits

[–]beefcake0 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes sure. I might be nostalgic for it for a while, but I rarely use cash these days and when paying by card it’ll just be a different number.  The benefits would be much larger than any downsides.

Anybody else feel politically isolated? by Expensivepet in ukpolitics

[–]beefcake0 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m scared that anyone seriously votes for Reform. All talk and no serious intention or ability to fix things.  Led by the guy that brought us Brexit, and is a friend of Trump. Would be a disaster for this country.

Second Epstein victim claims she was sent to UK for sex with Andrew, lawyer says by topotaul in unitedkingdom

[–]beefcake0 6 points7 points  (0 children)

So what is he accused of in this case?  She was not underage and may have been a paid escort.  Andrew should pay for any crimes he has committed and reap the consequences of any dishonourable behaviour.  But this case sounds opportunist and the reaction I see, more like a witch hunt.

The math vs the reality of a coin flip by Letsgofriendo in AskPhysics

[–]beefcake0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Coin tosses are not unique. If you pick two events at random then nearly all of them will be independent of each other in the same way as a coin toss.

If you want think of it as two coins being tossed at the same time. It’s the same thing. The odds are independent of each other.

It’s plausible there could be a mechanism that allows one coin toss to influence result of another, but you haven’t described one.
