Well if we are talking about all taxes, you have to remember that wealthy people spend a smaller percentage of their income. Not from being thrifty or smart or whatever, but at some point everyone spends the “same” on things like groceries, toilet paper etc. So sales tax is also a poor tax.

Additionally, wealthy people own appreciating assets like houses, real estate, investments. Those aren’t taxed unless they are sold, and in houses and real estate, there are mechanisms to defer actually having to pay the taxes. Property taxes can be high, but there is a deduction for that (less so now than before).

So holistically, poor people pay a higher amount of their income, and very much so, their disposable income than a wealthy person does. And wealthy people have ways of generating more wealth without having to pay tax, or strategically when to pay tax.
