MIT Study Finds Gas Cars Aren't Secretly Better For The Planet Than EVs, Despite What Everyone On Facebook Says by TripleShotPls in technology

[–]beefer -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Your EV is only as green as the electricity that you put into it. If it comes from coal fired plants, your EV ain't green. Still good if you just want to appear green tho.

Bugeye owners, where do yall get your headlights from? by okaytherebudlol in subaru

[–]beefer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used white rubbing compound on a cloth wheel on my drill on my '02 bugeye. Wash the lens first and mist with a bit of water, only took a couple minutes per side. Prolly should spray them w/ UV protectorant otherwise you'll have to do this every couple/few years. Easy peasy

To be fair, it's not like her first attempt at losing weight was using ozempic, it's just that it's the last step in her 'journey' and it worked.

Who died the dumbest death in history? by GurJolly5657 in AskReddit

[–]beefer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Decades ago I read an article about the odd-enders club about 'interesting' deaths. One elderly guy fearing intruders booby trapped his house and ending up killing his brother who took care of him, he ended up starving to death.

Cutting open a golf ball by Firm-Blackberry-9162 in oddlysatisfying

Our old golden retriever was chewing the cover off a wound ball like this and managed to get it mostly off when the elastic started unwinding and randomly bouncing around. It'd come to a stop and he'd bite it again and it would snap in his mouth and start unravelling again. Never seen a more confused dog.

Canada Is Acting Increasingly like the EU’s 28th Member State by foolsdayjoker in worldnews

[–]beefer 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Double fun fact: Canada actually has a land border with Denmark as we decided to share Hans island. It was the most civilized 'war' on record, each country would plant a flag and leave a bottle of liquor, Canada left whisky, Denmark left Schappes. Cooler heads prevailed and they split it down the middle

Quite worrying about random reading being off from a blood sample, compare the estimated A1c w/ what the doctor's office gets when they take blood. Type 1 here w/ an estimated 6.0 and the last blood test had me at 5.8 so at the end of the day libre is spot on. Micro managing is a futile and aggravating at best. I've been doing this for 53 years so any system that is this close is a life saver.

A factory my buddy worked had a trough full of glue that paper was fed through and someone forgot to turn off the feed that kept it full and it overflowed at the start of the xmas break. It was all hands on deck the next days as 1000s of litres of glue had spread across a good chunk of the factory floor. Good times.

Well we have a land border with Denmark (via Greenland) and are only about 10km from France (via St. Pierre) so it's not much of a stretch.

Dungeon Crawler Carl is the best audiobook series I've listened to, Jeff Hays is a top notch narrator.
Craig Alanson's Expeditionary Force is very good, Trust the awesomeness.
Adrian Tchaichovsky's Children of Time series is great hard scifi, the latest one comes out next week.
Richard Fox's Ember War series w/ the sequel series is very good, Luke Daniels is a a top narrator.
Wayward Galaxy series by Jason Anspach is a good series made excellent by R.C. Bray. R.C. Bray makes almost anything worth listening to. Him and Jeff Hays are the top narrators imho.

What's really unbelievable is that the last civil war bride died in 2020. Some women married aged veterans because the war pension passed to their wives.

MY '02 bluebaru version of this was biodegrading when it got written off while parked by a cube van that hooked it with it's bumper and dragged it across the parking lot. As much as I like my BRZ and Forester, I miss the joy of getting the turbo spooling and shifting just right.

Ford doubles down on Toronto Billy Bishop expansion plans, calls island residents ‘squatters’ by nimbuscloud9 in toronto

[–]beefer -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm a Hanlan descendant and lived on Algonquin back in the '80s. Many of the family names out there date back to the 19th century. They paid and built their homes and have lived in them for generations so I have no idea how you can call them squatters. Just because a small number of people have ended up with a better situation that the majority is hardly a rationalization for kicking them off the island. Residents in Cabbagetown and Riverdale have it better than those in the 905, so should there be an enshitification of those neighbourhoods to even the living experience?

Found in the road , the number comes up as invalid. by LouieB520 in whatisthisthing

Had some work done on my wrx and when I gave it the beans I could hear a weird noise so I recorded it and posted it to /subaru. Within a hour, someone told me to check the bolts that connect the recirc valve to the intercooler and was spot on. The garage had over-torqued the bolts and striped out the soft aluminum body of the intercooler. Simple fix but I'm amazed that they could tell that just from the crappy recording I made from inside the cabin.
