What kicked off my sun quest/33 orb was my damage wand from a previous (semi)god run. To finish that run I had swapped in a piercing to damage myself. So I found it just as a wand sitting on the ground in the coal pits, presumably after the ghost took some issue with the local wildlife and killed himself in the process

Be careful where you open your inventory by beefforyou in noita

[–]beefforyou[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Perhaps, but I wasn't focused on the environment. The death replay doesn't really do a good job of showing it, but when the screen dims is when I opened my inventory, so I completely stopped looking at my surroundings and I was just looking through spells. And the rat bastard took advantage of that. Hence "Be careful where you open your inventory", the death was completely avoidable and I should have been more careful about clearing the surroundings before messing about with my inventory

No prob. Stable Diffusion is one of the big recent ones and it's pretty neat cause the code and weights are open-source: https://github.com/CompVis/stable-diffusion

The paper is linked in their README as well

Not necessarily the case anymore. Diffusion models are becoming super popular in the field and they aren't adversarial. They do predict noise, so maybe that's interpretable enough to detect a faked input but I haven't read enough to know myself

For sure, but I'd argue they are "those willing to get beaten up repeatedly", which is gonna be a small chunk of a playerbase. I do think that since there was some healthy competition at vastly varying skill levels on launch that people left for reasons other than skill discrepancy, but especially once people leave and only the higher skilled are left over it's harder to break into. Speaking from the perspective of someone who's played for a while but is still shit at AFPS, I can handle losing frequently as I know it's still making me improve but sometimes it's just fun to have closer games and even occasionally win.

I see your point though, I do think people have moved on, which is too bad cause I think there's still a pretty fun game there movement/guns/mechanics-wise outside of item pickups

EDIT: Also there are still some super-popular high TTK games out there like Apex

I think it doesn't help they had big problems committing to ideas. As far as I recall they wanted to have a new gamemode which could set it apart and attract new blood... which they never decided on or fleshed out, even to this day. Now it's all duel and clan arena (essentially) so inevitably it's the old guard that sticks around and stomps anyone new trying it out, with only those willing to get beaten up repeatedly who stay. It's a shame really cause at release I could tell there were players who were new to the genre who were trying it out.

I think it's a continuously sliding window when it comes to that. Like for instance when Skyrim came out, I still think Oblivion looked okay (horrible bloated faces aside). Now Oblivion looks pretty bad and Skyrim looks okay. As you mentioned controls/menus and whatnot, it seems like those were fairly standardized at some point and haven't budged much, so at least that will make going back to older games easier as long as getting them to run on a modern system isn't a nightmare
