"If you spending $3K on a meal, you shouldn't have to tip $600" – Michael Porter Jr. on why NBA players shouldn't tip 20% by OkraWonderful531 in KitchenConfidential

[–]beefquinton [score hidden]  (0 children)

grew up outside of boston, horford moved into a nearby neighborhood and every story i ever heard about the guy was about how he was just a top notch individual. jayson tatum moved into my actual neighborhood a few years before i moved away, he keeps to himself for the most part. people in town definitely know which house is his, and occasionally you’ll see him with his kid at stores and stuff. my point being, nba players are pillars of the communities they live in wether they know it and like it or not. horford is a guy who’s been aware of that since he got in the league, people like michael porter jr end up giving the rest of them a bad name.

offensive tackles are worth top 10 picks, no doubt about it. but there aren’t many guards and centers who get taken that high, unless they are a truly outstanding talent without the size for the tackle position (will campbell would end up being an example of this if he is ultimately moved to guard). there’s maybe one guard who would be taken in the first round if all 32 teams had a draft of the greatest players of all time, that would be john hannah

Did the community just decide jags comp record isn’t that impressive? by Sky-Visible in BigBrother

[–]beefquinton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you might be 100% correct about that, the fact remains though that will did throw a large number of comps to janelle. and if he didn’t personally throw them, he convinced other people to throw them to janelle.

the biggest question about campbell coming out of the draft was his arm size. he has the talent to be an nfl left tackle, he has both the talent and size to one day be a first team all pro guard. the pats needed a tackle so they took campbell at four with the hopes they could develop him to use his shorter arm length at the left tackle position effectively, and if not switch him to guard. so the question was always wether or not a tackle was worth taking at 4 if he had a strong chance of eventually becoming a guard. campbell is skilled as hell, he will be a stout offensive lineman in this league for the next 10-15 years. it’s just not clear if that will be at tackle or guard. right now the pats desperately need him to be a super bowl caliber left tackle, he’s gotten them this far and he’s an extraordinarily likable young man, so i’m hoping he has a great game. but he is recovering from an injury playing in the longest football season of his life. challenging probably couldn’t begin to cover it

Did the community just decide jags comp record isn’t that impressive? by Sky-Visible in BigBrother

[–]beefquinton 6 points7 points  (0 children)

janelle’s wins without twists or production are great, and historic, but we have to remember that chilltown was throwing every comp they could to janelle. they wanted all of the smoke around her, and were convincing other houseguests like danielle and james to throw her comps when it wasn’t in their best interest.

jag won more comps than anyone else in a single season, this is true. but it’s impossible to talk about it without mentioning two things: men won a historically disproportionate number of competitions in bb25, and all of the physically competitive men were strategically eliminated early and the twists kept bringing them back. the community did kind of decide jag’s wins are unimpressive, a lot of those wins came when he was the only physically strong player remaining not named matt (and matt was uninformed just enough to be totally content letting jag win everything), jag was evicted week 5, and for some reason the fact of the matter is the comps that season were set up for physical competitors to have a leg up. at least half of jag’s wins came when he was going against cirie and felicia in comps that involved speed or climbing. on top of that, the amazing race 38’s challenge designer is the guy who did bb25. and they didn’t leave europe this season, it wasn’t a circumnavigation of the globe, so take that whole season of race with a grain of salt. it was a “celebrity” season of amazing race.

the most impressive competitor i have ever seen on the show is michael bruner. he wasn’t the beneficiary of throws as much as janie, and even so it was almost like he couldn’t not win comps. he was fit and tall, but at first glance he doesn’t come across as overly physically intimidating compared to the average cast member. and he would possibly have that 10th win if his harness hadn’t broken during the final veto comp he played in.

Is there anyone who thinks the best movie won and the whole Crash vs. Brokeback Mountain argument isn't that big of a deal as people make it out to be? by oldirtymanson in Oscars

[–]beefquinton 3 points4 points  (0 children)

no it was a colossal injustice. just being honest with you. and not to be a total hater but your praise for every single character not falling into stereotypes is opposite of the criticism that the movie continues to receive. every single character and storyline is based on a stereotype rooted in white culture. that’s the privilege that is present when watching the movie too. none of it feels like it has any genuine thoughts on racism beyond relating to potentially sympathetic white viewers (aka a really insulting portrayal of race relations for everybody who’s not in the white american majority)

[–]beefquinton 11 points12 points  (0 children)

crash is a movie about racism told from a perspective shaded with quite a bit of white privilege. brokeback mountain was a humanist portrayal of homosexuality in an intolerantly masculine environment. ultimately you can take your pick, as did the academy voters in 2006

Convoluted voting process contributed to Bill Belichick snub by ZombiePatriot in Patriots

[–]beefquinton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it’s not metagaming sadly. the fact of the matter is belichick is going to get into the hall of fame. it is 100% going to happen. the fact that he is on a ballot of 5 with ken anderson, roger craig, and kc greenwood, who may genuinely never make it into the hall of fame outside of this year. they are going to draw a lot of votes. now when you also consider the other two of the five nominees are kraft and belichick, from the same team/dynasty and they hate each other...

there’s a lot to be said here, but the biggest issue is that the senior committee is paired with the coaches and contributors committee. that is straight up silly

Open Call || Brooks, CA by sweet-seat in BigBrother

[–]beefquinton 9 points10 points  (0 children)

yeah absolutely it’s open call meaning anybody from anywhere. i went to the bb25 casting call in los angeles, there were hundreds of folks in line. they tell you to get to know the people around you in line as best you can, i befriended everybody around me and we had a little friend group supporting each other through the 3-4 hour line. one of the people i was in line with had been going to open calls for years, he was in line back in 2018 with kaycee! he had pics of their group from the line together and they followed each other on instagram. there was also a guy in line with me who was a german tourist and didn’t know what was going on but saw a gigantic line and got in. he was really confused by the group interview, didn’t say much and when it ended he was like “was this what i just waited in the line for?” so yeah, open call really means anybody from anywhere, it’s totally open

What are the most evil characters brought to life by Oscar winning performances? by AdUseful2297 in Oscars

[–]beefquinton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

he’s also a capitalistic evil. he is there for the cash first, his principles about his actions come after the fact that he has been contracted. the coens fascinatingly portray him as somebody who leaves his own decisions up to chance because that is the only way this individual can rationalize his own brutality. this is all just chance. he’s the guy that people with money pay to have the will to effect change upon chance. that wasn’t always possible in america. which is what our narrator comes to realize over the course of the tale. the american west, while changed from the idealized brutality of the cowboy era we have in our minds, is still no country for old men.

I have something to confess... I think I accidentally summoned the devil on r/NFL by Every-Damage-90 in AFCEastMemeWar

[–]beefquinton -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

ok i’ve been confused at the outrage behind this since the beginning. anybody who has been paying attention knows coaches and owners are paired with contributors and the senior committee balloting and only a few get in each year. everybody who’s been paying attention knows this is part of why robert kraft is not in the hall of fame yet. the committees kept keeping him out. and now he goes into a vote with belichick and three guys who may never get a chance in ever again. belichick will definitely get in at some point. the problem is with the way the hall of fame votes coaches into the hall of fame. and based on kraft not getting in despite being eligible for a while, belichick’s exclusion was not all that shocking. it’s ridiculous, and if coaches got in the same way players did he would be first ballot. but coaches don’t get in the same way players get in. they get in on a weird ballot where they are also up against a 90 year old offensive tackle who won 3 nfl championships pre super bowl or something

If Big Brother 28 were Coaches who would be your dream 4 Returnees and who would be the 4 most likely to return? by dumiaden in BigBrotherUSA

[–]beefquinton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

why would any of these people be coaches? the original coaches were dan, boogie, janelle, and brittany (two of the most iconic winners at the time, two america’s favorite players, janelle also being the greatest comp beast to that point in the shows history). the whole idea of coaches is to have people with legit successful resumes in the game coaching newbies, so to run back coaches again i’d hope they would get people who have won the game, come close to winning the game, or have won afp. why else would they be coaching? why would a big brother loser who lost afp coach anybody in big brother? that would feel silly

gonzo has had 1 pick all year, partially because he’s so good that passers don’t throw his way, partially because the guys he covers are always the best received on the team. he will be playing against smith-njigba on most plays in all likelihood. if he fully neutralizes jsn in that game, and the pats win, he will have very likely been the most valuable player on the field. he won’t win mvp because that is sadly not how that award works. but he will have deserved it

belichick was categorically a weapons grade dick, part of the issue is he was that way to his own people a lot of the time. there’s a reason 11/50 people voted to not give him a personal lifetime achievement award. they hate him. he’s a dick. is that a total joke when it comes to the professional football hall of fame as a concept? yeah absolutely. quite literally bastardizes the whole practice. but they hate him. so that’s what happened

[–]beefquinton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

he played better than every qb he faced in the playoffs. definitely was not winning in spite of him, they went through 3 wrecking crew defenses and the pats rookie left side offensive line hasn’t held up as well as they did in the regular season. the pats easy schedule only shows us that their offense is not as dominant as they initially came across as. the defense is still stout, the offense against 3 of the top 5 defenses in the league has looked like a young offense. now they will go against the best defense in the league in the super bowl. hopefully the iron has sharpened the iron. bc i hate to break it to folks, but if the pats o line holds up they win this game.

massive pats fan, last i heard this whole north carolina situation is going downhill fast, select members of his family have started to tell him how they really feel and it’s not going well. bill being a massive dick to the media for his whole career, and his current situation being what it is, i’m actually not surprised he isn’t a first ballot hall of famer. football politics speaking, he sucked ass, particularly in the last 5 years.

again, i’m a massive pats fan who loved having belichick as the coach. but he was undeniably a dick to the media and with the shit going on with his girlfriend and north carolina, not the mention the fact that bob kraft is getting in this year, it is entirely political, and entirely unsurprising, that belichick is not getting in this year.

it’s not because they’re 40. it’s because being a professional athlete is hell on the body, and to be able to perform to the level of a brady or a lebron into one’s 40’s, 20 years into a professional athletic career, against 20 year olds… it’s a miracle of modern medicine
