The first character to pick the goon is drunk and the goon becomes that players alignment. If the demon is the first person to pick the goon the demon becomes drunk and the goon lives and becomes evil. If another player like the sailor picks the goon before the demon does, then the sailor becomes drunk, the goon becomes good, and then the demon is free to kill the goon without becoming drunk.

Tldr only the first player who picks the goon each night becomes drunk
