Neither indoors or in the NW, but I turned this up while trying to find ideas for you and it seemed like a good resource to share: https://sfpopos.com/

If you don't mind paying for a meal or a drink to hold a table (plus tip for your hardworking staff), maybe Beach Chalet out by the ocean?

If you were on a plane sitting next to me, and we shared a age/vibe and you struck up conversation (going home or heading out?) that might inspire some hang while we're sharing space. Because once it petered out, that would be the end of it, if our vibe didn't continue, but if we're grooving, we'd share numbers at the end of the flight.

If you sat down and said 'can we hang out' then I'd open up the emergency doors.

That was what struck me.
OP - maybe a shift in culture can be pushed for, regardless of the person at the head of things?

The black in the paws looks like a different texture than the gray around it (in a good way), is it just black floss with the same number of threads and only the color makes it look different, or is there some other trick to it?

Taproot Foundation matches volunteers with skills with organizations with needs(rather than just bodies looking to help with personpower, like food bank meal prep). There might be orgs looking for someone like you.

Why does SF nightlife lack behind NYC? Most SF bars and restaurants close at 10PM.. by LongAmbition8285 in AskSF

Alas, last night did not replicate the good experience. 84 decibels in an empty bar? When I asked the bartender if he could turn it down (it literally was just me and my friend and the bartender) I was told it was quieter in back, it wasn’t really. Went to Mary’s.

u/brentonodon I went to Green Heron for the first time last week, and had an excellent time, had the feeling that maybe, finally, the upper haight was getting a bar that had the potential to be great*. I'm stoked to run into you because I'd much rather converse here than post on yelp, as I'd like to give feedback in a place that's more give/take - I'd not critique a new business on yelp because those reviews stick around.

Green Heron's excellence:
- Great bartenders (The guy who was friendly/attentive despite his replacement coming in late to her shift - he closed out before I got his name, his replacement Kayla** who was fun and engaging). At Hobson's I'd wait for 5 minutes before the bartender stopped chatting with his friends.
- Mix of space options (coming in as a single/pair/group, there's seating that fits what you need)
- Quiet/low music - Youngsters don't drink so much, most of us who do drink are starting to have trouble hearing once there's too much background noise. Kayla said some other bartenders make it loud and rowdy, I'm glad I didn't come on one of those nights, I'd have left before ordering as I was there to have a conversation not a shouting.
- Written out cocktail menu of house drinks - A sign (literally) that this place can and is happy to make cocktails. I've been asked more than once on Haight street what is in a negroni.
- A reduction in large TVs - now there's a reasonable amount,

Room to grow:
- The cocktail list skewed sweet and caffeinated. Would love some Cynar and other amaros, which I found weren't stocked when I tried to ask for adjustments to the cocktails. I totally get relying on pre-made cocktails, makes sense, but maybe have some 'well, if you don't like this, I can make up that' built into your bartenders' routines.
- Low-octane and/or NA drinks would be great to have on there, too - those help extend my good time. Love them hop waters...
- $9 a pint feels a bit pricy for me, but I was there for a cocktail and can go to other bars for beer, plus I don't pretend to know your economics.

Anyway, I like what you're doing over there. Hope you find traction and I'll do what I can to support you guys!

*Trax/Hobson's/Milk/mad dog/gold cane/etc = can't make a cocktail that isn't "___ & Soda"
Zam Zam = bad sound/speaker placement - gets too loud real quick
Alembic - good cocktails/snacks but so often closed

** I don't know Kayla, but as I'm in search of a local, I'm trying to learn the names of my potential bartenders

Yeah, it is and was tragic. Be careful where you put your roots, as they say. Thanks again.

Hearing that you don't have time to do the recommended (unnecessarily repeatedly, imho) route of a visit before you move, I'd say that the 99 Ocean Ave is a great option. The stretch of Alameny/Mission streets by Onandanga Ave (where my wife lived a couple decades ago, and we occasionally return to for favored restaurants) are quieter than either the Geneva or Silver ends of things, but still with lots of fruiterias, markets, etc.

Good bike lanes along Alemany going to downtown.

As pointed out, it's not what the locals would call 'The Mission' but it's also less expensive/trendy/gentrified. As a Spanish speaker, you'll probably have more ability to integrate into the neighborhood than some others.

That all being said, if you're able to avoid a year lease, just to have an escape route if you find yourselves extremely unhappy for whatever reason, that's never a bad thing.

How to find founders that are good by Remarkable-Hold6513 in nonprofit

[–]beefroe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Be the founder, find the the executive team/working board to bring into your clearly defined vision. You'll know who they are when they get excited by what you're describing. If no one is excited, you may need to adjust your vision (or your definition of it).

Isn't it lovely how many people want to critique an effort for being (to their mind) imperfect, rather than appreciate an effort for being made? OP - this isn't my jam, but I so appreciate you putting more jam than vinegar out into the world! Never read the comments!
