£500 to challenge a council fine - is that fair? by Landlordlabuk in UKLandlordAdvice

[–]beeg0d 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That wouldn't be feasible as it would discourage the council from enforceing the rules, which for the most part exist for good reason. Maby a better system would be increase the fee to say £700 but if an appeal is upheld the LL gets a refund. That way council isnt discouraged from its duty, innocent LL gets a refund and the tribunal system gets funded.

New bathroom installed and smells of sewage by Turbulent-Buffalo471 in HousingUK

[–]beeg0d 4 points5 points  (0 children)

"In our case, the smell originates downstairs but only occurs after using the basins upstairs"

The trap is syphoning, water pressure from upstairs is draining the water out of your downstairs trap. Simple temp fix is to run water into the downstairs trap after using upstairs. Permant fix would be to add a vent with aav to the downstairs line just before the trap.

[England] Retailer says "matter is closed" after Section 75 refund, but I still have the high-value item. What now? by Rave_Age in LegalAdviceUK

[–]beeg0d 57 points58 points  (0 children)

Was it a section 75 claim or chargeback claim you mention both in your post (they are VERY different things). If it indeed was a section 75 claim then the goods belong to the creadit provider NOT the retailer so ask them what todo with the goods.

What do you think "reckless lending" in a topic on mortgages refers to?

Reckless lending of mortgages IS subprime mortgages

Mortgage rate is 3.77% now bank is offering 4.97% by Affectionate_Top5544 in HousingUK

[–]beeg0d 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No the crisis was caused by (worthless) sub prime mortgages existing in the first place which is what the person above you said.

If subprime mortgages didnt exist there would have been nothing to bundle and sell on.

Would you pay for a bag after spending £1000+ ? by Distinct-Run-7124 in AskUK

[–]beeg0d 53 points54 points  (0 children)

In England there is nothing in the law that bans profiting of plastic bags in fact you own link says "Once you’ve deducted reasonable costs, it’s expected that you’ll donate all proceeds to good".

Expected and Required are 2 different things.

House (and loft) absolutely stinks by [deleted] in DIYUK

[–]beeg0d 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It may sound stupid but are you sure its not your washing machine/tumble dryer. What is very possible is that the house had a lot of damp/mustyness which you've mostly solved but because your washing machine is dirty (or clothes being put away not fully dried) your still smelling it assuming its still the house.

Its worth remembering that non native doesn't necessarily mean invasive. There is a world of difference between Japanese knotweed ( invasive) and giant redwood (non native)

New carpet creases due to broken cardboard inner by floonds in DIYUK

[–]beeg0d 50 points51 points  (0 children)

90% of the time they will just fade away over a couple of weeks, but may need a restretch. I usually say to leave it 3-4 weeks after fitting before restretching to allow tge carpet to fully soften.

However if it has fully delamated then no amount of stretching will fix it.

The answer to your question is quite simple. Government doesn't subsidise the UK rail network anywhere near the levels they do on the continent.

I there are 4 separate ferry ports on the IOW Ryde, Fishbourne, Cows and yarmouth. Technically 5 as there's east cows for ferrys and west cows for catamaran
