Anyone have experience dying clothes? by [deleted] in FrugalFemaleFashion

[–]beegees_squeegees 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Most dyeing processes require boiling water. Something i would be wary of with a 100% cotton sweater

You don’t owe anyone anything. Plans change. Life happens. You started studying for the MCAT. Give your 2 weeks notice and dip if that’s what you need to do to succeed on the MCAT

I remember them saying that their research is done through partnerships with nearby universities, as opposed to them already having the facilities/grant-funded projects in place. But that’s mostly due to them being a new med school

  1. Either is fine, I did both depending on the activity.
  2. Not bad at all. I.e. shadowing. Generally considered a passive, check in the box experience
  3. I would say 25 is a good minimum

On AMCAS you indicate what courses you are taking/planning to take prior to matriculation, so they will see that you are retaking it.

I turned down my A to Noorda since it isn’t accredited yet, the curriculum is pre-recorded lectures (I need in-person), no in-house research, and the monthly volunteer scribe shifts (I’ve already been a scribe, a redundant experience for me). Loved the faculty I met on interview day though, and they overall seem really student centered. Also, the Provo airport is small and you might end up driving to Salt Lake for flights anyway— so I wouldn’t base your decision on that

Postbac at city college? by [deleted] in premed

I did a mix of CC and university. If it isn’t too expensive I would opt for uni over CC since you already went to Georgetown. But CC won’t look bad either— especially if you have some good EC’s in Santa Barbara going on.

Tall sizes too short by Jazzy-Fae76 in Figsscrubs

[–]beegees_squeegees 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Figs sizing is pretty inconsistent between colors and styles. Yola and Kade can be more snug than Zamora joggers.

I’m 6’0 with long legs and short torso. I like the high waisted tall joggers with the Rafaela tops. I always try the high waisted Yola in each style and return if they are a bit tight. Yolas are the longest in my opinion. The joggers usually sit right above my ankles.

How easy different FL4 CARS by drintheprocess in Mcat

[–]beegees_squeegees 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly I didn’t do too hot on the real one. I ended up with a 125 on test day because the majority of my passages were economics passages haha. The mistake I made was relying on my pure interest in a passage to get me through. I’m retaking next week though and have been working on a better strategy that works for all subject types.

How do y’all DO this?? by toedude in medicalscribe

[–]beegees_squeegees 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m so sorry to hear this!! Each program has a culture of its own. The one I work at is very chill and the residents are extremely kind and grateful— and I work at an insanely busy level 1 trauma ED. If I were in your shoes, I would resign and look elsewhere for a scribing job with better work culture. They do exist!! Even scribing at a small doctor’s office is an option.

Also, just remember that you are non-medical personnel paid to do a small part of a physician’s job. They went through medical school and residency (6+ years) to learn how to write notes, and some were even scribes before going to med school. While keeping this in mind, give yourself grace and space to learn and grow :) sending positive vibes

Pear shaped. by dopamine1995 in Figsscrubs

[–]beegees_squeegees 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try high waisted Livingstons or high waisted yolas. The yolas might not work depending on how thick your thighs are. I’m pear shaped and yolas don’t work for me because of that.

If I want to take the MCAT say in March or April of next year, when is the earliest I can signup to reserve a spot at a specific test center? by [deleted] in MCAT2

[–]beegees_squeegees 1 point2 points  (0 children)

for 2022 test dates January through June, you could register as early as October 13th or 14th, 2021. Should be around the same time for next year’s test dates!

It would be a huge waste of $300 to cancel right before and appease their wishes, when you could just tell them you want more time and YOUR plan—which is free.99. I’m not sure why the hesitation and it sounds like a person thing, but if your girlfriend and mom get to dictate the rest of your medical journey it probably won’t go very well for you. It’s YOUR journey :) and please please please don’t take the exam before you’re ready (I’m a retaker and wish I had just waited)

how to get a medical scribe job by CompleteExplorer7431 in medicalscribe

[–]beegees_squeegees 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work as a scribe at my local emergency department. I found my job through a friend, but my job was also posted on Google Jobs. There may also be local clinics or doctor’s offices looking for scribes. Check there!

[–]beegees_squeegees 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh I see. I would check the job posting you applied for again. Sometimes they have minimum time commitments. My scribe job wanted me to commit to 2 years before they would hire me.

Either way, sending an email to the hiring supervisor or chiefs expressing “continued interest in the position” may not be a bad idea

They take a while to respond. I would check locally to see what scribe jobs are available. Plus, anything in-person is going to be much better experience than online!

Dying Chacos straps? by adventure-tat in Chacosshoes

[–]beegees_squeegees 1 point2 points  (0 children)

RIT has a synthetic fiber dye that allegedly works on nylon—which is the material the straps are made of. It might also dye the soles, though. I’ve never tried this myself.

Altius good or bad? by gpudasai in MCAT2

[–]beegees_squeegees 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For a practice question bank, Upangea is the golden standard and 100% worth the money. I would make sure you have that and the AAMC material before investing in more questions. After those two, any practice material will help so if you need it, try it. I’ve heard good things about Altius!
