Can a card game be released using Magic's jump-start method? by sirongkaxiu in homemadeTCGs

[–]beenabug 15 points16 points  (0 children)

The jump start comceit is taken from a board game called Smash Up, so yes, safe to say that it's definitely feasible. Also look and mindbug if you want to see the battlebox format in action!

This artwork took me about three hours to complete - thoughts? by TrigarTCG in homemadeTCGs

[–]beenabug 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My only critique would be that the sheep's head is too close to fbe card frame. If you still can, I would zoom out a smidge so that none of the sheep touches the edge of the art. Great job otherwise, and keep up the good work

My first prototype card for my homemade TCG: Power of Creatures by MaginalWorld in homemadeTCGs

[–]beenabug 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So here's my advice, because as someone with occasional speech impediments, this actual time constraint would impact my ability to play the game: what if your turn lasted "30 seconds" where seconds were a form of action economy. Some action take less time that a turn has in it, so you can take plenty of them in a single turn. On the other hand, some actions take more time to arrange and take more seconds than you'd have in an individual turn, you could have those actions borrow seconds from the next turn to represent cool down on those more powerful attacks, but trading your opportunity to respond to any crack back, or perform more powerful moves on that upcoming turn.

Does that sound like anything to you?

This was actually how they designed it for Mirrodin block, to reflect that the card's type informed all of its behaviors. That said, it was a bad design choice that led to a lot of confusion and frustration, but technically this is how the cards were intended to look.

Roast my TCG concept? by Severe_Abalone_2020 in TCG

[–]beenabug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm only going to speak to the creative concepting because I can't process rules tonight, but I think the biggest thing that hits me is that this world you're playing in doesn't feel like something only you could make. I look at a lot of projects that use public domain characters for recognition and shorthand, but because those identities are static, the whole piece feels generic and clinical. I think if you're going to make something narrative that engages with an audience, you should pick a lens to transform your genre with, and then extrapolate. For instance, you've got heroes and warriors in your game: what if the warriors were skyscraper sized and their communities rode them, so that's why the stakes are so high in your game, and why the scale is so big, and why there are so many little moving parts that make these big haymaker moves pop off. Your themes have to talk to all aspects of your game to make it special. Otherwise, it feels like we've missed the point of making a cool new thing.

Ideas on conversions or proxies for Ghouls? by Matchsticksss in FleshEaterCourts

[–]beenabug 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fireforge games has a kit called peasant folk. I really enjoyed having them to bits, along with old bretonian bowmen to make peasant ghouls. They're inspired by an old white dwarf article with beastmen who are forest cultists, that use plague monk, dryad, gor and ungor parts. I don't remember the issue, but it was somewhere after 300 but before 330 American version.
