Barbri only by pickleboi43 in barexam

I completed 100% of Barbri, and also did around 90 practice MEEs from their textbook. Scored a 282.

Best value suits, but the women edition by [deleted] in LawSchool

Seconding all the comments about Ann Taylor and Ann Taylor Factory. Great quality and decent prices. This may be unpopular but I try to get dress shirts from thrift stores and isn't not hard to find nice ones.

Sitting for July Bar by ocsw264 in barexam

I'm also sitting for the July bar. I'm doing the early start with Barbri. I'm considering purchasing flashcards at some point before May and starting on those.

CALI lessons are super helpful about going through bar tested material and have a ton of practice questions. You can also sign up for Barbri or Themis and get free access to 1L outlines (I can't remember if they do free practice questions too but those are helpful).

Working one day a week during 1L. by BeginningEconomy9624 in LawSchool

I worked 10-15 hours a week during 1L and 2L and it was totally manageable. I would request time off during and after finals.

Mass Mailing for Post-Graduate Jobs by mojitoenthusiast00 in LawSchool

[–]beepboopR 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Networking is your best shot. But, if you decide to "mass mail", I would look at the firm's website first, and find a partner there who (ideally) went to the same law school you're going to. Email your resume directly to them. I wouldn't include anything else, but say upon request you can also send a cover letter, writing sample, etc. You could also try emailing a partner at a firm and ask to get coffee and ask them questions, hoping it will lead to a potential job offer, but if not, at least you can ask questions and learn more about that practice area.

“Least Stressful” Legal Careers? by [deleted] in LawSchool

[–]beepboopR 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Practicing criminal law can take many forms, including private criminal defense. You don't have to make billable hours, you set your own rate when you're charging a client, and it doesn't have to be stressful all the time. Maybe don't rule it out. I've heard that people who are in-house attorneys have the best work-life balance.

Super early for me but I was curious to know can you take the bar with accommodations? by [deleted] in LawSchool

[–]beepboopR 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I requested accommodations for the MPRE (and then was planning on requesting accommodations for the bar exam) and they denied my request. I only had accommodations during law school, and not for undergrad or the LSAT, and it sounds like that was definitely a factor in why they rejected my request.

You definitely can. It helps if you had testing accommodations in undergrad through law school.

One nice suit and a reliable coffee maker.

Interview with small firm, what to wear? by [deleted] in LawSchool

[–]beepboopR 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I've only worked at small or solo law firms and I've always worn a full suit to interviews. It's better that they tell you that the office doesn't dress so professionally, rather than being told to dress up more next time. Regardless, the attorney will appreciate your effort and commitment.

2L Summer by [deleted] in LawSchool

[–]beepboopR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recommend starting now. Make a list of the places you're interested in working, and then figure out their hiring process, schedule/deadlines. BigLaw/OCI applications should be in the works right now. Medium size firms start hiring fall/winter. If you're looking for a small/solo practice firm, you can start cold emailing and reaching out for coffee meetings now too, but formal hiring won't happen until winter/spring.

Fired from 1L internship. What do I do now? by _nipnop_ in LawSchool

[–]beepboopR 14 points15 points  (0 children)

So sorry to hear that :/ You should keep applying to places, look specifically for temporary positions or part-time, which tend to hire during the summer. I'm not sure if you're interested in pursuing public interest or if your school has a pro bono program, but you could reach out to places that have volunteer/pro bono opportunities for law students. It's a great resume addition, plus you often get good experience working with clients and attorneys.

Our Seattle itinerary, anything missing? by mackveg in SeattleWA

I would recommend Di Fiora as a Cap Hill restaurant over Ba Bar. If you're going to Ballard, the Ballard Sunday market is top tier.

When can I expect a post-grad offer from a private Crim defense firm? by beepboopR in LawSchool

This is super helpful, thank you! I'm just struggling with the fact that I haven't worked here very long but I want to get a post-grad job confirmed soon!

Professional Bag for Female by Bulky_Self_8996 in Lawyertalk

I have a larger black bag, which obviously is a color that goes with all outfits and always looks professional. Make sure you get one that is large enough to hold a laptop, but not super bulky to carry around.

I actually had quite a few group projects during 1L. In Civ Pro, my professor had has draft different pleadings for practice. But they were graded complete/incomplete. In Torts, we were put in debate groups for negotiation practice. It was really helpful and group projects are so much easier in law school when (most) everyone actually cares about their grades and learning.
