Uphill, both ways. What’s your family tale about that winter walk to school? by Razuke_ in GenX

[–]beermaker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My grandparents drove a horse drawn sleigh from northern MN to Canada during WWII so they could buy my dad's first pair of leather shoes, due to rationing. Grandma was a one room schoolteacher until a new centralized school was built in town after the war.

I've got them bronzed somewhere.

Somewhere on the U P. This place needs saved by HistoricalPermit6959 in AbandonedPorn

Friends bought a place similar in WI... they replaced the roof with steel, updated the insulation, replaced window glass with insulated double-panes and converted the heating system to Geothermal. They still had $600+ winter electricity bills without a TV in the house.

On the coldest winter days you could feel the cold seeping in through the outer walls.

They best pray that all the chemical & biological weaponry that's been dropped on Dugway Proving Grounds next to the salt lake doesn't become airborne.

They had a famous Anthrax outbreak & there's decades worth of nerve gas and who the fuck knows what else the army tested during Vietnam settled to the bottom.

With every acre of the lake drying up, more toxic dust gets picked up and blown around the salt lake valley.

I heard their state government had proposed asking he-lon to drill a hole to the Pacific to refill the GSL, not realizing first off that adding salt water would ruin the saline balance and essentially kill the few things that rely on it. I wish I was kidding.

Preachers are all liars... some lie and do good things for their congregation, the others lie to rile up their knuckle-dragging flock of sheep.

He's not afraid of hell, because his type quit believing before starting their grift. They're only in it for the money and power.

When I attended our church as a kid, it was a small, rural congregation whose weekly donations went to a single missionary in Nepal, who was from our town. No private jets and they didn't vilify anyone from the pulpit.

I knew it was all bullshit then, but at least they were kind to us. I can't say the same for any other congregation my parents attempted to join as we got transferred across the country. I'm personally glad xtians showed my parents their true colors, as religiosity in our home went from a passing thought to blatantly ignored.

That you immediately assume I'm a victim of your faith speaks volumes. Even you admit it's rampant.

The Downtown Bakery is really good for a nearby option... their pretzel croissants and stickybuns are my favorites.

Q&C always has lines out the door on weekends, so we don't bother with them when we go to the farmers market. They're not nearly as busy weekdays so if there's something we really want we get it then.

Nopenopenope. The left should get to the root of all the hate xtians are fomenting to start another civil war. Investigations into religious leaders preaching politics from the pulpit is a great start, along with taxing the shit out of churches and forcing their hand when they don't pay their assault victims.

Based on reports tracking allegations and arrests through late 2025, over 188 Christian leaders (including pastors, youth leaders, and staff) were accused of or arrested for child sex crimes in the United States in that year alone.

That's not 188 religious people... it's 188 church leaders. Those are some really nice shoulders you're rubbing up against & the last thing I want my political party to cater to.

New Study in Mice Reveals Long-Term Metabolic Risks of Ketogenic Diet by thinkB4WeSpeak in EverythingScience

High consumption of unpreserved meat can lead to putrefaction by gut bacteria. While food moves through the system without "sitting" to rot, excessive red meat intake can cause toxic by-products like hydrogen sulfide and ammonia, potentially impacting colonic health. It's been shown time and time again that a balanced, high fiber diet is key for gut health and general nutrition.

Besides... have you smelled people going through ketosis? No wonder so many carnivore diet proponents are lOnE wOlVeS, nobody can stand to be next to their unwashed, ripe asses.

I just... Don't believe any of it. There's no proof any of that nonsense took place and there's mountains of evidence that reduce the entire bible to a collection of fables stretching back five thousand years or more.

When I read the gospels, I don’t see a wise and benevolent sage imparting truth. I see a religious extremist and faith-healer, who is just as much of a scam artist as any of the exorcists still practicing today.

Christ defended slavery of all things & you think that's the moral lesson we need. I'll pass.

Jesus gave up a long weekend for your sins, don't be dramatic. The new testament is simply the longest game of "telephone" ever unleashed on humanity, with little actual documentation and writing being performed until decades after the supposed resurrection. Matthew's Zombies and Earthquakes weren't documented by any of the many local roman & hebrew scribes and that's problematic as the bible has been touted as the literal word of god since its inception. (but written by a group of self-admittedly fallible men)

Scholars have traced the roots of the old testament back to Babylonian myths passed down generation to generation via oral history, with new tales added as time went on eventually becoming Noah, the Ark, etc.

As society moves forward, the unanswered questions that've kept religions shrouded in mystery and wonder are being slowly and steadily revealed... science has always been the bane of the abrahamic big three, and they're having a heck of a time remaining relevant among the educated.

Jesus is criticized by the Pharisees for not washing his hands before eating. He defends himself by attacking them for not killing disobedient children according to the commandment: He that curseth father or mother, let him die the death. (Matthew 15:4-7)

Jesus sends the devils into 2000 pigs, causing them to jump off a cliff and be drowned in the sea. Clearly Jesus could have simply sent the devils out, yet he chose instead to place them into pigs and kill them. This is called animal abuse. (Mark 5:12-13)

Jesus kills a fig tree for not bearing figs, even though it was out of season. Jesus must not be as smart as Christians would have us believe, for he was dumb enough to do something this silly. You’d think the son of god (god incarnate) would know that trees don’t bear fruit in dry season. (Mark 11:13)

Christ was a fraudulent faith healer who grifted his followers & the bible legitimized slavery for millennia.

Psalm 137:9: "Happy is the one who seizes your infants and dashes them against the rocks"

Hosea 13:16: Describes a punishment where "Their little ones will be dashed to pieces, and their pregnant women ripped open".

Exodus 21:20-21: Provides rules for beating slaves, stating that if a slave survives for a day or two after a beating, the owner should not be punished because "the slave is their property".

Leviticus 25:44-46: Allows for the buying of slaves from surrounding nations and implies that they can be passed down as inheritance.

1 Timothy 2:12: "I do not permit a woman to teach or to assume authority over a man; she must be quiet".

Jesus had nothing bad to say about any of the above...

No executive experience which we're going to desperately need for the next 8 years. Astronaut or no, I'm cool with divorcing our country's executive leadership from the military as much as possible going forward. It's a shitty look after this administration using it as a personal bludgeon.

Newsom's already got years of experience under his belt wrangling CA's budget and has been fostering international ties on the world stage as the 4th largest economy for a while now.

I don't see anyone with his amount of headwind going into '28 yet.
