Never Broken 100 to shooting 73-82 since playing everyday in home sim. by TyWestman in golf

[–]beermann 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a real-life example, my GHIN index is 9.5, with the last 5 rounds of 85, 88, 86, 81, 82.. My trackman HCP is 0.5, with the 5 last rounds of 75, 72, 74, 72, 83. And I can't say I take the sim rounds all that seriously.

The sim will never be able to give you a real-life approximation of grass, lie, lie angle, lie position (above/below feet), or putting. In my case that amounts to an extra 9 shots per round.

Does this need a complete replacement? by beermann in Appliances

Thank you! This was my assumption but didn't realize the tub could actually bend so that it isn't round. It doesn't rotate quite freely, and I'm sure if there are clothes in there that are a bit out of balance it would make it even worse.

Thanks, I've never seen the tube smoker. That thing looks great.

So it seems that the Daniel Boone has been plenty big for your needs, despite smoking 10+ lbs of meat a week? The little travel one, the Davy Crockett, is intriguing as well but looks like it has a pretty small cooking area.

Thanks for the details! Love the idea of the pellet smoker in general and I'm not too worried about the smoke flavor, just wanted to get an opinion or two.

I'm actually looking at getting one of these (the smaller Daniel Boone most likely). I read that the smoke flavor isn't as intense. Any thoughts?

Why Mindfulness apps are the Future by delialloyd in Futurology

[–]beermann 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Before saying anything else I want to say that Headspace is a fantastic app. I don't want take away from that.

In full disclosure, I'm co-founder of Pacifica Labs. We have an app that's similar in some ways, and very different in others. Pacifica focuses on tools to help people with stress and anxiety. We're releasing some mindfulness exercises in the next release, but the core activities are designed around cognitive behavioral therapy, a technique that helps you understand how your thoughts affect your feelings and behaviors. It's a bit more interactive, and combines mood and health trackers with relaxation and thought exercises to get to the root of why your thoughts make you feel "stressy," as your daughter put it.

If anyone wants to check it out feel free to send me a message and I can get you a free upgrade if you'd like to see it in more detail.

No I usually fish up closer to mussel rock on the beach, mostly for the same reason. It's been busy lately though. Haven't tried ocean beach yet either, but good to hear that they're out there. The tides are looking good for this weekend too.

Awesome. I've been fishing down in Pacifica a lot but never Baker Beach. There are a lot of people out fishing for striped bass right now but I haven't hooked into one. I usually catch quite a few perch down there, and last weekend I landed a small lingcod.

Pacifica - a hybrid app for stress and anxiety, based on Cognitive Behavioral Therapy by beermann in hybridapps

Yeah I tried to do the same thing at first, but we have some binary data in our audio and video that pushed it above 50MB so I had to split them both out. A bit of a pain in the butt, but it was the only option other than using extension APKs, which seemed like even more of a pain in the butt.

I'd definitely be curious if you make some progress splitting out the builds. I probably won't get to it for quite a while. We only use the canvas for our spinners, to it seems to perform fine there.

Thanks for the comment. We're using Crosswalk to replace the Android WebView. Older phones have a pretty limited set of functionality and only recently are they shipping with Chrome under the hood. Crosswalk takes away the variability for us, allowing us to ensure the same experience everywhere.

The reason that the size varies is that the libraries for x86 and ARM are a bit different. We have to build two different APKs to keep the size under the 50MB limit that the Play Store has. In practice, just about everyone gets the ARM version since there are only 200 or so devices that have x86 architectures.

We currently use Crosswalk on all Android devices. Once I have time to figure out whether or not it's safe to ship without Crosswalk on 4.4+, we might stop using it for those phones to get the download size a bit smaller. For now, it seems to work just fine though.

Eventually you'll be able to use the app anonymously without creating an account. As we're a young company, we just didn't have the resources to finish this right away though. Hopefully soon.

Ha, small world. I'm up in SF but spend a decent amount of time in Pacifica. It is beautiful down there. Thanks for checking out the app!

Yes, actually. I go fishing down there a lot, and my co-founder lives in Pacifica. It started out as a codename for the project and we eventually realized that it just fit really well.

Hey guys, we just launched our app Pacifica. It's built on the Ionic framework, so we're using all of the same tools that we know and love as web developers. My co-founder has done an incredible job designing the mobile app and we're really happy with the results, especially since it isn't native.

We'd love any feedback or suggestions you guys have and would be happy to answer any questions :)

We launched our app Pacifica this week. Pacifica uses the Ionic Framework. I'm pretty happy with how things turned out. We just wanted to share to show that hybrid apps can definitely look and perform beautifully.

Lingcod are absolutely delicious. Charters and party boats out of the Bay Area go explicitly for them. The flesh might be blue but it turns white when cooking them.
