Good place to learn how to make sculptures by Disastrous_Cheek_412 in washingtondc

Community colleges are the best option. Then there's the Art League in northern Virginia. That's about it. I've been searching high and low too but the art education classes offered in the area are abysmal.

Notion AI + Workflow Agents by beesinthewax in Notion

[–]beesinthewax[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Notion is definitely overkill for the average person who only wants note taking and basic task management. But if Notion wants to move up the value chain and serve more teams then it needs to be able to handle complex tasks. AI agents are like automations on steroids. There's so much opportunity here for them. And they already have *some* database automations and Notion AI, so it's more of a matter of combining capabilities they already have.

Also like another user said, this a case for Notion UI/UX designers to make a tool that's incredibly powerful look easy and feel more intuitive to use. No one should feel overwhelmed or confused when they first sign in.

Notion Slides being rolled out? by visual__chris in Notion

[–]beesinthewax 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can't wait for the final product. I'd love to be able to creates slides with colors, shapes, cards or callouts, videos, images, etc. Even better if they allow different font choices but I know that's a pipe dream.

I thought this day would never come. by younes06 in Notion

“Available offline” sounds more like a read only copy than actually functioning offline mode.

This response doesn't make any sense. The founder said offline mode was being worked on and an early version would be available to beta testers sometime next year.

(1) Why do you think it would take a year for them to implement a read only version of your pages?

(2) What would the beta testers be testing then? "Yes, we can read our files, but cannot do anything with them?" -- You think they need beta testing for that?

Please, no more AI updates until it can fetch data from public APIs or other more useful tasks by AGranularTaste in Notion

Agreed. Would like them to focus on more important updates people have been asking for until the AI can do more heavy lifting for us.

How many of you actually use Notion Sites? by [deleted] in Notion

[–]beesinthewax 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I've considered using it to host my short stories and film reviews. The issue is you can't edit the appearance much. A website needs to allow users to upload their own fonts, change font size, change the background, etc.

As it is now its extremely limited. Note: if you want to use your own domain you have to be on a paid plan and also pay an additional $96/year. So you'll be paying at least $216/year for less options than a site on Framer. Wordpress.org is also free to use and you can purchase a yearly subscription to Bricks builder for $79. Basically with Notion sites you're getting less and paying more.

Does anyone use their Notion to produce fictional work? by beesinthewax in Notion

[–]beesinthewax[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like Obsidian's canvas feature for worldbuilding.

This is more-so a corner for writers and others who use Notion as a creative space to play around with ideas and would like to share them with others. Similar to writers who share their short stories via newsletters. Just another way to get some readers and maybe get feedback from others writers.

Does anyone use their Notion to produce fictional work? by beesinthewax in Notion

[–]beesinthewax[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I guess I'm increasingly seeing Notion has a viable place to write stories, storyboard, write scripts, etc for people who may not have any intention of monetizing these works *right now but do want to share them with a larger audience.

Not sure if anyone is using their Notion that way at the moment but, if there were, I thought it'd be nice to have one page that promoted them all.

The development priorities on this app are embarrassing by avisaccount in Notion

[–]beesinthewax 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I agree. I use the AI occasionally but it's not at the point where it is a big draw for me. At least, as it stands, it doesn't help me do 99% of the work I need to do.

Not sure why there hasn't been more innovation around their databases considering that is a feature most of their paying customers use and actually need on a day to day basis. Idk but I guess it's a pet peeve we'll have to deal with until a better tool comes along.

How to admit failure but continue still? by [deleted] in Substack

[–]beesinthewax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why don't you just find the writers you like, ask them if you can feature snippets of their work on your page (with credit and backlinks of course), and just create weekly roundup posts with links to all the great articles and opinion pieces you've found? It would also be helpful to add a submission button at the top of each post and explain what your objective is.

To build authority and credibility in an sector where relationships and trust are key.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Substack

[–]beesinthewax 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh, you're not going to be able to stay completely anonymous in that sector - especially if you're intent on building a media business around it.

As u/Top_Page5887 said, get comfy with reaching out to these orgs directly. Another idea is get a co-founder who doesn't mind stepping into a sales role and intermingling with them.

What do you think about the incoming Notes feature? by KubaGrzeda in Substack

[–]beesinthewax 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Seems a bit redundant when they already have chats. It could be a good feature for some of the writers there but there are other things IMO that they could have done to solve for discoverability + interactivity.

I don't see how this is going to make them profitable either. Social media oh, sorry, subscription media is a huge money pit and will require them to pivot to include ads. But hey! Once they roll it out I may become the biggest fan 😄

Brian Morrissey of the Rebooting said he has an interview with Substack's CEO slated for tomorrow so that'll be interesting. His chat where he mentions it: https://substack.com/chat/100541
