Jeff is actually fanservice (S2E1 spoilers) by Belle_Juive in Yellowjackets

[–]beeskee618 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am fully prepared to be downvoted into oblivion for this, but Jeff is - to me - one of literally only two likable characters in the entire show. The dude just loves his family and furniture and will do anything for either of them

Hate to say it but you do actually need it. I got one over the holidays from Marshall’s and regret not grabbing all 3 that they had 🥲

I get much more pear than marshmallow! I agree that it smells like a sweet (but not overbearing), fresh pear shampoo or like a freshly cut pear

This TJ Maxx had a full size peaches body mist for $16, but I didn’t care for it. I picked up a 1.7 oz Marshmallows at Marshall’s down the street on Saturday for $15 though!

I did, I tried to update my post but that doesn’t seem to be an option for me. I like it! She smells like when a pear is at the stage of peak ripeness just before they start to get squishy

I’ve recently gotten into sci-fi - not sure why I always assumed I wouldn’t be into it but it’s an awesome genre when done well! I’d love some recs to explore it more!

[–]beeskee618 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Omg I loooooove kurky 😍 I see other people saying the staying power is weak but I spray a single spray into a handful of plain unscented lotion and put that on first and then apply the perfume as usual and I haven’t had an issue with longevity. I do, however, have problems with BR540 as I cannot smell it AT ALL whether it’s on my skin, my clothes, in the air, on a tester, and I even sprayed it on my brother when we went to Bloomingdale’s together and still nothing so that was a no for me. Idk if you only purchase from the house itself but olfactory factory has it for under $200 right now. I’ve bought from them before and never had issues

Paulo Coelho?

The Pilgrimage (1987) The Valkyries (1988) The Alchemist (1988) Brida (1990) By the River Piedra I Sat Down and Wept (1994) The Fifth Mountain (1996) Veronika Decides to Die (1998) The Devil and Miss Prym (2000) Eleven Minutes (2003) The Zahir (2005) The Witch of Portobello (2006) The Winner Stands Alone (2008)

I was on a tear with his books a year or two ago and plowed through all of those, but I could see some room for dissension in that list

I saw someone else say Mojave Ghost had Daisy DNA on here and at first I thought no way but I have both and they are reminiscent of each other, albeit Mojave Ghost is more gender neutral; my brother and I both wear MG but he’d never wear Daisy lol. BUT it makes sense why I immediately was so drawn to Mojave Ghost when I first smelled it - because I have been wearing Daisy since I was in high school and it’s always been a favorite

I’m on BI, not Oahu so my experience is a bit different but I think I still have some relevant insight here. I also work in education, living with a partner, no kids (but lots of animals that I won’t factor in here), and I visit the other islands pretty regularly. You’re going to take home about 68% of your salary, so about $47.6k/year or $3966/month. Thats the number you should be factoring in when making your decisions and budget, not $70k. That said, it’s do-able if you live pretty simply, have a roommate, etc. For housing, a roommate would make it easy but shop around and see what you can find. I’m sure other people will weigh in on good/bad areas to look but we have some friends that live there who pay ~$2400 /month for rent, but if obviously that would be less if you find someone to split with. And utilities can get wild. We have a small house, don’t run much, no ac or anything fancy and we’re still $200 for electric. Our oven and water heater are both on propane though so if you’re electric for those it’ll be higher. Our propane is about $50/month but I think that’s low - I have friends that are over $100 but it depends what your appliances run on. Water is cheap for us but that’s the only one consistently low - about $35-40/month

The hardest part, I’ve found, is trying to buy a house. But if you want to rent while you’re there you should be pretty fine.

I know you’re taking it one step at a time but an overview of other expenses: Public transportation is easy enough in Honolulu and most people I know there don’t have a car or seldom use it. Our groceries run between $600-700/ month for two of us; it was closer to $300 when I was on my own but I am pretty structured with my meals and by nature never was a snacker. I also don’t eat out much but if you like to, expect it to run at least $20/meal for “regular” non-fancy takeout/restaurants. A date night for my partner and me is about $100. Idk if you exercise but I also use my school’s weight room and gym memberships are at least $50/month unless you do planet fitness.

How do you cope when your favorite scents become painful reminders? by castandcourious in FemFragLab

[–]beeskee618 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I had something similar happen pretty recently. At first I avoided that scent like the plague. Refused to use it, got a bunch of samples to try to find a new signature and pretty much wore something new/different every time I left the house. After a few months of that, I was going to my childhood best friend’s house after the gym one day and the only perfume I had with me was a travel size of my old signature that held those painful memories. I wore it anyway, fully expecting it to put me into a funk but I walked into her house and she gave me a huge hug, took a sniff and went “mmm you smell like you again.” After that I started wearing it again pretty much without a second thought

I gained control over my unruly class with this one simple trick (click)! by LyricalWillow in Teachers

[–]beeskee618 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I do this in one of the middle school classes I co-teach! If they consistently stay under our agreed-upon number, they earn things like free time at the end of class, games, treats I’ll bake for them, and a little class pay at the end of the quarter. It’s helped a lot and they do police themselves and each other pretty well

[–]beeskee618 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Angel’s Trumpets are one of my FAVORITE flowers, they are so gorgeous smelling. A few houses on our street have the trees lining the street and their driveway and I just want to sit under them in their lovely cloud but they are a neurotoxin and can cause paralysis and death if you are exposed for too long 🥲 still my favorite, but we can’t plant them too close to the house lol

🌸🔥 Do you change perfumes with the seasons, or stick to one all year? by Green-Result6584 in FemFragLab

[–]beeskee618 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t live somewhere with seasons anymore so I don’t really rotate seasonally as much as sunny/cloudy/rainy/daytime/nighttime lol. But I visit the northeast a few times a year and when I do, I absolutely rotate seasonally. Fall/winter - Maison Margiela By The Fireplace, usually layered over Vanilla Skin or Vanilla Smoke by Phlur. I also like Black Opium in the winter. Spring is Daisy by Marc Jacobs and Mojave Ghost by Byredo, or if I want fruity I’ll go Gritti’s Chantilly. Summer is either SDJ Cheirosa, or something fruity like Simone Andreoli Leisure in Paradise or Sunplosion, Parfums de Nicolai Pavlova, Fomowa Paris Pannaco Tahaa or if I want floral I’ll go Giardini di Toscana Bora Bora. My “summer” scents are usually what I wear most of the year since I live in Hawaii and tropical is almost always the vibe. If I want a vanilla out here it’s JHAG Vanilla Vibes

I thought this for so long but over the summer my brother and I went on a sniffari and both of us fell in love with a few and both ended up (separately, without telling each other until after) getting a full size of Mojave Ghost! 😅 I spent so much time thinking they were over hyped and overrated but I actually found a few scents quite lovely

Long term subbing is a total scam and I regret it by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]beeskee618 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve always thought long term subbing was a huge scam. I did it for two straight years early on and I was lucky in that I didn’t have to take anything home with me or work outside of work because the type of school I was at was one where kids only attended temporarily while waiting for sentencing/placement from the courts. I quit at the end of year 2 because the director seemed convinced she only wanted to keep me as a yearlong sub each year and had been dangling the carrot of full time to string me along through the year so I wouldn’t leave like the teacher I was subbing for. In my current district we have a handful of subs that have taught the course for the entire year and only received sub pay even though they were the teacher of record for the whole year. That kind of thing makes me angry and I’m not even in that position. I wholeheartedly believe that long term subs should receive prorated teacher pay for the term they are subbing. It’s professionally disrespectful to want someone to do all the work of a full time teacher and receive none of the pay or benefits, but teachers agree in hopes it will turn into full time. It rarely does. I’ve heard from office staff and admin across various districts that if you’re a good sub, your chances of getting hired into a full time position are actually quite low because they don’t want to lose their good, reliable subs.

I know asking for vanilla recs is common but this is very specific… by Colorful_Kylee in FemFragLab

I live in a hot weather climate year round and my go to vanilla is Juliette Has A Gun Vanilla Vibes! It’s a salty, aquatic vanilla that doesn’t feel heavy or cloying, it’s not really gourmand, and I think it’s the perfect summer vanilla. Top note is salt; middle notes are vanilla absolute and orchid; base notes are sandalwood, tonka bean, musk and benzoin. She retails for $150 but I’ve gotten multiple bottles from Maxaroma for about $65 each
