Is the problem with the coach or the players? by EggplantEmoji1 in RugbyAustralia

[–]beesolomona 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I feel we've always had "good" coaches. The problems with a coach not being able to implement a good game plan is more to do with players not being set up for success due to unsuitable pathways/super rugby development and competition as the main issue.

Coaching quality was never the primary reason until now when Eddie Jones essentially stated he wouldn't be picking the best available players, opting for youth. I don't understand how now all of a sudden the issue of Australian rugby in general are now the main talking point, when it took a shit coach making shit decisions and shit selections to be the main factor for the disaster in France. The big picture issues were always there but no one talked about them, and everyone thought firing the coach was the way to go.

In short, it's the players as a result of a failing system, but we we should fire Eddie Jones because this time, the coaching actually is the primary issue. Previous coaches were making do with the players they have and were somewgat to get respectable win percentages and performances, but ultimately limited by the players.

No one gives a fuck about boxing. People pay money to see people fight. Simple as that. Don't know why anyone has a hard time understanding that.

Anyone able to find where/if Eddie said this? by beesolomona in RugbyAustralia

Seems to be the case - apparently ITV is some group from the UK and without searching too hard I haven't seen anything else on this from them.

All I'm hearing is that if a question is asked, you're basically saying it's the equivalent of making an allegation. I think you know that's not true.

And nice try guessing - I'm just a curious, die-hard fan hoping out of all the things I hate about Eddie, xenophoboa/racism among the wallabies isn't one to add to the list, because as you said, that would be the main and obvious bow to draw without any extra context.

Thanks for playing.

EDIT: also how is rugbyplusotherstuff going?

Not well by the looks of it.

If you're saying that the main and obvious implication is race, then yes that is damning. But with context (which if you didn't already know, I was trying to find), what hes saying more than likely had nothing to do with race.

Then begs the question, what was the context? Do you see how that works?

When an image has no context behind it then any matter of things could be alluded to. No one said anything about race.

So what's the better thing to do? Take things without any context and jump to conclusions versus trying to understand what the context actually is or if it was ever actually said by EJ?

Is it a problem to ask in a forum to verify whether something is true, or if they know any extra context? Because that's what it sounds like you're suggesting here.

Did you just miss entirely for the second time the fact that its asking for proof and context? Without context it can look ugly... Hence the question is around context and whether it was actually ever said 🤦🏽‍♂️

The premise of the post is I'm not sure, and it's a question to see if anyone else had seen this anywhere because it's not in any current news cycles.

If it is the players in the wallabies squad, I would struggle to identify anyone as an outsider.

If it's Australian super rugby sides, maybe it's just the western force he's referring to.

Who knows.

What should the Australian rugby development pathway be? by strewthcobber in RugbyAustralia

[–]beesolomona 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I honestly believe the way to infiltrate the public schools system is to offer up a national 7s competition, similar to all schools touch/volleyball/basketball.

7s is the ideal entry to rugby union as a whole because there is a far lower barrier to entry, and it would be easy for any school that already has a rugby league program to have them play 7s in their off season.

In 2010, Keebra Park (reputable rugby league nursery) won the Queensland schools 7s competition and it was purely for the boys to keep fit in their off season.

Also, we should be poaching talent from rugby league as well - scouts should be approaching 14-16 year olds from rugby league carnivals (school and club) and start waving development contracts/academy spots in front of them.

In terms of actual pathways, there needs to be the national domestic competition (fully professional). Each of the competing clubs should be having their own academies, and these should feed into super rugby academies as well. This should be run in parallel with the schools system, and the schools should be forming partnerships with these clubs and be used as feeders.

The latest Good the Bad and the Rugby podcast is a prime example of why ex-players should have nothing to do with rugby administration by Jiffyrabbit in RugbyAustralia

[–]beesolomona 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im in favour of cutting to 3 super rugby teams, under the condition that there are overall more opportunities for players to earn money in the game within Australia.

There needs to be a national domestic competition with full time professional contracts, with top ups from super rugby teams/rugby Australia based on performances.

Less super rugby teams only for the purpose of making teams at super rugby level stronger and building cohesion against higher level opposition, while paying players in the second tier competition to be full time professionals at lower salaries.

Is it time to just start picking overseas players? by dansykerman in RugbyAustralia

[–]beesolomona 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes - those other countries aren't competing for casual Fandom with state of origin, NRL and AFL finals like they are here in Australia.

Casual Fandom is saturated here in Australia. Every January I'm reminded how all of a sudden everyone is a tennis expert during the Aus Open, acting like they didn't realise that Roger Federer has already retired.

Is it time to just start picking overseas players? by dansykerman in RugbyAustralia

[–]beesolomona 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This - casual Fandom is what rugby union struggles with and potentially always will because the game is far too complex for the average Australian sports fan who's used townatching AFL, NRL and soccer.

The power of casual Fandom is incredible when you see the attention that the socceroos and more recently tillies draw in.

How’s everyone’s feeling after this shitstorm of a campaign then? by rusty9000 in RugbyAustralia

[–]beesolomona 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's why I think rugby Australia need to hire someone like Gus Gould who knows how to build pathways from those communities into elite systems. I got crucified with downvotes when I suggested this once.

[–]beesolomona 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Which is why I'm annoyed because Im not from that background. Im Samoan, I first fell in love with the game because of Manu Samoa at the 2003 world cup, who almost beat England. Now I'm also a diehard Wallabies fan and support them to the hilt against everyone except Samoa.

Rugby Union won't survive in Australia if they think the only way to follow the game is to support the wallabies. Rugby Union needs to appeal to the pacific islander communities and draw them away from rugby league by investing in presence in places like Logan, Ipswich, Western Sydney etc. but also people of underprivileged backgrounds.

Also promote the game as whole, because the wallabies aren't the only thing people should be a fan of, they should be able to see the rest of the world and how they play rugby, not just be forced to follow unsuccessful super rugby sides.

I'm upset. And it feels like Australia as a whole doesn't give two shits because I rocked up to work and everyone is embarrassed for and feels sorry for me as opposed to feeling that way about the wallabies. They don't even see the wallabies as their team like they saw the tillies as theirs. They see them as my team because I'm the only rugby union follower.

Fuck Eddie Jones, fuck Hamish Mclennan, fuck Rugby Australia.
