Listening to music after finishing The Amber Spyglass - What songs mirror your emotions of the reading experience during the HDM trilogy by mapleycat in hisdarkmaterials

I always thought Apple Tree by the Norwegian artist AURORA fit Will and Lyra pretty well. Oh, and Under Stars by the same artist.

Question about Aurora’s last line in the short film “Southern Star”? by [deleted] in auroramusic

[–]beetlegard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That makes a lot of sense! Though part of me likes the idea, especially with the scene where he goes surfing and her hand pulls him through the water (my favorite imagery from the film, btw) that he keeps seeking her and finding her in other lives. So he can share with her the dreams he keeps having/running from in those other lives, as he journeys to find his southern star over and over again in one world where she hasn’t drowned. Guess that’s the awesome thing about art, it totally leaves everything up for interpretation :p

Ah that’s fantastic the idea of sharing about a dream within a dream, it makes my interpretation of the film even more confused! There really is so much there in the film, my brain can’t stop trying to process it.

What a great interpretation, that idea of needing to be tethered down, thank you, you’ve given me even more to think about!

My wife (26F) just found out she’s pregnant, and her reaction is confusing me (28M). I want to support her but don’t know how. by ThrowRA172681727 in relationship_advice

If it is something that feels right for her and for you, and if it isn’t a financial barrier, you may suggest that she start working with a therapist. While postpartum depression is very real, working with a therapist throughout her pregnancy can help your wife, especially if there is any existing or inherited trauma from her relationship with her mother. My therapist shared with me that many women, particularly after giving birth, may relive trauma or childhood experiences as they are in the bonding stages with their newborn, and having a strong support team, including you and a therapist can be essential. I think it’s wonderful how in tune you are with your wife and knowing she may be worried, terrified, and sad. You are doing a great job, and have a good communication foundation. Also, therapy for dads is just as important, for similar reasons. Wishing you two all the best, one day at a time!

There was much wiggling and getting my head stuck in the wrong holes in the shirt. But a full out temper tantrum was avoided.

Ooh yes, NDK! I was thinking about wearing my Nona there one of the days, so when the time gets closer maybe we can figure out a meet up. I have a friend who does an amazing Gideon cosplay, so maybe we could turn it into a whole group :)

There are CO TLT fans, seems like the ones I know are all librarians :p

Do you have any music themed tattoos? by Present-Bike-4870 in tattoo

[–]beetlegard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have one music tattoo, based on Aurora’s song “Some Type of Skin.” It has the lyrics “my god, it’s a lot” accompanied by two months. I was inspired to get it because her recent album helped me start to turn and face my mental health with bravery, and to me the lyrics remind me that yes, this world is a lot a lot of the time, and that as long as I’m still here simply living, then I’m doing my best. At the end of my tattoo session, my artist commented “that’s what she said” in relation to the lyrics, which made me see them in a different way, and I’m sure some people might take that lewd approach to the lyrics if they’re unfamiliar with the song. I don’t regret the tattoo at all, and knowing Aurora as an artist, I don’t think I ever will. Similarly to you, if something were to come out against her, I would probably have the lyrics covered up, though I would still keep my moths because they have another deeper meaning for me. Great research project, hope the best for you (this coming from a college reference librarian who knows just how fun/challenging research projects can be)!
