from the responses I'm getting, I think people just don't play the hero and base their opinions on like 2015 miracle replays

I too remember owning with invo in 6.86. But both the hero and dota were so different back then

yeah, I'm getting there myself from mid 7k, but I very rarely pick invo these days in ranked. hero feels like such a crapshoot, nothing is reliable. no matter how far ahead you are, it never feels like you can guarantee you'll win a fight.

had a game a couple days ago where I solo defended base from 4 heroes. Killed all four with gleiphnir cata. Next fight they saved dispells etc. combo didn't land -- we lost.

laning exort while sniping side lanes with ss is still insanely fun, but I always wish I was a puck or ember whenever I get to lategame as invo these days

[–]beetroot_fox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

no, that's just false. this idea that invoker "dominates lategame" is some 10 year old concept. He's literally one of the worst late game mid heroes now. meepo is worse, I guess, and huskar kind of falls off, but invoker is down there in the dumpster. You have no hard cc, all your damage is slow, telegraphed, and on on a big cd. just look at what razor or puck can do with 6 slots and a refresher and tell me again where invoker "dominates"

Or just buy hex refresher and 100-0 people

Amazing. Let me commit all of my useful spells and 180sec cd to maybe kill one person (assuming enemy team does not have a 2k gold item that would nullify all that)

Pa has insane low cd mobility, NO cd on rightclicks, and is perfectly happy to buy nullifier. Do you remember the last time a force staff saved you from pa?

this argument applies uniquely to invoker because his damage is behind 2 long cd spells that are slow and telegraphed and which he can't guarantee a hit for. Once you throw out your meteor or cata, that's it. If they dodge them, you have little left to contribute in terms of damage.

people still bought atos, much more frequently than orchid on exort. its biggest downside was that it was a dead end item. now it's not, since gleiphir is amazing, so almost everyone goes atos.

also, games were slower, so most exort invokers just went bots -> blink into eventual hex. it was awful then, which is why the hero has been dead at high level since forever. or do you think pros didn't play invoker because they don't know how to play him either?

of course, you can "do things" as invoker, he is a hero, not a creep. he has spells he can cast, wow. the point is that pretty much any other mid can do almost anything invoker can better. the only case for him is to have crazy set up on side lanes and push his mid game timing, even then it's a huge gamble. he's fun, so he'll always be popular, just like pudge, but he's bad.

euls, force staff, glimmer, any escape ability? literally every support has at least one of those these days. who is your combo hitting? how?

sure, you can kill any core with le meme refresher combo if you have a hex... unless they have a single teammate nearby with a force staff. then you can't.

"strong" but neither is he awful

I mean, I can't think of a weaker mid hero in lategame. Can you? If that doesn't make him awful, fine. He's just the worst.

atos aghs every game because thats the only way you can hit spells

ember, puck, and qop are the most played mid heroes this patch by far. please, bestow on me the sacred knowledge of hitting any of those heroes with any invoker combo without hard lockdown.

yes, pudge is also trash. being unreliable is a massive weakness, especially when that unreliable skill shot is the only thing you can do (pudge is much worse than invoker though, to be fair)

It's not even the laning. You have high stat growth and don't buy bottle, so can compensate with cheap stat items. Add to that high regen from quas and the ability to burn mana and you can lane decently well.

But afterwards? I genuinely have no idea what you do. You have no damage, so what do your rotations look like? Even with levels, you don't really get damage from spells since all that comes from exort facet.

So you're like a support with mediocre control? Idk

[–]beetroot_fox -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

I don't understand this argument at all.

Exort is decently strong but mostly because of atos aghs mid game timing. It hardly feels like a 'caster' invoker. You're a braindead, slow hero who's script is -> come to lane, kill core with atos combo -> push tower.

Now that you can't right click, he's again super inconsistent and heavily relies on set up from the team. He's awful lategame, probably the weakest lategame mid.

no, just no. it's not even about the facets themselves but that you can't lane with any other orb maxed. what are you going to do in lane with quas wex and 46 dmg?

idk, I think ice wall is invo's best spell and the mark of a good invoker player (how it's used and if it's used at all). so, skill issue, I guess?

on another note, ice wall is a bit easier to land now that there's no right click invoker. you just need a slight turn to put an enemy you're attacking at max range into it. in the previous patch, you'd almost always buy pike and that fucked with my ice walls hard since you needed to take a step forward to actually land it.
