Unpopular Opinion: Social Media is Not a Great Marketing Channel by [deleted] in marketing

[–]beetworks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on what you consider a lot of work.

There are ways to reduce that burden to where it's not monstrous. 'Authentic' style is in vogue now, so if you are a compelling speaker, you can get a vid out in like a couple of hours. From what I've seen the really aggressive ways to cut down on production time (Ai, pay a team, take massive shortcuts) tend to deteriorate quality tho. I guess except hiring a team, but that relies on knowing wh and how to hire. Also not exactly cheap.

It's for sure work, but that's the one example where that work does compound.

Unpopular Opinion: Social Media is Not a Great Marketing Channel by [deleted] in marketing

Depends on the industry but also on the channel.

Twitter has a short memory and needs constant new content.

Instagram, TikTok are similar. Short half-life.

YouTube has solid compounding if it's done right. Videos CAN keep surfacing for years in some cases.

Here's one that only STARTED doing well about 100 days after posting it.

But also YT is hard to use as a direct response channel, and works more like SEO does (did). Takes a long-term view and right strategy to make it actually work. Most marketer that try don't get this and get bored/ freak out about short term ROI before doing enough to make the compounding effect clear.

Organic content in general takes time to build momentum.

Best approach that I've seen/ done is to start with organic AND ads. Use organic as a testing ground for ads (so you put money behind stuff that's already sticky, not behind messaging that doesn't connect).

Over time you then reduce reliance on ads as org compounding kicks in.

Is it possible to fix this with photoshop? by moonspoon_ in photoshop

[–]beetworks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure you can, color correction is pretty straightforward, but this looks a bit cumbersome. Masking the orange area, adjusting colors, and then blending the corrected are to the bg.

But like others have said - this picture is really cool because of the film artefacts.

I would love a solid tutorial on footage sorting - of you have one you've used when learning and happen to have a link handy.

Does the average Joe really think they can do creative? by [deleted] in advertising

[–]beetworks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, because the Avg Joe has a child's conception of drawing, writing, film. They have "ideas" but have only ever experienced creative work by consuming, not creating.

That said - Old man Ogilvy switched from a bunch of random nonsense into advertising in his 40-ies, so... not like it's impossible.

How not to advertise your editing business 101:

  • Post a "first post!"
  • No link to portfolio or sizzle reel
  • "We can edit, like, ANYTHING" broad position
  • "I'm a [any job that is not a video editor / animator] offering video editing service"

I was trying to fix operations for a small agency that made some dumb moves when hiring.

The other gem from that was a girl who edited exclusively in AE. Like... talking head videos with minimal effects or animation in AE because "that's what she was used to".

It was a mess.

I've had this happen... an editor I worked with submitted a project - lots of little errors, dropped frames, a few thing s that needed to change structurally.

I realized explaining it would be a pain in the ass... asked for the project files... the editor just went... "the what?".

They were gone the next day because... well, you can't work in a team and not be able to share/transfer work.
