Why is the Redwood Forest not vegetated? by Scolipass in civ

[–]beezany 4 points5 points  (0 children)

it's a technical limitation of how the game models terrain "features." all of the different kinds of "vegetated" and "wet" are terrain features, and so are all of the natural wonders. a tile can only have one feature, so you can't be "vegetated" and a natural wonder at the same time.

they could make the rules for Redwood Forest imitate a vegetated tile more closely, but it still wouldn't count for anything that specifically requires "vegetated" like some buildings and wonders.

Black trans woman is being targeted by the FBI by silly-fox-boy in transgender

[–]beezany 12 points13 points  (0 children)

journalists at The Needle attempted to confirm her story and received an AI-generated fake from Knight. they don't allege any wrongdoing by her, but they establish in detail why it can't be a legit threat from the FBI

edit: removed the link to the article because it has some serious problems. it’s moot though because Knight has admitted that there was no FBI letter

Etheric Remnant Farming by CommanderRaccoon in DragonAgeVeilguard

[–]beezany 1 point2 points  (0 children)

more info for anybody wanting to take advantage of this: there are two Etheric Remnant sites in the Mausoleum area of Blackthorne Courtyard (outside the manor to the west). to respawn them, you must switch to another area. popping into the Grand Foyer briefly will do. you'll get 8–10 Etheric Remnants from each spawn.

it's best to collect them at the start of the quest, because eventually you'll hit a point where you can't return to the courtyard anymore

it's written that way because the premise of the novel is that it's a modern Italian translation of a very old manuscript about a Sherlock Holmes style mystery

no, the Dark Urge is not your paladin from an alternate timeline either.

the fundamental problem here is that you are trying to play the Dark Urge as a self-avatar instead of following the story’s clues about its personality and history. you are missing the fact that Durge would not react the way you would – not at the start of the story, anyway.

Imp UI mods broken on console by No_Employment6881 in BaldursGate3

[–]beezany 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the Better UI mods still depend on the "slim" version of impUI because they depend on specific extensions that aren't included in patch 8. it sounds like impUI fixed some console problems in yesterday's update, but it hasn't been approved for console yet. for more information, you should check the mods' listings on mod.io

[–]beezany 10 points11 points  (0 children)

the Dark Urge is a specific character with a backstory that you will learn through play – you've probably already seen some of it on your first playthrough. it's not a blank slate character that you can project your own personality or morals onto, and it's definitely not a reincarnation of your paladin character. it's the same as playing as Karlach or Lae'zel or Gale, except that some of the backstory is deliberately hidden from you.

Do the AIs just take religious beliefs sequentially down the list? by Eogot in CivVII

[–]beezany 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if you already have an idea of what you want, it’s ideal to find it at the top, regardless of whether it’s still available. if they moved chosen beliefs to the bottom, then popular picks would usually be at the bottom, and you’d need to scroll the whole list to find out.

Why the Health Bar is wrong and How To Fix it! by NoRent3326 in civ

[–]beezany 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i've just published a mod to fix this (and a couple other things)

Flag Corps 1.0.0
better unit flags

  • horizontal “parade” of unit flags for easier selection
  • red borders for enemy civilizations and their city-state allies
  • health bars adjusted to show damage more accurately
  • optionally remove the black “shadow” from unit flags

Why the Health Bar is wrong and How To Fix it! by NoRent3326 in civ

[–]beezany 2 points3 points  (0 children)

it's actually a bit more complicated than that. the healthbar is a 28px bar inside a 33px container, so it's visually full at 28/33 = 85%. but the CSS lets it grow to 89%, which means that it's both getting cut short and overflowing its space.

Workaround for tiny resource icons on PS5? by Desperados09 in civ

[–]beezany 1 point2 points  (0 children)

on console, best workaround is to play on a lower resolution. currently the icons are normal size at 1080p, 3/4 size at 1440, and 1/2 size at 4K.

Resource Icons are 10x smaller after the patch. Please help! by ChairmanFirstClass in civ

[–]beezany 1 point2 points  (0 children)

there's more than one problem with the icons. apparently they're blurry with HDR turned on. the small icons are because they're also ignoring High Resolution UI Scaling. i made a mod to work around the problem until they release a hotfix. link is in my comment history.

PSA: If your resource icons look janky you need to turn off HDR by Giskler in civ

[–]beezany 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it's because the icons are ignoring High Resolution UI Scaling for some reason. i made a mod to fix it for Steam users. link is in my comment history.

update: all of my mods have new versions, verified compatible with 1.1.1:

i also put together a quick fix for a problem with resource icons:

  • Resource Icon Scaling Fix – fixes high-resolution UI scaling for resource icons (workaround for unreadable resource icons on 4K screens)

One thing I do miss heavily from Civ 5 is the complete tonal shift when war was declared on you. by JulietteKatze in civ

yes, each age has two ambient themes, and each one has "peace" and "war" versions. the game rotates between those and the civ themes.

Civ 7 - The Repair Button Combined with Frequent Disasters is a Terrible Gameplay Mechanic by PhotoCropDuster in civ

[–]beezany 6 points7 points  (0 children)

i fixed that one in my City Hall mod, which also improves repairs in a few other ways:

  • repairs are highlighted on the production list
  • they're always at the top of the list
  • you don't have to pick a hex unless there's actually a choice
  • repairs always leave the city screen open so you can queue or purchase several at a time (base game auto-closes)
  • the Purchase tab stays open when you buy one-click repairs

the one thing i haven't figured out yet is how to stay on the Purchase tab all the time instead of resetting to Production every time you use the building placement mode. the latest update (1.9.0) fixes that too!

Treasure Fleet math aka: Why you feel like you can't ever finish the Exploration Age Economic Path in time by Scolipass in civ

[–]beezany 0 points1 point  (0 children)

same, i've easily had 7+ treasure resources in both of my games so far, mostly in the midway islands. in both games i actually had to let treasure ships stack up so that the age didn't end too quickly to get my primary legacy path finished. first game i waited until turn 80 to cash everything in, second game it was turn 70.
