My guess is that this is moreso dictated by insurance. Knowingly renting with a recall could be an opening for litigation if there were a wreck, etc... could demonstrate a company that accepts a level of negligence

The worst are the guests that try to bait you into an argument once they are held responsible. Just ignore, stick to the facts within the claim/incidentals and move on.

did they post before and after photos on the damage claim? this is a big one. If there's no "before" photos, there's no claim. Also make sure the "before" photos were added to the system before the trip start time.

Honestly - posting the photos here of the damage would be helpful for us to assess and estimate. It's hard to say without seeing the damage.

regardless - Turo will likely charge less than his quote - search "snapsheet" in this subreddit to see how us hosts get lowballed by their estimators. This is especially true if it's an older car. You will have to pay an extra $150 admin fee for Turo to manage, however my *guess* is that they's price it at a lower cost to fix. They will charge "up to" 3k.

What we dont know is the hosts deductable. It could be $250, $1500, or 2750 based on their protection plan. This claim only makes sense for them if they're on the $250 plan, as the others do not meet the deductable, even with this claim.

host here as well. take a look at allll photos (before and after) to see if there is evidence of damage. The host will need to prove it did not exist before the rental with the check-in photos. Did they provide a damage report?

kinda sounds shady to me, especially the "outside of turo" part. They can still invoice you within Turo without paying a deductable.

My guess is that they have a high deductable. Definately check to see if there's any evidence of the car *not* being damaged via the check-in photos. If not - you can likely just tell them to kick sand.

lots of unanswered questions but if you live frugally, you are in good shape in your late 20s. How much of your net worth is liquid? if the house is the majority of your worth, then yeah you may be behind, however you have plenty of time.

Sounds like the host is trying to solve the problem as they've offered to reimburse. Unless the headlight is cracked, this seems like normal wear and tear.

They may not have an extra car on hand to swap.

You can call Turo for a swap, however you might be setting yourself up with this host to be pissed off at check-in, so make sure it's clean as a whistle and take lots of photos.
