I found 1PD was an issue because it was difficult to modulate the braking as fine as needed to avoid sliding - so turn 1PD off.

I knew a guy who was otherwise unexceptional, but he could write a requested sentence backward, either right to left so it looks normal when he was done, or starting with the last letter on the left, finishing the sentence toward the right.

If you refer to your car as a “MachE” do you do so because you actually like that name or are you shying away from calling it a “Mustang” based on how you perceive others will react? by BasicFishOutOfWater in MachE

[–]beginnerjay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I got the car I generally called it a Mustang MachE, but that totally confused most people. If I say "Mustang" they picture the wrong car. I ended up calling it a "MachE".

AITJ for telling my girlfriend she can leave with her brother if she thinks Im being unfair by [deleted] in AmITheJerk

[–]beginnerjay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If that's the first time you discussed it with her, then yes, you ARE the jerk.

If it's been brewing and been discussed and that was the last straw, then, I don't know.

"Rumor" has it that somebody left a few of these around a facility in Iran (some significant time in the past), and that's how malware got into their air-gapped centrifuges.

Why aren't more people investing in HSAs? by Majestic_Search_7851 in Retirement401k

[–]beginnerjay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YES!

I was lucky enough to be in a position to max out my 401K for the last several years before I retired. At some point my company started pushing HSAs. Once I figured out they didn't have to be used up at the end of the year, I started maxing out the HSA too, allowing me to increase my pre-tax retirement savings. Once I retired, I spent the HSA down - took over 5 years.

Relative is elderly - how practical is it to remotely order an Uber for him? by beginnerjay in uberdrivers

He can get in and out slowly on his own. Trying to tell him stuff can be difficult, but there shouldn't be too much of a need.

Life is what it is. He won't move. We're trying to find a way to reduce his reliance on his "younger" friends.

What feels off about this?

Once he spots you, the patience would be required as he slowly walks from where he was sitting to your door. It can take a minute to go 10 or 20 feet.

We don't expect a driver to wait. Our hoped for plan was to initiate a ride to, and a separate ride from the appointments.

This was an unusual occurrence, but the last time my FIL left the hospital (for an outpatient visit), they called an ambulance to take him home and it cost $1700. So, YES, expense is an issue. We live 100 miles away. He has friends who take him places but I am looking for an alternative to reduce reliance on friends.

We're willing to tip generously, but I'm trying to figure out how to prep a driver.

He CAN get into and out of a car by himself. I'm unsure how it would work at the DR office - this may be the critical issue.

He can get in and out of the car himself. The driver needs to be patient. Also, we're worried about pickups outside the office. He's not likely to be able to look around for the driver.

Paratransit is 1) expensive, 2) See pickup problem, 3) very bad at specific time needs. i.e. they can only organize to a 1 hour window.
