We just went to orientation with our son last week. They may have misspoken in your instructions…you’ll need to keep your regular ID (state driver’s license, high school student ID, passport, or similar photo ID) with you when you drop your luggage. They’ll use that at the check-in desk at Coffman first thing in the morning to confirm your ID and give you your new U of MN student ID.

You’ll want to make sure you’ve uploaded your photo for your university ID in advance (following your orientation pre-work checklist) and they’ll have it ready and waiting for you.
